I finally got my Megasquirt ECU to hold an idle. This was one of the best feelings... EVER(and no im not a virgin ). This things been kind of a head-ache(a faulty ground was making my timing go all over the place when i had my injector's plugged in, after i fixed that it held timing great), but i have a feeling im going to really like the stand alone system.

Megasquirt itself is a cakewalk to install with the relay board. Granted you dont need the relay board at all, you can use your old relay's and fuse box with MS and you can save about 70 bucks. I however wanted a fresh start so i went with the relay board and butchered my stock harness. I am running the stock ecu as a piggyback to control my IAC, as well as my FCID valve because my AC blows to cold to get rid of. While MS is supposed to be able to handle these, no research has been done on how to do it so i went the easy route. Also, i switched to an external coil, which means im running a s13 distributor on my s14. I kind of went with the flow with everything, i was trying to do everything as simply as possible.

This is the link to the page that spurred my project ----> zerothread?id=221623 I got everything from DIYAutotune. Matt Cramer over there is one heck of a nice guy, he pretty much runs their customer support. I have never in my life dealt with a company that has anywhere near the kind of support that guy gave me through this project. Im sorry if it seems like im advertising for their company but i still cant get over how helpful those guys were. If any of you chose to go the MS route, DIY autotune is the place to do it.

My setup is nothing special, baring the MS. -S14 120,000 Miles in great shape, compression and all(ebay) - 5000.00 -Megasquirt 2 completed ECU - 410.00 -MS completed Relay Board - 88.00 -MS Relay cable - 70.00 -GM Open element IAT sensor + Bung - 30.00 -S13 dizzy(Nico) - 35.00 Shipped -s13 Dizzy pigtail(Nico) - 20.00 Shipped -MSD Blaster coil(ebay) - 30.00 Shipped -Ebay special Wires + Iridium plugs - 40.00 Shipped(cant pass that up!) -XS Power 50 trim t3/t4oe Turbo - 300.00(ill upgrade when i get the cash..) -Boost Designs Manifold and DP(NICO) - 450.00 Shipped(had to modify the DP because apparently there are a few different types of 5 bolt T3 flanges) -DIY Oil feed line, Works Great ---> zerothread?id=96306 - 60 or so bucks shipped -DIY Custom Hydraulic Oil return line(local hydraulic shop) - 30.00 -Oil feed, oil return flange ---> http://www.roadraceengineering...s.htm- 35.00 -Tial 38mm Wastegate (NIB, Nico) - 130.00 -SARD R2D2 Bov(Ebay) - 135.00 -Cometic Uncoated HG (Nico) - 90.00 -ARP Head Studs(AMS) - 130ish? - Used Sard 550 CC Injectors(ebay) - 220.00 Thats all i can think of for now, im sure i left out some things and as i remember them ill toss them up on my list.

This is just the first post, more to come as i get my IC cooler piping all tiged up and my turbo actually connected. Ill be putting up a bunch of pics here soon too, just wanted to get the word out that MS will actually run your car ^^. Btw, you guys have helped me so much, Nico owns!

Sweeet. Are you using wideband feedback? If I wind up getting one I plan to use it that way. It should self tune so they say. Keep us updated on your progress.

Yea i will be using a Zeitronix WB controller for my car. Already had one on my SR just took it out of there and am installing it tomorrow. The A/F map is pretty cool to setup, and i can only imagine that it makes tuning a snap. I mean if your going to run MS i cant see you not using WBO2. MS has such awesome WB support. For those of you who dont know, you set a target air fuel ratio on a 12x12 map RPM vs MAP. Megasquirt will change your VE(fuel) tables based on your WB readings and that map. I cant wait to see it in action.

More to come.....

Looks like it's coming along nicely!! Never really researched the Megasquirt...it "self-tunes" based on AFR??Looks like I got some reading to do!

Does anyone know if the 12X12 maps are a limitation of the hardware or something?

I agree, MS has been a handfull and thats an understatement. Ill ask Matt if its a hardware thing or what, becuase now that im into it i wish i had a bigger map, like 16x16 or somthing.

Im still having a few issues im dealing with at the moment. Arrg but this girls poped into my life and my time is just flying out the window. This weekend ill get back on the horse and get some things done, more to come guys.

I'll be interested to see how your timing turns out. I'm not sure how the SOHC & DOHC distributors compare, I know there are settings that have to match your dizzy. And ECUs have a built in compensation that has to do or takes into account the relative position of the rotar and what not. I remember reading that the dizzy must be mechanicaly set to max advance and then the ECU retards timing accordingly because obviously it can't modify a signal that hasn't occured yet. Anyway, I guess this neeeds to be figured out. I don't know if this makes any sense.

Anyway, if 16X16 is possible I have a friend who might be willing to modify the code for us.

Anyway, regadless of whether you decide to work on the car or the girl, happy squirting.

Makes perfect sense actually. My distributor is rotated all the way as far advanced as it will allow. Also, for now, my MS timing maps are 20* across the board. That gives me rock steady timing right where it should be.

I still need to set the CAS, or the 'Trigger Offset' value in MS correctly. I have it set at 74 degrees at the moment, but its possible it still needs to be adjusted. MS has a built in program to help you find this value called the 'Trigger offset wizard', and i have yet to use it to get it perfect. However, i think you need to be close, and 74 degrees will start and run your car.

That would be freaken awesome if you could mod MS to accept a bigger map. Im not to good with code so it would be beyond me, but if you could get that working it would be sick.

Btw, ROTFLMAO

Yah, I'm not quite getting the whole trigger thing just yet - plus I have the E motor so it might be even different. Have you looked at many threads on other forums? There are a few out there.

As far as modding the maps; I just happen to be friends with a guy who is a big time software engineer for the auto industry. If it can be done, he can do it with half his brain tied behind his back.

I'd like to see control for nitrous and a launch limiter as well. We will see. I just might be able to get a decent rom tune going yet.

Theres a good 40+ post thread on KA-T, has a bunch of information on the Trigger Offset.

I cant see how the Trigger Offset would be different on a E motor, the CAS's would be similar if not identical.

Talked to Matt today and he actually said the MS2 team is working on a 16x16 map as we speak. Kinda cool really, with a boosted engine those extra bins can really be utilized.

As a side note, i forgot how great my 240 looks with wheels on it ^^(its been a while). Had it moving today, this weekend i should start fabing the IC piping.
