well i started by finding a motor and 300zx trans on craigslist for 500$ and picked that up, was just planing on changing guides and calling it a day but as soon as i pulled the valve covers off, i knew that wasn't gonna happen. the motor was super nasty with sludge that was damn near rock hard like a crust. so i ripped it all apart and sent it down the the machine shop, for a hone, deck, cleaning and valve job.

i have no before pictures but the machine shop guy said it was the nastyiest motor head ever seen lol

currently i'm waiting on my bearings to show up so i can begin assembly

Post some more pics. What are your specs of the build? My bro and I are doing vh swaps as well, I've been tossing up either going procharger or single turbo with my vert, starting to lean towards single turbo again.

i also painted my oil pan with spray on truck bed liner

Looks like it's going to be a quality build! Where did you get your timing kit from? I'm in the market now. :)

I'm assuming the SR20 PS pump with VH bracket clears the frame rail. I'd like to see a pic once the engine's mounted. Sound like a good solution.

picked up my heads today. and they look very good!

The machine shop had some difficulty removing 3 of the HLA's and had to do this to get them out of the head.

Image

so i had some sr20det HLA's laying around and noticed they were very similar except for the grove and the top portions

Image
vh on left sr20 on the right

Image
vh45de on the left sr20det on the right

so i pulled the extra sr20det hla's apart to see if the 3 vh45 hla tops would fit into the sr20 hla lower
Image

sr20 on left vh45 on right, notice the slight height difference and the profile of the ball on the top is a little bit different too.

You're doing an awesome job on this engine. Everything is clean! Too bad it won't stay that way for long.

While you have the front timing cover and oil pump off, is there any way you could remind me how the oil passages work? Even some pictures would be great. I'm trying to remove the factory oil pump but feed the factory oil galleys. From what I can remember and looking at FSM diagrams, it looks like the oil gets sucked up by the oil pump, out into the oil tree (which port is in/out (left or right?)), BACK through the pump, and into the main galleys for the block. How does oil get from the oil filter to the galleys? Does the OEM pump have to be there? It's been so long since I put mine together I'd really appreciate some help if you have a few minutes.

Looks smooth! The motor is very pretty. Kinda whatyou'd want to see when you pop the hood.

well project has kinda been on hold due to winter and having nowhere to work on it but i've been saving up some money and planing out some stuff. got my oil cooler in the other day its got 12an fittings and is tube and fine design plus its nice and big. so i shouldnt have any oil temp issues. heres a couple pics for now and hopefully i can get my injectors ordered in a week or 2 and do a test fire on the motor.

little inspiration for ya glenn....This guy has a build on ka-t.org, he plans on taking it up to 8,500rpm so he has a useful power band. I believe he's only on 15psi on this run
