i dont know a single company that makes a 205/45

youll need a 205/50

i think you can get all the good tires in that size

you live in Florida, you dont need to worry about snow

therefore go with the ones i have, avon tech m500, in the size i mentioned

these tires grip better in rain then my old ones did in dry

also a 215/40 wont look good at all, itll look like you have rubber bands around your wheels
You just have the summer Avon tire? I was thinking of getting the Avon M550 A/S's for this winter, for my 16's

i dont plan on driving my car in snow...ever

if i did id get a set of blizzaks, mounted on stock wheels, which are sitting in my garage

more than likely though the stockers will be getting very grippy dry tires like BFG KD or azenzis 615 or something for track days

I see..

Well my car is my daily driver (so has my previous s13), maybe if i ever get a freakin settlement from the accident earlier this year I'll get a B13 se-r as a daily beater.

So you really like the Avon's in the rain?

i live in a dorm, i dont need a car if i dont have to thank god

otherwise id probably be doing the same thing, driving a b13 se-r right now

anyways yeah the avons are at the top of the list on tire rack and they were over $100 cheaper than anything else that came close (next choice were RE750s), and they definately handle great, ive got like 4,000 miles on them right now and they havent faded at all

the only thing is like i said youd need a second set of tires for auto-x/track use because these dont like heat all that much, theyre pretty much street only

i havent taken them to an autocross yet but they might even do ok there because of the time to cool between runs, and they wont get that hot during one run

So are the Avon's pretty stiff in your opinion? (sidewall that is)I'm surprised for a summer performance tire they can't take the heat.

I've been going to SCCA autocrosses at a baseball stadium, if its hot day during the summer, the pavement radiates the heat so bad that i could feel it through my shoes (well i had on adidas driving shoes that have thin rubber soles).

Eh, they sound good though. Even though i autocross, i don't do it hardcore to justify having 3 sets of tires, i just need a decent all season, and a summer tire. I like what Avon has to offer, they look promising. I know they're big in the UK and if anyone knows what its like to have constant rain --its them.

i dont think these would hold up in the snow too well, but if you have a set of snow tires like i said these would be great

i know youre only an occasional auto-xer and i dont know that you ever go to the track, i think these would be great if youre looking for something new

my car came with the high end performance good years on it, i know thats not much, but i can push it so much harder now its not even funny

my favorite "25 mph" offramp i used to make screeching noises at 35-40, i can now take it at 75 no problem...needless to say the tires arent my weak point any more, i need to move onto suspension

but yeah id get these again in a heartbeat when i need tires again

Yes. . Comparing to a 205/60/15, 205/50/17 or 205/45/17 will keep you within 2% of the original tire diameter. An aspect ratio of 40 would put your speedo off and reduce tire diameter by 5%. 50 or 45. Its your choice. 50 will give u better top end, but slow acceleration, 45 will help acceleration out, but cause you to lose some top end. Since you were running steelies, Im assuming that your previous tire size was 195/60/15. In that case, 45 ratio would be your best bet for maintaing diameter.

It's all right here:http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

I run a 215/45/17 on my 7.5" wide front wheels. The tires are basically squared off with the wheels. If you go with a 225/xx/17 I'm pretty sure it would start to bulge the sidewall. You're running a rim thats .5" smaller than mine so I would probably go with a 205/50 to maintain a similar fitment to stock, no buldging sidewalls, and no stretched tire. if you go with a 40 series that tire is going to look tiny on that rim, and REALLY bad with the height of the stock suspension. You will also need either new rims or some 10mm spacers if you want to run coilovers because those wheels will hit them. If you want to run Z brakes you are going to have the same problem. I think thats why everyone told you to get different wheels, they won't work as is with better brakes or good suspension.

i have 225s on a 7.5", if it bulges at all its hard to tell

and nobody makes a 205/45/17, go with a 205/50/17

I orderd 215/45/R17s it is supposed to be the correct size for the wheels without bulge (That's what the tire guy had in his book) i'm lowering the car with Tein springs 1.5 in the front 1.2 in the rear. The wheels came in the mail they look so sweet!

It's obvious that he is going the cheap route with his wheels, so I dont think hes gonna fork over the money to get em done. No offence kenrick-cheap is good .

I'm sure he's fine...that's 8mm more clearance than my FN 17x8 +35's. I have those with coilovers, so he's fine....not pretty but will fit fine.
