This has given me hope for gabossie and s13guy When I first started going out with her she was incredibly anti-bush. She hated bush more than anyone.Through political lectures, and ranting and raving i have almost converted her into a republican.Today she even wore this t-shirt, and damn does it make me proud

I have saved her from the dark side

I'd never let a guy persuade me to change my political stance. I think it's dumb, personally. But hey, if her not thinking for herself makes you happy, then congrats.

LOL, no she thinks for herself, I just provided her with news articles, got her to watch certain things on the bill o'reilly show, and after 5 months, she is cured

Okay, Bill O'Reilly? You're digging a hole here, as most people who disagree with Bush hate O'Reilly...

Honestly, fanatical anything is frightening, plain and simple.

I wonder why that is?

fanatics on both sides dislike O'Reilly. That's why he does so well, because he keeps the discussion focused, allowing both sides to be shown. "No Ideology Zone" emails come from both sides, one says he's so far left he's about to fall over, the other says he works for the Bush campaign. Obviously they didn't see the show as others do.

Almost every night he reads emails, one of each, from a leftist looney, and from the far right. Both accuse him of working for the other.

A case against his down the middle show, is bogus. Blowin hot air over there junior!

I get that, I wasn't calling him fanatical. In my opinion, he's not (though he definitely leans right)...

What I'm saying is that die-hard Democrats hate him with a burning passion, and that saying that watching him converted her as a good idea would not go well with them.

Who the hell listens to what he has to say [Bill O' Reilly]? That's like taking Rush Limbaugh seriously.

It wasn't necessarily O'Reilly as much as it was his guests, especially michael moore, whom he would rip him a new *******

im so conservative i make the republicans look like pinko commies. i dont really like o'reilly. too jerky with folks and stuff. also i think he is too liberal. guess that puts me in the ol' fanatic zone eh? nevertheless...i am personally amazed that you were able to change a womans mind on anything. is it me or do they generally like to take the other side and fight you on it? heh, maybe thats just my experience. my wife will argue me to no end and then come back and say she heard the pastor or someone else say it and suddenly she thought it made sense! maybe its just my abrasive style.

Hey, Rush is my idle. Most people don't like that he tells the truth. He is anti-bush, anti-kerry, anti-us political opression. Is there anything wrong with that.

BTW, Kerry sucks. But, Bush sucks even more.

I think it was the lead singer of Outcast that said this when asked why he doesn't vote, "It's like choosing which bullet you are going to get shot with". That is a perfect statement. Because it's true.

If I were going to vote, I'd vote for Nader. He is a "real" american.

This is a slightly different situation, his gf is what? 16 maybe? Doesn't necessarilly have firm established political opinions of her own yet. I assume she can't vote in this election?

Good luck turning S13GUY or I, we have strong political opinions with good reasoning, not empty beliefs based on what others have told us.

Leave it up to Nielsen to look into it's crystal ball and tell you who's show has the viewers "most likely to have completed 4yr college" (what a joke, only newsworthy stuff over there at CNN these days), then come buy some ocean front Arizona property.

Dude. Listen to Rush Limbaugh on talk radio. THe dude is freaking smart and he knows what he's talking about. If you disagree then just call him and I'm pretty sure he will guide you to the right path or just blast the hell out of you using reasons and facts.^_^. OR Neal Bortz is great too.

First off, Limbaugh is a druggy with an opinion and a radio show, and nothing more. He is no more "educated" or "informed" than you or me, he's just a damn good debater, and that is mostly just because his opponents allow him to intimidate them.

Secondly, it seems pretty sad when our view of people we love and/or respect is altered significantly by their political views. I have my own political opinions, and they are stong and I beleive that they are "right" which really doesn't mean what it sounds like it means. But I'm not going to waste effort trying to convince someone else that my views are "right." If they want to see things their way, its not causing me any trouble. They beleive just as vehemently for their cause as I do for mine. It's just not worth it. What is the payoff? So that they can help me make others feel stupid for THEIR opinions. No. No way. Doesn't matter in the long run. Hell, the decisions made by the next president in office don't matter in the long run. What matters is...well if you can't figure that out, it's no wonder you let your girlfriends political views determine your views of her.

Ah leave it to ilovedrifting to place a misguided soul on the right path. I thought the Ministry of Information of a totalitarian regime would resort to such methods, not an All American Patriot from the US of A!!! We would never do such things to one another, because we live in a free(r) country!! ohnoes the gestapo are a knockin on my door, plebians hide your opinion quick or be swept away!!

for the record im an O'reilly fan, just not a big fan of his politics. He does make sense on other issues i.e. decriminalizing marijuana. And yes, he does get hate mail from the Christian fundamentalists-fanatic-right wingers too.

oh yeah let me tell you i just believe what i hear. If that were true i'd be a kerry supporter like you. Because thats who everyone supports, in my city, wich is highly conservative, i see more and more kerry bumper stickers each day, and all i hear from people is how bush ****ed up the country. I believe what i read from the news

I can be persuaded. I have an open mind on politics. I've been a left liberal, libertarian, and somewhat of a conservative at various points in time.

I'm always willing and able to defend my positions, but if I cant, then I'll reconsider. I've been pro choice, pro life, for and against the death penalty, and for and against foreign wars throughout the last decade. I'm 22 and single and no longer actively involved in politics (thanks to school, which consumes time), so this is an excellent opportunity to take on ideological explorations, since I personally have nothing to lose.

Politics is not religion. Its okay to discuss it and change your mind, as long as youre not running for president and changing your mind repeatedly during your campaign.

If anything, having been on the left or a libertarian or a conservative only makes it easier to carry on a debate, no matter what side I happen to be on. I can predict and understand who it is I am arguing with.

And O'Reilly is hardly fanatical. Hes brutish, rude, and stubborn, but he shares the views of many typical Americans: anti death penalty, pro-war, anti-high tax, in favor of legalized gamb|ing, gay adoption, in favor of the war on drugs... etc etc etc. Hes a mixed bag.

Hint: His one-hour radio show is MUCH better than his television program on Fox. There's less posing for the camera and more thoughtful discussion.

didnt winston churchhill say that if you werent liberal when you are young you are heartless and if your not conservative when your old your brainless? does smoking dope(assumption) have you that fogged up? i can say for sure that it didnt help me any. i felt so intellectual when i questioned "the man". i am 24 now and have been clean for 5 years so it has not been that long. i was no big fan of america or any other country really. it was all "sex, drugs, rock and roll". i guess what im saying is that in an impersonal "over the internet" way, your attitude is reminiscent of my own at one time. things are much clearer when you stop intentionally confusing yourself.
