Well, after a somewhat long wait, to me at least, I am done with the RB26 swap into my S14.

The motor came from a 1994 Skyline GT-R, so it DID have the good oil pump drive collar on the crankshaft.

The swap took me about a total 2 months to do, working on it after work and on the weekends. It sat at my friends house for about 3 weeks while I waited on him to have the time to work on the downpipe and intercooler piping.

All in all, I am VERY happy with the end result. Even though I am missing the engine bay fuse box cover, it is a very clean install and the engine bay isn't too cluttered with stuff. I am still gonna clean it up more to make it that much more easy on the eyes. So, without further ado, here are the pictures.

That's it? No driving impressions, no details?

How do you like the mckinney kit? How does the engine sound?

Looks real clean. I polished my stuff too (see avatar)..

Ok, driving impressions:

Well, being that the suspension is COMPLETELY stock, the car still handles very well to the added weight in the front. Actually, I haven't noticed a change in handling since it had the KA in it. But then again, it still is stock in that nature.

The car is just plain fast. Not only is it quick, it is very smooth. There is NO jerkiness in power, it is just plain in simple, smooth all the way to redline. Haven't really tested it out at the track yet, or even the drag strip. I want to get at least 500 miles on the clutch/engine before that.

The McKinney kit was pretty impressive. It was simple to use, fool proof, and does its job. Is it worth the $500+? Personally, yes because that part of the install was hassle free, compared to other people making their own and having problems. Also, the driveshaft was one peice of work. I haven't seen a better looking driveshaft to this day. And it was a perfect fit.

The engine sounds like a friggin' freight train lol compared to the KA. It is just simply mean sounding. Even coming to a stop, you can hear the turbos winding down, giving the whirling sound. What is completely different to me is having that extra 1000 RPMs. I am so stuck on shifting right at or even before 6500, that I am having to break that habit. So far, the farthest I haven taken it to is about 7100 RPMs, but I do not want to go ANY further until I put some more miles on it.

And, here is a funny thing. At the time we put the RB in and got it running, I haven't installed the recirculation kit for the HKS BOV. But, I am having ZERO problems running it atmospheric. There is no stumbling in RPMs after pressing and holding the clutch, or coming to a stop. It just goes to around 900-950 RPMs and stays there, no matter if I went to 7000 RPMs or if I was just driving normally.

The only real problem I had with this was a water pump leak. The one top center hole on the water pump is ovalish. Well, that 10mm head bolt sits on the far right side of that hole. Either the Permetex wore off or I didn't put any on at all below that hole, but coolant was leaking BADLY out of that hole. So, I took the bolt off, stuffed quite a bit of Permetex in there and placed the bolt in as well, let it dry/cure for about 2 days, and sure enough, all is good now.

If you have any other questions, please let me know. And thanks for all the remarks.

first of all, CONGRATS. looks awesome. glad to hear the driving impressions. fuse box cover shouldnt be hard to find. treat yourself to a new ornament cover too! personally i like the r34 ornament cover sticker.

hopefully i'll be up and running soon myself.

i have FAL 210s (puller). doesn't look like they will be fitting from your pics.

Yeah, I'll give you all a rough estimate a little later on. I have most of everything I bought for the swap written down and priced.

I had the wiring done by McKinney. I didn't want to spend the time or effort disecting two harnesses, to only mess up and have to buy another computer and wiring harness. I am good with wiring and such, but I wouldn't trust myself to do it on this important of a swap. Also, I know McKinney and they are 110% trustworthy, so I bit the bullet and had them do it. Now that everything works, I don't regret a single penny of it.

Thanks for explaining things. Sounds great! I'm excited to get mine running now.. that's why I like reading impressions, it pumps me up to get it done with.

If you could, you should try to get the car weighed. There's scales on the side of the roads and freeways usually (I'm sure you knew that), I'd be interested in seeing if it's under 2900.

One more question. Was Mckinney's wiring job plug and play for you? Meaning, you didn't have to do any extra wire extending?

Thanks.

Nameless: McKinney's wiring was completely plug and play. The only thing I had to do extra was the wiring for the A/C, which was a cinch. All I need now are the custom A/C lines made, which I have an appointment for next week hopefully, because it is hot as hell out there.

I am running one Flex-a-lite 220 in front of the A/C condenser as a pusher, and a single "el-cheapo" 12" eBay puller fan. So far, with both of them running, I have YET to overheat. It reached 90+ degrees here in GA today, and driving around I haven't seen the temp gauge creep up at all.

I will get videos when I either get a good video camera or someone else gets them lol. At this moment, I have a camera that has GREAT video capability, but no sound.

I am planning to make this both a light drag car and a light drifter. I like the best of both worlds. So right now, I am configuring what suspension I want to use, and most importantly what LSD I am gonna use. Because at this moment with the open diff, traction is a JOKE when at a stand-still. Even rolling at about 15 MPH in 1st gear and punching it, both tires break completely loose. Chirping 3rd gear is easy as hell, almost every time I can chirp it. And I do get an occassional 4th gear chirp.

I have the "boost restrictor" installed before the stock boost control solenoid and I am hitting 10-11 pounds, which is about stock. When I removed the boost restrictor that is in-line to the boost control solenoid thingie, I hit 15 pounds. WHOOPS!!! So until I can get an aftermarket computer and better fuel injectors, I am gonna keep it at 10-11 pounds. Hell, even at 15 pounds, that is PUSHING the stock turbos, which will not last long one bit with that amount of boost.

I may be making a piece of metal that will let me do about 13 pounds. All I have to do is find out the inner diameter of the stock boost restrictor, and make the new one larger than the stock inner diameter restrictor and less than the fully open hose, which is about 3/16". The Skyline boys in Austrailia remove this restrictor all the time to gain more boost/power, but since I am running a full 2.5" down-pipe collected to 3", and then 3" all the way back with no cat, I am naturally making more when I removed the restrictor.

So anyways, thank you all for the compliments. I will get more pictures and videos as time progresses.

I gotta tell you man, I am VERY impressed. Nothing better than an install that looks factory, my compliments brother, you did a GREAT job.

I like custom work that doesnt look custom, it LOOKS stock. That is what you accomplished.

Awww, Jon, that makes me want to cry hearing you say those kind words.. , just kidding.

Thanks a lot. The one thing I tried to focus on was to make it clean and look "stock" like. That is one pet-peeve of mine, seeing engine swaps that look like they do NOT belong to the car they are in. You just have to stay focused, take each step/mod at a time, and go from there. A bunch of people don't realize that, and they just throw **** into the engine bay, hoping that it works without SEARCHING and RESEARCHING. I did have a few questions here and there about the swap, but for the most part, I found a ton of my information by searching, not just NICO and 240sxforums, but ALSO SkylinesDownUnder and SkylinesAustralia.

Anyways, again, thanks for the kind words everyone.

Whenever I build cars I have 3 basic rules...

#1 Never work tired#2 Never work under pressure#3 (Most important) Just because you can.....doesnt mean you should.

It appears you did all 3 and did very well with them.

One of my FAVORITE builders (and he isnt a Nissan builder) is Chip Foose...ALL of his **** LOOKS stock, but its all custom. He knows what works with the design of the car and also what doesnt. He knows when to build a grille, & when to use the stock one...and when his grille that he built doesnt fit.

ALL his cars appear to follow my rules, except #2...I bet he is ALWAYS under pressure...HA HA HA
