yeah probably a variable resistor style sender that sends gauge signal also sends ground to the light when you get close to empty.

Wow, Notice how far below the E you picture shows the needle that explains why when I fill up the needle never goes all way up above F mark. Usually it take about 12.5 gallons. 17.125 is the capacity for our gas tanks.

On S14's you can drive the car an easy 40 - 50 miles with the needle BELOW E.

Just about every 90's Nissan has issues with fuel level sender units.

When I fill my tank with the needle being at E, it only pumps about 14 more gallons, but the capacity should be 17gal. The meter is hella off.... And yeah...I've never seen my low fuel light come on either. I wonder what color it is....

mine works on my s13 but the light doesnt like shine on. it more or less goes from dimmer to brighter. im glad im not the only one i thought my fuel gauge was narfed up because it was reading well below E. you dont know how much gas money ive gotten for that. muhaha
