what if I want to be able to use the camera on an aftermarket at any time, regardless of reverse? I gather that means current would run to it full-time and that raises the issue about heat? What can I do to resolve the extra heat generated?
I wanted to get Alpine's INE-W927HD. However, apparently, the stereo's depth is just slightly over the allowable depth for a 2013 Nissan Rogue.
My other issue/question regards using the recommended Idatalink' Maestro ADS-MRR or the Axxess version? From what I see, it looks like Kenwood may have limited capability with the Rogue's bluetooth steering wheel call features? Pioneer compatible stereos seem to have more? Anyone have experience with either?
My big worry is that I won't be able to use all the steering wheel bluetooth functions correctly.
Again, I appreciate everyone's advice and thoughts.
Sincerely,
Steve
Ok I edited your quote to address some of your questions.
1st question, the backup camera. The way I have it in my write-up is the backup cam only gets power when the reverse is engaged. It's a little complicated, but can be done. You would need a second power source to turn on the camera when you want to view it. This would avoid the heat issues, as it would only be on when you want it to. In my opinion you could wire up a switch to allow power, and diode isolate the reverse signal so it doesn't trigger "backup mode". Flip on when u want to use it, then select the function on the dash.
The other option is instead of using my write-up method to create a 12v to 5v source is to buy a cell phone charger that plugs into your cig lighter, a 5v one, and wire in a cig lighter female adapter that they sell at walmart to the existing cig lighter wires. This would always be on when your car is on, and turn of when the car is off. It shouldn't generate a lot of heat this way. You would have to disassemble and wire in the (+) and (-) wires on the phone charger. I've seen a write up on this and I could find it for you. I think it's on 12volt.com
Next question: Headunit depth. There is TONS of room behind the rogue's factory deck. The recommended depth is based off the stock headunit depth. I see no issues there. There's plenty of room.
3rd question, I have experience with the Axxess ASWC on a Pioneer unit. I will say everything worked flawlessly. I highly recommend it. I don't have any experience with the other.

I have a rear option as well on mine. When i press it however, it switches to the camera source but all i get is a black screen. There is no power going to my camera unless the car is in reverse. This is to prevent heat issues.
