well that is becuase american muscle heads go by this mentality

"hey this is known to work so why do anything new"

nascar motors have had the same technology for the past 25 years,

GT/LeManns racing, hell even karting technology changes every year..

Seems crazy doesn't it. Carbs / dizzy just drives so poorley compared to a mapped system, especially with big cams.

It's standard stroke, 98mm bore. Bespoke slipper pistons to give ~12.5:1 CR, bespoke rods. Some work on crank but not entirey sure what at the moment. ARP studs and bolts everywhere.Bespoke copper head gaskets.Heads ported, valves back-cut. Cams 30/70 70/30 grind @ 50 thou.Exhaust manifolds 4-1 with 41mm ID 950 - 1050mm long primaries. Exhaust bypass valve so mufflers bypassed for tuned length open pipe when desired.Modified susuki hayabusa throttle bodies with bosch type 3 440cc injectors, 48mm runners with jenvey trumpets. Custom intake manifold.Dry sumped using pace 7 tooth 3 stage gear pump and pace tank. All plumbing is goodrich 200 and blue/red fittings.Custom ali crank pulley.Electric water and PAS pumps.

Think that's about it really.

.

No pulleys, they're direct electric drive, PAS is a Mk2 MR2 pump, water is a davies craig EWP.The standard baffle has been modified and had scrapers added to the back.

susuki hayabusa throttle bodies, are they slide throttles or butterfly type?? Slide throttle would be nice, i think there is a place in the UK that sell a nice set. Luminition is the brand.Attached is a slide throttle i got from somewhere

From the graph, it seems the slide throttle would not be as good for the street. It apears to be slightly superior only at WOT.

I would think BMW, Ferrari, MB and others would use this set-up if it were truely advantageous. But, I am no expert on induction flow. Maybe Dennis will comment?

Those roller bodies are very expensive and they don't do singles last time I looked so you'd have bent manifolds up to the bodies which would increase the length past what I have available to get everything under the bonnet! The busa ones are just butterfly. In the past I've found on some engines you can alter the max throttle position to give more power. Full open is sometimes less then just off, guess it's to do with changing the direction of the air stream to give better mixing / swirl or something.

Its looking very good John.

How much hassle has the dry sump setup been? And how much did the pulley set you back?

I am looking at getting a pulley made up just for alternator ... and if it comes with the option to drive an external oil pump then great!!

To be honest, it's been a lot of hassle but part of that is just because it's a learning experience. The pulleys are custom, and the alternator drive is to suit the 300ZX alternator (1 vee narrower than Q45 one) they have all the timing marks etc on them. Will post pics when I get them. Not sure on price yet.The pump is made by pace who pretty much make every oil pump on every competition car in the UK (www.paceproducts.co.uk) mine is the gear type, Leigh's is BG. Positioning of pump is awkward on 300ZX because the ARB is in the way. Oil feed to engine should be OK but nissan use M18x1.75 thread on the blanking plugs so no off the shelf converters to -12 available.Tank mounting again a problem as it needs to go in the boot (9.5" dia x 14" high).Sump pan is tricky as there is so little room between the end of the bearing support and the fixing holes. Also on the 300, the cross member is right in the way for a long trough as you can see from the pictures.

Just a matter of preference really. To me turbo lag kills the Z as a sports car.

There will be some power gain from running it but not something I can directly measure as I won't be running the engine on a wet sump to give a comparison. Will show up some more pics once there's more done. At the minute the ones on this thread are the only ones I have. Was hoping to get some work done on it this weekend, but don't think that's going to happen now

I'm glad i finally found someone who's doing the vh45 in the z32 that still actively posts on boards, i've been looking into this project for a while and have been having a terrible time finding information on this.

i'm looking at starting the vh45 swap into my z32 2+2 in about 3 years time, currently finishing up college and pulling funds together.

I would love to know more about what i'm getting myself into though, how much custom fab is needed, time spent, costs, tuning options, where to find performance parts for the vh45, and a walk through of the process.

I can't wait to see your Z finished as it is my dream car as well to have a built NA Vh45 powered Z32

did you happen to check whether the stock power steering pump, alternator and A/C would fit?
