It's got Nissan ... and the word LeMans... did I mention it's JDM? ... it is the coolest god damn shirt on the market!vicki wrote:I don't think the Nissan is big enough.

So I don't really get why people wear like racing shirts and all that stuff daily. It's not really a petpeeve but it's like such an advertisement. Then those same people have the audacity to say to me that they think the coach logo on my bags are tacky and trying to gauge attention.
Ok, we all know you're into cars, that's why we're all here but I just don't get why some people feel the need to broadcast it all the time. Girls in particular. "cars are my life" and they go around wearing "girlie girl racing" shirts and stuff.
Ok... sorry. This isn't targetted at you personally, Alan. That pic just reminded me of a mild annoyance that I haven't expressed openly yet and felt this was the opportune moment.
It's perfectly ok. I have a few that I wear to car events and meets etc. But I am talking about people who only own car shirts and wear it religiously as if they have to advertise that they are car nuts.BadMojo wrote:Soooo...it's not OK to wear an article of clothing related to a hobby or just something you like? So, If I like whales, I shouldn't wear a t-shirt with a whale on it?
I'll admit that most of my clothing and accessories were purchased for status symbol. Not for the need to "keep up" with others but because I've worked hard and I make enough money to be able to afford the finer things in life. Inadequacy? Hardly. I can wear a $2 dollar tshirt from Walmart and feel as comfortable and confident as I would in a $200 tshirt from a high end designer label.BadMojo wrote:It's different from people who wear designer stuff just because it's a status symbol and they feel the need to "keep up" with others. There's a difference between wearing something because you like the product or subject matter and wearing something because of some feeling of inadequacy.
They make $200 tshirts?! Who on earth could afford that? I think most of my shirts are 3-4 years old.vicki wrote: I can wear a $2 dollar tshirt from Walmart and feel as comfortable and confident as I would in a $200 tshirt from a high end designer label.
I don't mind dressing nicely but there is a point to which it becomes "too far".Jesda wrote:I hate urbanites and all that foofey high-end fashion culture. Midwest thing I guess.
Haha. See, people think that if you own expensive clothes you'll get mugged etc. That's not true. I live in the city. I go to school in a very safe neighborhood. I've never been mugged and I wear expensive jewelry and clothes all the time. And I don't "look" rich to people who aren't rich, i.e. I am a jeans a tshirt kinda girl but I generally wear designer jeans like Sevens and Citizens that are upwards of 120 a pop. So to those who would be doing the mugging, they look like regular jeans.skydragoness5 wrote:i think some of my tees are from highschool wOot!
honestly, i don't see what all the rage is about designer clothes, or expensive clothes for that matter. albeit, looking like a bum with tattered shirts/jeans is bad, but looking like your loaded isn't good either. That makes you a target to get mugged IMO. That has to be true no matter what area you live in.
Honestly, just wear what you wanna wear is how I see it. If higher priced clothing makes you feel better then by all means wear it. If cheaper or well used clothing makes you feel comfy then by all means wear it.vicki wrote:

If I want to spend my money on a pair of jeans that I think makes me feel sexy and look good, then I should be able to do it without people guilt tripping me about it. As long as that's not my only concern in life, which if it isn't obvious by now based on my posts on here, isn't then I don't see why it should bother anyone.
EDIT: and my most comfy and favorite t shirts are old vintage gym tees from HS.
I can definitely understand that. I'm that way about cars. I refuse to drive anything "less" while others could really give a ****. It feels good to me -- I could drive a Sentra to school but I really dig that Infiniti logo (and that growling V8). So while you have your $200 shirts, I have my $3800 car that rapes me at the parts counter and costs $40 at the pump for premium.vicki wrote:If I want to spend my money on a pair of jeans that I think makes me feel sexy and look good, then I should be able to do it without people guilt tripping me about it.
