For lack of a better name for the thread... anyway.

Original info pertaining to this topic can be found here: zerothread/257353

I talked to the Nissan dealer and they couldn't fix it. They stopped at the ignitor (which they called the "power transistor") because they couldn't locate a new one. No big surprise there. I brought the 2 extra I had and tried them myself with no luck.

I called around to over a dozen shops within 50 miles of me, and finally found one willing to help. They said they can guarantee they will make it work, but they also said they don't see the need for me to bring the car there and instead told me what to test on my own. WOW! A shop giving out free advice instead of testing it and charging me for it??

So anyway, he said he is almost positive there is a problem with my CAS. Even if it is sorta working, sorta isn't good enough. So I called the dealer back and asked them to test the waveform on the CAS. They said they'll check it tomorrow. I'll post the results when I have them. Hope we fail with flying colors!

The Nissan dealer says they no longer have the equipment to test the waveform of the CAS. Should I have the cat towed to a shop that can test this, or should I just buy a new CAS? There is a guy with 500 of them brand new on ebay for $140 shipped.

Buy the CAS, if anything you can always sell it. $140 is cheap. I'm debating on getting one from that canadian guy for the hell of it too.

I finally came up with the money and bought the CAS from the Canadian guy on ebay for $140 shipped.

I have a simple question about this. Is it a simple "plug and play"? (Unbolt, pull out the old, put in the new, bolt it up, and go?)

you have to pull the valve cover to line up the gear on the cas with the gear on the cam pulley, I think there is a writeup about it here somwhere in the articles page.

Hey man, I finally got my car started, I couldn't determine what the real cause of my problem was, but I checked all my cables, soldered and shrink wrapped everything following the http://www.frsport.com wiring guide, take your time. So after doing all that I tested my CAS. What I did was pulled the valve cover off, set the car to TDC, took the CAS out, took the fuel rail out (with injectors pluged into it) and got a spark plug into a coil and ground it. With the ignition key in the ON position turn your CAS by hand. While turning your CAS your injectors should and must spray gas, make sure you point the injectors to a safe direction. So that passed my test. This ment that my CAS, Ignitor, ECU and coils are good. So I was like why the hell didn't the car start, and I followed the FSM to set timming and all it took me was 15minutes to do this, first turn of the key and . This was at like 11pm with no exhaust, my neighbor yelled and just said, finally. If you need any help send me a PM and I'll tell you more about all the crap I went through. Good luck.

Also make sure you don't have your spark plug near the fuel line with the injectors out, you might get something burned, do it one at time for safety.EDIT: Here is the link to set your timing http://www.frsport.com/How_To_....html

Thanks for the links dr.kidd22!

I got my new CAS yesterday, but the Nissan dealer won't let me install it on their lot and I am not willing to pay them to install it for me. I am gonna push the car out onto the road next to their lot and do it. The only thing is, they won't let me take the car off the lot until I pay them the $300 I owe for the testing they did. IMHO, the tests they ran were worth the money because it'll save me a lot of trouble-shooting steps. We have narrowed it down to the CAS. Now, I just need to come up with the $300 to get the car off their lot. That'll prolly happen on Monday.

So, Monday I will be installing the new CAS and, with even a trace of luck, I'll drive her home! Check back Monday some time for more!

New CAS did not fix the car. Still won't start. I have a friend with more experience and more equipment that the Nissan Dealer and I finally got in touch with him after not talking for a few years. (Nothing bad, we just lost touch for a while). Turns out, he lives in the same small town as me! So he went out and got my car (he works for a local Chrysler Dealer and his bro has his own flatbed truck). So, I had him get my car and bring it home with him. He is currently finishing up on my sister's mini van, then he'll be starting to test all of my engine wires with a lab-scope (did I spell that one right?) I gave him all of my current wiring diagrams and FSM's and he said they look good, so I assume he knows how to read them (that's one up on me :P ).

Unfortunately, someone stole the key from my car recently. Luckily, the remote for the security system wasn't attached, so they didn't make off with that. Matt (my friend with the lab-scope) had the car still up on the truck bed when that happened and he said it was his fault for leaving the key in there and that he would pay for a new ignition cylinder.

I'll post when I know more.
