Ack., your Cressida looks just as busted as my S12, lol.

Nice interior, did you scrub it with raspberry puke, or is that what happens when you blow the head off an oompahloompah?

Haha, this car is the definition of beat. 1984, not too rusty though.

Makes for a great winter beater though!

GEE, why so much hostility towards the Cressida.. lemme find out your ex-girlfriend left you for a guy with a Cressida.

One, have you OWNED a Cressida? Yes, they are like a lil limo, and yeah, they can drift. They are good looking, obviously, because they have a WIDE fanbase.. from Australia, Canada, the US AND Japan.

I love RX7s.. the 1st gen had it's own style and was affordable, the 3rd gen is a much SOUGHT after car, technically advanced for it's time and styling like no other car..

Now, the 2nd gen was BLAH!! I could say the 2nd was a POOR copy of the Porsche 944 Turbo with it's nose(check it out, Mazda designers musta went on a break when they made the 2nd gen, and didn't TRY with styling) and slight bulgy fenders.. then I'd just be a hater NOW wouldn't I?

BTW, Nice Cressida you bought, dude.. Mod it up, the possibilities are endless. LOL

haha i agree w ur rx7 anaylsis.... while i can appreciate a clean FC (white comets is probably my favorite), i just could never own one. i love the first gen waay more.

no mods planned for it. MAYBE if it lasts 2 or 3 years of abuse in the winter ill consider it. For now, its just my daily grind. and whoever said the only fun you can have in one was in the winter thats not entirely true. the back seats are definately big enough to have some fun

unlike my s13...

You know what grinds my gears? My first car, instead of a 95hp Sentra, could have been a Cressida. My parents almost bought one (I remember being in the showroom at the Toyota dealer) but they were instead offered a great deal on a Sentra demo.

That miserable little rustbucket became my first means of motor transportation.

I prefer the Mazda 929 to the Cressida because of the quicker steering, smoother styling, better feedback, stronger brakes, little features like ventilation Swing and Pioneer sound system, and better handling. But the Cressida is much better built with a huge availability of parts and aftermarket upgrades.

So, stock for stock, 929 wins. As an older car to maintain or upgrade, the Cressida is cheaper and easier.

Jesda, what do you think of the later round 929s?

Ugly is a matter of opinion.

And yeah, if they were FWD no one would give them a second thought. Being RWD changes everything. You can't fit a 7M or a 1JZ in a front driver, can you? Cressida is a great looking classic rear-driver that's cheap to own and offers a torquey powerplant with good potential, several swap options if you want MORE potential, has IRS... Really, what is not to like aside from subjective looks? It's popular for the same reason the IS300 is popular: Supra drivetrain options in a 4-door.

I'd rather have an 810 Maxima than a Cressida, but I'll happily settle for a Cressie instead.

not off the top of my head. i heard about developing them as well. if you can find something that will fit it in another kit, it would work though. get the measurements and see if energy suspension has something similar?

yea that mechanic is just sorta picky

the guy i take my 240 two is really chill

so i might just take the car there instead.... i was thinking of measuring it up and doing something from a similar sized bushing... but its hella cold and i dont have room in the garage to work on this.

damn i hate the NE

Cramped but smooth and attractive. I think of it as Japan's XJ6.

I love the jellybean styling, the comfort, the quiet, the sweeping dashboard, and the high-tech goodies like a solar-panel sunroof. They tried really hard to compensate for the cheap plastic in the last generation. The 88-91 dashboard plastics were made out of peanut brittle.

Its not quick though, and by being more refined it lacks the steering and chassis feel that made the old one kind of fun. Mazda jacked up parts prices on these cars, and aftermarket parts and knowledgeable service are hard to come by, thus the reason I haven't owned one. Mazda also dropped the manual transmission for 1992.

The Q45 is a superior car. A few years ago, you could get a sharp 929 for $3500 while a Q45 in similar shape was $7-$8k. Now, both cars have bottomed out in resale value. An old and tired 929 can be had for $1500. A similarly old Q45 could be had for $2500. Not much of a price difference anymore.

It wasn't until a couple years ago that a decent Mazda forum with adequate 929 support finally showed up. My little Yahoo club was the only resource available for years.

i like the way early 929's look but they seem to be exceedingly rare these days. cressidas are going to be the new 240sx for a while until the kids buying them realize they are a ***** to work on and buy parts for. there are always a few for sale on craigs at sub-$1k prices around here in various states of disrepair.

just to update:

i just sold my cressida yesterday; it was sad to see her go..... after nearly three years of ownership i sold her for 750.... a bit more than i picked it up for :)

overall it was a great buy, id definately buy another one.... ive never driven such a smooth ride that you can neglect that much and it just keeps truckin.

one day i will own an mx7 or mx6 and make a bozoku project.... for now, its just time to enjoy my swedish brick :)

Bummer. Sometimes I think about what I would get rid of mine for, it would honestly take a straight across trade for an e38 BMW with a v8 and a manual transmission to get me out of this car.

Good luck with your Volvo, they're pretty fun too. Just a completely different philosophy.

haha yea.... they can also be fun; just not in the speed department.... i lucked into a 5spd one that are sorta hard to find....the sedan gets suprisingly decent fuel economy, and for what i need right now, the bulletproof design and overengineering should provide years of low maintainence

sooooo

i bit the bullet

http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/2544504930.html

after a little haggling drove her home yesterday for 1300 it was a respray so the paint isnt perfect, but the body is suprisingly solid for a NE car. The one fender will eventually need some love, but im back in a cressida again

so i guess now is a good time to sell my volvo :)

im doing the titlework today, and since its an out of state car, i need to inspect it. it should be legal in a few weeks. Till then it will chill at my sisters house in their garage.

drives like a dream :bigthumb:

Nice interior. I just stripped mine out in the wagon because it was so ragged and disgusting. LMK if you want some extra stock hubcaps.
