I dislike the first-gen Highlander's 3MZ 3.3. Not for reliability or mechanical quality reasons, but for performance and NVH reasons. Especially being a Japanese V6, it is a very disappointing motor. It just doesn't make pleasant noises and isn't nearly as smooth as the VQ or VG. It always sounds like it's being worked hard, even when it isn't. And it's gutless enough in the Camry...I can't imagine tolerating it in something heavier. The 2nd Gen Highlander gets the newer 3GR which is a VAST improvement over the 3MZ.

Not irrelevant at all. She obviously chose the TL because she liked something about it.

What exactly did she like about it? After having owned it for a couple years what did she still like and now dislikes? What is pushing her towards an SUV?

You need to know someone's likes and dislikes to make a proper recommendation.

All we are getting is a list of "I think she needs this".

It doesn't matter. Dude, you're inserting yourself much deeper than what was requested. All this young man asked for were suggestions. That's all. He laid out what she wants. You suggested minivans. He made it clear that wasn't an option. Why can't you simply accept his decision and move on?

That's amusing. My wife said she wanted a Z4 too when first she saw one.She was joking. I'm wondering if your mom is kidding too.

But If she's willing to give up the ability to carry more than 2 bags of groceries or take more than one passenger as her primary vehicle, its a fun vehicle.

Women are so indecisive. I guess PMQ's annoying questions kind of make sense now. If she'll go for a Z4 she might as well consider a minivan, Vespa, bread truck, or World War-era biplane.

STFU you tool.

That's what she originally had in mind. It's bad enough you s*** in people's threads with useless info, but worse when you start making attacks on me. Your posts are irrelevant to the topic and your opinions are f***ing retarded. Why do you feel the need to push your biased point of views when they don't have anything to do with the criteria? So what if my mom changes her mind, big deal. Women tend to do that.

But I guess you wouldn't know about anything along those lines since you're an exorbitant prick.

If you don't have anything constructive to say that is relevant to the topic, LEAVE. And take your minivan with you douche.

It seems that your input is useless too. Your mother does not know what she wants. You took a tiny bit of what she wants and came here with it.

Please just ask her basic questions so an appropriate recommendation can be made.

*edit* I will LMFAO if she ends up with a van or wagon

How is it MY input? I started the topic. If you're referring to my input on her vehicle choice, I want her to pick something she wants, not what I want. I could easily pick out a car for her that she would be fine with having, BUT THAT'S NOT RELEVANT.
PoorManQ45 wrote: You took a tiny bit of what she wants and came here with it.
That's what she originally wanted, I posted accordingly.

SUVs are trucks. By definition. That's what SUV means. A truck with an enclosed, non-separate cargo area.

Quote »My MOM needs a vehicle. She doesn't need a friggin F-350.
An f350 is a vehicle. It's also has the same drivetrain and frame as that large SUV called the Excursion. Therefore, it has a point because it is further validating the mileage seen by the Excursion since it's almost the same vehicle.

FWIW most of the Excursions around here are driven by women.... About half the trucks are too.

Quote »And who the hell drives 55 on the highway?!?!
I'm sure some people do. I drive about 55 on the Farm to Market roads around here. This also happens to be right around the speed limit on most of them.

On true highways we push the truck on up to 75 or 80 and still get a bit over 15 IIRC. We don't use do that with it much though.

Quote »I'm not bashing big trucks (or SUVs ), it's just that they're irrelevant to this thread.
OP wrote:- It's gotta be an SUV.

- She wants power seats and all the creature comforts

- Has to have "pick up." No Scion XB's. lol

So yeah, any suggestions are welcome! Thanks guys!
Sounds like what you meant to say was that your mom was interested in a small car/station wagon with a factory lift kit.

Are you seriously telling his mom to get an F350? I have nothing against them, but its not practical at all for this situation. Maybe if she had two dobermans and 4 kids that all played soccer and football and a yacht, and f350 would be applicable. For for a regular go-to-work/errands car even a suburban would be too much.

Overconsumption, its killin us mang.

Not really. But most everyone has missed the point of why it was brought up and are just screaming about physical dimensions.

Also:1)Technically the Excusion is 3/4 ton. It has f250 underpinnings. 2)It was pointed out that that the excursion with the diesel gets similiar mileage to some gas powered suvs. This was scoffed at and I'm still wondering if some people understand we're refering to the diesel.3)For some this vehicle isn't over consumption even if driven around empty most of its life because it should easily run twice as long as everything else in this thread. The difference in mileage compared to the price of a second vehicle is severely overblown. For further reference see the fuel sipping Prius' costs. Unfortunatly she probably wouldn't keep it long enough to realize those benefits.4) All I was saying originally was that his mileage claims weren't completely rediculous. Just a bit optimistic maybe for some people.

This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO true. David Frieburger (Hot Rod editor) talked about how he would need to drive a Prius 300k miles or something to make it worth crushing his DD (I think it was a Tempest but I don't remember).

While this is certainly true, and buying another car just to save on gas is almost always ridiculously misguided, if you're ALREADY planning to purchase a new/additional car fuel economy is one of those cost-of-ownership factors to consider. Then again demanding an SUV and then b****ing about fuel economy makes about as much sense as buying a snickers bar and complaining that you're allergic to peanuts.

While fuel economy was NOT a concern for me when I replaced the Q, I still find the 6mpg average increase quite nice. I wish it hadn't come with a smaller fuel tank attached, though. 22 gallons + 23 mpg combined would ROCK. And 30 combined sounds awesome in econocars and compact crossovers until you see those tank sizes. 12 gallons at 30mpg doesn't get you as far as 18 at 23.

Dude, I recommended an Excursion because most women like big trucks and an Excursion fits most of his requirements. The excursion is known as "The King Of SUV's". Are you his mom's boyfriend or something? How do you know it's not practical? You srsly have no idea.
