why does retarding timing cause boost creep?

Bah... accept it, you were " sandbaggin' "

Nice ride, quite sleeper, dunno how the hell you race that kat with an open dif.

Next time, quit sandbagging and bring us some REAL numbers!!!

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. Exhaust temp rises as timing is retarded. Maybe that leads to boost creep.

The air fuel mixture starts burning later and later the more you retard the timing... eventually with enough retard, the mixture is still burning when the exhaust valve opens... This basically causes combution in the header and that type of gas expansion outside the combustion chamber creates the boost creep.. This also causes burnt exhaust valves and elevated engine tempatures....

This is also how anti-lag works.....

So basically this is the reason. Hotter exhaust causes more pressure in the manifold, causing extra spool so to speak.

This is a shot of a few graphs from Sunday morning.... I am pretty happy with the TQ curve that is holding pretty damn steady all the way to 8000 rpms.... The low HP graph is on pump gas with the timing retarded to keep the knock under control... You can see how crappy the run looks (very choppy).... I know I posted earlier that it made 550 something (because I honestly couldnt remember) but I guess it made almost 567 RWHP... I was more interested in AF ratios and knock voltage and of course, getting the car to the track

haha, that torque curve is ridiculous!

Do you have a complete spec list for the car? Inquiring minds would like to know.

I know a mod-list for that car is seemingly endless but I'm curious as to what your engine internals are for it to be able to spin safely to 8000 rpms...I know you have crower rods, lightweight pistons, fully balanced assembly, stiffer valve springs, crower v3 cams, and probably a full port and polish/5 angle valve job (oversized valves too?)....what else?

And that power was made at around 25 psi, correct?

I think he's got the Turbo- trans in it. The C4 (I thought) was in another AMS shop car.

I think it may be a Nissan transmission. It seems like I heard him mention a 4 speed nissan auto at one point to but I can't find it.

look at what i found in the topic 'Ford C4 in an S13'
9sec240 wrote:This specific C4 is built to the hilt... Its rated to over 800 HP.. Its set up with a reverse manual valve body.. what this means is that it will need to be shifted (there are no automatic shifts) and that the pattern is P R N 1 2 3 (forward gears are reversed)... We are using a B&M quick silver shifter to change gears.... Its a ratchet shifter... You can see Brad Davies car in action HERE... He has the first setup we made and is using a simular shifter... Both mine and Brad's C4s have trans brakes... A trans brake allows you to go WOT and not have your car move.. It does this electronically at the push of a button... When stopped in first gear, you press a button that activates the trans brake which puts the car in reverse ALSO.. with the trans trying to go forward and backwards at the same time, it locks your car into place... when you release the button, it lets go of reverse and your off like a rocket.... pretty pimp shiznat....

FRH race ported head with competition valve job, Super Tech springs, retainers, Super Tech .5mm and .7mm oversize valves, Crower V3 cams, Cometic gasket, copper o-ringed block deck, 11mm ARP head stud upgrade, Arias pistons, Crower rods, Clevite bearings, fully grooved #2 and #4 main bearings, ARP main studs, crank is knife edged, shotpeened, nitride coated and fully balanced, oil pump is shimmed for higher relief pressure... Same motor you can purchase from us....

The HP has still not crested even at 8000 rpms which means the intake manifold, porting, and cams are doing thier job... My concern at 8000 rpms is bearing life.... Its something that isnt proven yet... There will be a lot of stress on components at that engine speed with a long rod motor...

The dyno graphs are for 27-28 psi...

This thread was about Chris's 91 coupe... When I mentioned "mine" I was refering to the C4 I had built and not my car...

That is the slowest dam rocket I have ever seen!

Taken from a post titled "C4 in an S13"

Refering to "my" C4 transmission in Chris's S13...

My car has a Z32 TT AT with no trans brake... My stall is too tight... I am also not using nitrous on the launch as planned....

Give me a little time and the car will be pulling much better 60ft times...
