COMON guys... get realistic... you CANT make 600 whp on pump gas in a 2.4 L motor... This motor made 155 CRANK HP from the factory SAFELY...

Oh, woops, didn't see the pump gas part. How about 468....that's my new guess.

We are not done with the pump gas tune...

I have another 500 rpms that I want to spin the motor...

We are going to play with timing some more...

I am running WG pressure right now... I still have to hook up the boost controler and get the boost to come up to max creep level... TQ will increase and HP under the curve will be much higher... I have already swapped the 1 bar spring with a set of springs totaling 1.4 bar...

We may be able to turn the boost up a bit more on 93 octane....

I am fairly confident that 475 is doable... We shall see tomorrow...

Before the race gas tune, I am going to hit the track (Sunday at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove WI) to see what the car will run....

450HP on PUMP gas with no knock?? quite impressive. thats crazy you can just go to the local gas station and pump the 93 octane and go boosting 450hp. are you guys aiming for more power on pump gas? or is it time to wake that turbo up?

edit : damn Ivan you made me spoke to soon

No nitrous.... All boost and 93 octane.... No methenol, no octane booster, absolutly nothing that would increase HP other than boost....

No fake elevated numbers, smoothing set right in the center of the scale...

I am sure removing the dump would increased the spool and possibly added some HP, The IC resivoir was filled with ambient water that may have been heated some by the multitude of dyno pulls... Ice in the IC box would have surely added HP... Removing the air filter might have helped some.... but this is not what I wanted... I wanted real world figures on the car set up the same way I drive it on the streets....

I noticed that you are just running a K&N mini on the VC breather. Have you thought about routing that into the down pipe with a one way. I know some of the Supra guys have started doing that with good results.

What a crazy past 48 hours... My car has been on the dyno about 5 times, made a long road trip, hit the drag strip, and finally got named....

First off her new name is "Something Wicked" which she enjoys very much

Here is the run down of events...

As you remember, I was having boost creep issues with the small WG and large turbo... I swapped in a stiffer spring set to get base boost closer to where it crept to...

Yesterday (saturday):

She got strapped back on the dyno to try to get a good tune on 93 octane... With a 1.4 bar spring combo (21 psi) in the Tial 44, combined with colder weather, boost was creeping more than the previous dyno sessions... Swapping to a spring combo that was inbetween the 1 and the 1.4 bar spring sets didnt help either... unfortunatly Martin had to take off so the dyno session ended... I took this time to straighten out a few things on the car and swap in a .9 bar spring and got it strapped to the dyno for an early AM tune before heading off to Import Wars at Great Lakes Dragaway....

Today (sunday)

"Something Wicked" was looking all chipper strapped to the dyno at 7am this morning when I got to work... I had thought about things over night and decided that if the boost was creeping bad that a pump gas tune was just not going to cut it... Here is the issue... To keep the motor from knocking at the boost levels it was creeping to, timing had to be turned way down... Too little timing creates boost creep..... You can see in the dyno graphs I posted before that at over 5000 rpms, the graph gets choppy... This is one way to tell that the motor needs more timing... but with 93 octane, its going to detonate.... kind of a catch 22.... The first run on the dyno told the story... boost creep to over 25 lbs.. Time to drain the pump gas and put in some Street Blaze 101 in the tank... The only problem is that we are out of the 101 and the next step up is 110 octane... Oh well...

While Martin is tapping away on the computer changing the fueling and timing curves to somthing more appropriate for the race gas, I was pouring some really nice smelling purple VP racing fuel in the cell.... On the very first run you could see the difference... She really wanted some timing... LARGE power gains were made in the mid range and up top the graph was MUCH smoother... Boost only crept to 20 psi... Martin is a wizzard when it comes to tuning so it wasnt long before we finally got to turn the boost controler on

We needed to get a tune done kind of quick so I could take "Something Wicked" on our first date... I didnt want to be late and disappoint the girl by missing first round qualifying at import wars.... Turning the boost up to 25 netted some really decent HP... Things were looking really good... We ended up stopping at about 29 psi where she screamed out 550something HP to the wheels (dyno charts tomorrow).... We worked on the WOT shift tables.... Then some drivabiltiy on the dyno and then it was her time to shine...

With Chris1 behind the wheel and me behind the laptop, we ventured off on a 65 mile cruise to GLD... I was addressing part throttle shifting tables while Chris was fighting steering wheel shake... My bad.. I was very anxious to get the wheels mounted on my car when they came in that I just had the fronts mounted and didnt have them balanced... Anything over 70 mph on the expressway was enough to numb the hands and make all the mirrors useless... A 411 call later and we were headed to a Just Tires to get the tires taken care of... Its funny how small this world is some times... The Just Tires we ended up at just happen to have an fellow street racer working there who had me balanced up for FREE in about 20 minuets... I tipped him 20 bux and we headed off to Jewel to buy an I Pass (electronic toll paying device) because it was a real PITA to get money out when your strapped in with a 5 point harness....

On the highway she buzzed pretty loudly due to the solid motor and trans mounts but it was nothing unbearable... Everything worked like it was supposed to... Coolant temps at 189... IATs at 95... A/F right at stoich.... The only thing I was tweaking on the AEM was the shifting tables.... By the time we got to the track it was dialed in pretty damn well...

Tech was a breeze and after airing the tires down to 17 psi, I got into the staging lanes and waited for my turn... I just wanted to make a base boost run to make sure the car went straight, shifted like it should, and stopped well at the end... I wasnt expecting anything spectacular due to the lack of stall in the converter... I could only get about 2400 rpms out of it before I would push the front tires or brake the rears loose... I was predicting a 2.5 60ft and I ended up being a bit off... 2.54 seconds after I left the line I crossed the 60ft mark... She felt like a Nissan Quest minivan... about 330ft out, she was starting to get pissed... angry... violent.... out of nowhere, "something wicked" happend and she screamed as the open diff let the rear right tire spin... RPMs shot to 8000 and she banged second gear and spun the tire... BANG 8000 rpms and she slams into third... the tire stopped spinning... she squatted down in the back and lifted her front and we were off like a bullet.... Third gear is absolutly SICK... She pulls SOOOOOoooo hard.... My body is being pushed into the seat so hard as I cross the traps at 127 mph... She went straight as an arrow the whole way down the track... The brakes worked just like they should.... I pulled around to the timing tower and pick up my slip and its a 12.9 My car is the "OFFICIAL" poster car for turbo lag....

Second run is now with the boost controler on... I staged the Quest (I mean 240sx) and roll out to another 2.54 60ft... 330 come up and "Something Wicked" lives up to her name again... She changes shape right there on the track and becomes a SPORTS CAR!!!! Tire spinning, trans banging gears, WG roaring.... 131.5 MPH trap speed and I run 12.80 HAHAHAHAHAHA..... I heard that people were laughing in the stands and getting quite a kick out of my show.... Oh well.... She is going straight, shifting, and making power.... I have plenty of time to get the converter restalled... Another pass and she pulls a 12.7..... Last pass of the day... BAD tire spin at the top of first and all thru second and I went 13.5..... She is in one piece and ready to get some air in the tires for the trip home...

Well.. I am happy to report that she is safe at home nestled snugly in the garage waiting to show her wicked ways again at the turn of a key.... I am waiting for Ryan to finish the vids so that you all can see the violent temper of Something Wicked.....

I had an EXCELENT time... I am very happy with how far things have progressed in the past month...

Yes, open diffs suck.. Wait till you see the vid shot from behind... Its absolutly hilarious.... I have a Linclon Locker (welded diff) at the shop but I was a bit hesitant to use it... I also have a Q45 VSLD at the shop which I plan on installing... On the dyno with the stock diff I could only manage 140 MPH speeds at 8000 rpms in third gear.... When I get the TC restalled, that number will drop... so the Q diff is looking good to me....

the welded would wear tires funny on the street, but it would be better than the q45...but anythings better than an open

heck im getting my helical this summer because id be scared to run 300 with an open diff, nevermind 550 or more

Wow, that lag is VICIOUS!!!

Were you using nitrous to aid in the spooling of the turbo? Or no? And if not, will you be using it later? I know you said when you dynoed it you did it w/o methanol and nitrous, but I'm curious if you used the nitrous during the 1/4 mile passes...That turbo is a monster!

No nitrous right now... the plan is when I get the TC restalled high enough, then I will spray it out of the hole till I make enough boost to make her fly...

yeah holy shlt talk about some lag! i was hoping to see a highway pull. that would really show the power. although the 131 mph trap showed that pretty good. especially since you started to take off a few hundred feet down the track.

Wow, just wow!

I dont know where Ive been for the past month, but at least I got the story without the suspense, haha. First, the motor is beautiful. Second, the car is just plain FAST. In the first drag, that Bug rcokets off the line, but once the turbo spools, it looks like you caught him at the end. Now thats FAST!

Cant wait to see how far you can take this motor. You rock, Ivan. Oh yeah, and awesome dog too...
