Well it started out having an rb20det that was in terrible shape after 2 years in the car and alots of abuse. It almost died last time on the track and needs a desperate overhaul. I got a s13 silvia front clip from japan to completly do over my whole 180sx s13. Stripped the engine bay and inside and have been working daily to get her back up. Tell me what you guys think.

Front cut comming home

now my car

Well with the swap we also got a whole rear subframe assembly with a vlsd and upgrade S14 brakes for my s13 and also a whole new front subframe for the sr20det to mount. We changed both of those along with the proper drive shaft since all those parts from the rb swap were much different and couldn't be used without some difficulty. Also wear and tear on them were starting to show. The engine came modded from japan with goodies like nismo flywheel and clutch and aftermarket ecu with 2 roms programmed by KS ROM in japan.

The engine is running and we are currently experiencing overhetaing problems that could possibly be a blockage since thermstat was tested fine and temp sensor has been replaced incase with no luck. Serious problems bleeding the system but she runs great besides the heating problem. We took out the windshield today and took it for a test run in the neighbour hood to see if air flow was the problem. Looks wierd with no bumper, hood or windshield but i had a blast. I got a 7 meg quicktime vid if anyone knows how i may host it for you all. Any comments are welcomed.

good stuff man, i like how you did the engine bay in red.

good luck with the SR.I would check out the condition of your water pump and make sure there is no blockage in the radiator or thermostat.

The engine bay will be red, the car will most likely stay white and i am painting the roof all black since i got dark tint and the car has so much glass around hte top end it would look good with the roof all black also. The waterpump seems to work and there seems to be a blockage within the engines water passages. I dont think any hot water is getting to the thermostat. We flushed water through the heatercore after we realised that it wasnt getting any at all even with the valves open and water went through it then into the block and out the heater hose and brought bees out with this.I suggest something is making a nest in my engine whilst it was sitting on my grage floor.

Yes the wing is too big, so he sold it. The thing was so heavy that the trunk would not stay open as the gas lifts could not take the wait.

If it gets replaced it will be with a smaller carbon one.

lol yep proper drift look jdm carbon wing. They havent cancelled my race bread membership yet. Most of them know i was moving to an SR since my RB was on its dieing days. But most people are tyring to get me to rebuild my rb and get it back up. I don't think anyone's car has gone from a ca18det from factory to an rb20det then now to an sr20det....

Are those progressive steps or is it a step backwards after rb20det? After driving this thing i feel it is deffinantly a step forward 2 litre vs 2 litre the sr is alot better. More power and torque stock for stock, it feels great.

I was so lost when I first seen this thread lol I was like hmm SR20 swap, keep reading, scroll down, see your car, then I see an engine bay with a dirty RB20 and that just had me lost and I stared at it for awhile confused, then scrolled back up and noticed your car was RHD, then went back down like eh maybe its a CA, then I realized quickly it wasn't.. Why'd you swap out the RB for an SR?

The RB was swapped out because the original swap was a piece of crap. It was Frankencar with virtually nothing fitting or working right.

The headlights were one beam only, having no high or low just both filaments on together. No windshield washer, no air conditioning, no radio or place to put it, just a hole. No working speedometer etc, etc...

The engine was working but smoked like a hobo with free cigarettes, it detonated badly at times and would swallow plugs. In other words the air fuel ratio was not tuned properly.

The turbo has been cut and welded to fit the manifold and down pipe, a real barbaric job at best.

Anyway the oportunity came to buy a complete S13 front clip so we jumped at the oportunity to get everything working properly on the car again, and this is where we are now. We still have some electrical work to complete to get the headlights connected, the front clip wiring harness still has to be connected to the rear section of the original wiring harness.

The hard work has been done, the rest should be easy in comparison.

So far the engine runs really well and feels strong, also the car is lighter and handles better than it was with the RB. It is our opinion that the RB swap was so poorly done that it did not do justice to the RB. Its a lovely engine but a six cylinder 2 liter is really unnecessary when the SR is such a strong engine in the same capacity.

Agreed, to experience the trouble and effort needed to put a 6 cylinder in that is only 2 litres is a waste of time. The SR is alot lighter and more powerful torque and HP wise stock for stock. If going to an RB then do rb25 or rb26 then you will be happy with it. The handling with the lighter engine is superb compared to it before with the dead weight of that cast iron block. The engine is alot more responsive than the rb20 and the swap is alot cleaner than before. who knows what we might do later on with the rb20. I am just happy with how it has all gone so far.

Everything looks good. Almost similar to what i was gonna do. I was wondering would you happen to have leftovers from the front clip. Like the firewall and dash. Let me know cheers and keep up the good work
