Updates!Got the car to start yesterday. The new BIP373 igbt chip is EXTREMELY sensitive to being properly isolated from the heatsink. My multimeter read 85k ohms between the bips common tab and the heatsink(yes with a mica insulator), but apparently that wasn't enough. So temporarily i just unbolted it from the heatsink and bent it up. Now the car starts right back up, but the BIP gets warm after a while so i'm going to have to figure out some way to insulate it while still keeping it on the heatsink.

Current goals.1. Get the BIP reattached to the heatsink in some way that it still works.2. Double check the tune, and play with the idle + warmup enrichment stuff.3. Go off and get it inspected.

On the positive side if anything goes wrong now, i've got 3 more IGBT's laying around.

No problem with the questions. It's all good.

As long as people aren't stupid they won't have problems with the megasquirt board. The new firmwares have really progressed and it's quite easy to use.My problem started off from one big error.

1. When i loaded the new release firmware, i modified the tune file i'd been using(which was running on a firmware that was known to corrupt things). So i was running a corrupted tune, that corrupted the firmware. and THAT is what caused my ignition to fry. Nothing wrong with the megasquirt itself, just me not doing things right.

2nd issue with the BIP and the heatsink. I'm going to blame myself for that as well. I had a tube of heatsink compound from my computer laying around(silver based stuff). It is more conductive then the thermal compound that comes with the megasquirt chips. Later today, I'm going to remount the BIP with new compound and double check all the resistances. Once that is set everything should be good.

Therefore, if you follow the directions on the megasquirt site and don't do stupid stuff with the firmware that should be fine. (ie rebuild the tune for a new firmware)And if you buy either a prebuilt board, or closely follow directions and test everything well the board itself should be fine too. (I built mine, and while it works fine i'm bound to screw something up sooner or later)

W00T!!!!Car passed inspection today, everything looks great.

Now, i'm probably going to completely redo my fuel and ignition tables, after some actual experience playing with megasquirt and driving the car i've realized a couple of things i could really fix if i sat and took the time to do it.

I also found a steady state dyno ~30 min from where i live. So after i work out a rough tune, i might take it down there for some REAL tuning.I should also go and nab some completed pics so everyone can see what it all looks like now.

Either way, enjoy your weekends everyone!!!

Figured it would probably be a good idea to update this with some pics of it "finished".

Anyways here's the interior. And megasquirt awesomely tucked under the radio.

Engine bay is fully wired, everything is fine. ONLY problem i've found in the engine bay is that my power steering hose got pinched. So my pump started whining. I fixed the pinch and it went away... but idk.

Where i mounted my oil cooler between the radiator and intercooler.

So far i'm tuned decent to ~6 psi. Car absolutely hauls. Dump tube on the wastegate just makes this obscenely loud/awesome roaring noise.i'm looking for a semi-local dyno so i can go do some actual tuning and get some number pulls in. I'm also wondering if i need to upgrade my radiator and electric fan. Under normal conditions engine temp is ~190. But if the weather is 80+ and really humid it starts getting to almost 210. Probably a non-issue, but colder is better.

If anyone is looking to run an MS2 setup. Just get in touch with me and i'll hook you up with my tune and try to answer any of your questions.

Awesome man, great work, so happy to see that someones got MS2 working well. I fking love MS even though it kinda kicked my *** haha. I love how you say 'finished', i know how that is.

A MS digi-dash setup would go nicely if you wana go baller status, but im not sure you can fit any more gages in your car...

Dont worry about 210 temps, thats at the far end of normal. Anywhere between 180-210 is fine. You dont want to run to cool, your engine needs to be heated up to a certian degree.

There are a few things that stick out like a sore thumb in your engine bay that i noticed. First, man if you get a spare 20 bucks you should pick up some pick-a-color hose from McMaster-Carr to replace your PCV systems tubing, that sht looks ghetto as hell and it looks to be pinched badly right before the intake. Second, man.. Who welded your IC pipes up! Woahhh, probably had to take a few trips to pick up extra filler rods for that hehe. Or is that Migd up, its hard to tell from the pics. It kinda looks like it was migged.. Meh, either way, thats pretty damn rough.

Regardless, your car gets a double thumbs up man, great work.

Check out the new MSTunerstudio... should be the replacement for megatune. If there was some way to mount a laptop in my dash... to display the screen from that. it would be SICK!

PCV stuff.. yeah i had it on hand so i didn't really care what it looks like. As for the welding i was going to have a friend who knew what they're doing TIG it for me. Instead i let another friend try his hand at MIG welding aluminum. needless to say... you can definitely see my regret....

Iv been away from the MS scene for about a year now, im sure theres all kindsa cool sht thats out. Ill have to get back into it sometime, i wana do a budget drag car for fun with a MS powered ka-t.. Not enough money for auto-X yet so, thats on hold.

Haha **** man, that dude had no idea what he was doing! Its rare to even find a guy whos setup to mig alum, you would think he would know what he was doing. If i was watching him do that i would have just been like dude, stop. Shoulda had him run a few test beads on some of the scrap pipe before he welded your BOV flange(and the rest of it), owch man.. I feel your pain.

Just glad they wernt your welds!
