First, this isn't my car, its my buddies but since he doesn't get on the forums i'm going to start a build thread for it. Between the both of us we've had over 7 ka-t setups in various cars, so boost isn't new but, the rb platform is. He traded his yukon for this car with the swap already being done (saves a little money and a headache). The swap is really clean under the hood but, the car is missing / has a few half a** things done to it. The cage for instances has some pretty shotty welds on it and isn't even really welded in in the back....more like tacked. Here is the list of things it had in the FS add (i narrated a little bit ) and some pictures of her:
Engine:
-RB25DET S2, very low mileage, extremely clean (who really knows how many miles are on it, swap was bought from zerolift)
-All new OEM Nissan Gaskets
-OEM Nissan Water Pump, Timing Belt, Cam Seals, Nismo Thermostat
-Brand new starter from NAPA with a warranty
-Zerolift mount kit (fits like crap and the DSS 1 piece drive shaft doesn't fit with this mount kit, had to be shortened)
-KA Solid replacement mounts
-JGY Customs 10.5 lb. Flywheel
-JGY Customs 4 Puck Clutch Kit (Good for 650hp)
-Z32 Transmission mated to an R32 RB26 Bellhousing
-The Driveshaft Shop custom 1 piece driveshaft
-Stock rear end with a J30 Viscous LSD
-3” Downpipe from the turbo down with divorced wastegate
-4” Straight pipe with a high-flow race muffler on the end
-Joe P manual boost controller, not turned up
-Blitz SS BOV
-Godspeed Intercooler Kit (will be for sale if anyone is interested, same side inlet/outlet intercooler)
-Custom intake, Stock MAF Sensor, K&N Bolt-on Filter
-CX Racing Radiator with dual 12” electric slim fans
-Aluminum Coolant Reservoir
-ISIS Silicone Radiator Hose Kit
-Total Performance Racing custom built catch can
-Walbro Fuel Pump
-Z32 fuel filter
-Inline fuel pressure gauge

Interior:
-Corbeau Non-reclineable buckets with sliders (for sale 600$ obo with rails and sliders)
-Mazworx weld in roll cage (more like tacked in)
-Cheap cd player (that doesn't play cd's...lol)
-J-Rog customs gauge cluster set
-Autometer Phantom Tach with signal adapter
-Autometer Phantom Boost Gauge
-Autometer Phantom Water Temp Gauge
-Autometer Phantom Oil Pressure Gauge
-Autometer Phantom Fuel Level Gauge
-AEM UEGO Wideband
-Battery relocated to the trunk with a brand new Honda Battery
-6000k HID Kit

Suspension:
-Brand new OEM Nissan 5 Lug Hubs
-Nismo extended lug studs
-Brand new OEM J30 Calipers in the front
-Newer OEM Nissan Rotors
-Newer OEM Nissan brake pads
-350z wheels with Bridgestone Potenza tires (for sale 250$ obo with tires)
-Solid tie rod ends
-Solid tension rods

Now my questions as to what i can get out of the rb with X setup. I have two in mind and just want to see if i'm in the general ball park of what each setup is capable of.

1st setup:

Freddy intake manifold
Q45 throttle body
stock turbo
stock turbo manifold
fmic
safc for tuning

300whp setup?????? IIRC you can run the stock turbo up to 13psi before the turbine fan fails, correct?

2nd setup:

Freddy intake manifold
Q45 throttle body
egay top mount
hx35 turbo
fmic
Nistune with maxima ecu
bigger injectors

400whp????

Thanks,
-Nelson

1st setup my friend got 275-278whp out of his @ 12pis, tried to 13psi and got more mid range but the same topend.
2nd setup He has but different turbo and he is too lazy to bring it to the shop to get tuned even tho they are going to do it for free for him. Just don't make sense to me. But ur guess seem to be spot on cold be a little more than 400hp.

Well i talked to the owner last night and laid out the price difference between 300whp and 400whp. For right now we're going to build for 300 and finish off some other things the car will need like wheels and suspension. So for right now the plan is:

Freddy intake manifold
q45 throttle body
FMIC
t3/t70 or a gt3582 (emusa)
38 or 46mm wastegate (emusa)
safc
modified stock turbo manifold (like this one)
Image

With this setup he'll be able to hit 300whp at 12psi or so and if he decides he wants more half way through the season all he'll need to buy is a ecu and injectors. We should be able to do this for around 500$....hope to start ordering parts next week once the z wheels and seats sell.

Just re-use the stock TB as the Q is not needed.

I happen to have some of the parts you are looking for as well... PM or text me.

The Greddy IM is designed to accept the Q45 throttle body so if you keep the stock throttle body, you'll need to run an adapter plate.

Yes, I forgot to mention that, good catch Matt.
I kept the OE TB and made an adapter out of a piece of 1/4" aluminium that I had lying around vs. whatever ridiculous price GReddy wanted for the same thing. I used 2.5" piping and could not see the necessitation for a larger TB.

If you are going with a larger turbo, use the Q45 (90mm) TB, but you don't need to.

Some of the companies on egay include an adaptor plate so you can use the stock TB instead of the q45 guy. Lonestar you'll have pm

Since this setup will only be on the car for one season more than likely, we went with the minimum that would meet the goal. Today he picked up a t3/t4 turbo (.63 a/r), 38mm wastegate, t3 flange (for spacer on stock manifold), and a 5-bolt flange for the DP. Only other thing we'll need is a safc or some other form of piggy back for some slight tuning. Going to leave the stock IM because it looks like a pain to get off and the stocker will be fine for our 300whp goal. Looking for wheels and will more than likely pick some up once the seats sell.

Anyone want a stock (in good condition) rb25 turbo? 200$ obo shipped to the lower 48

A few of the mods you listed are wrong... I bought the engine from jdmtigerjapanese.com, and I built this car. Those photos are stolen from my thread, in my garage and driveway. I sold it to some kid in Colerain, Ohio. He was the one who did all of the half a** work except for the cage. The only reason the cage was in there so the owner before me didn't get kicked off of the track. It ran a 10.9 @ 133 before that engine.

I and the owner know...we found your blog before we bought the car and went through it. Photos are stolen..(breath and take a chill pill)..those are kind of harsh words, they are just pictures of the car before we got it. I never said i took the pics of the car in my driveway in garage did I?

yeah, the kid told us all about the 26 with a 42r or something another on it.

Feel free to let me know whats wrong with the list of mods. We tried to contact u before we bought the car because the kid we bought it from didn't know s*** about it. You'll notice one of the followers of your blog is shaun...we were hoping once we became a follower that we would be able to access some contact info so we could ask about the car.

The guy with the hks coils was acting real sketchy about shipping them so he went with a set of KTS coils instead. Should be here by next week.

sorry for the crappy cell pics. I grabbed these half way through the night yesterday but, around 1:30am she came to life. The fenders need to be rolled before she can come off the jack stands but, other than that and waiting for a power steering line to show up she's ready to go.

Setup:
t3/t4 57trim
38mm gate
safc
12psi
Goal - around 300whp

fenders will be rolled this weekend so the car can come off the jack stands as well as filling the sub frame mounts to help get rid of the horrible wheel hop this thing has. Hopefully i'll be able to post a vid by the end of the weekend of it running or maybe even driving.

let say it makes you think the car has 500whp instead of 300 ....lol.... I dont think he'll do much spinning with 275's on the back once it dries up. Its supposed to warm up sunday/monday so we'll probably take the car out and do some more tweaking on it. Then up goes the boost. We need to find an old plug wire to cut up so we can check the timing on this thing.

went for a drive today with the owner to tweak the safc-neo a little bit. We kept hitting what seems like a fuel cut (boost cut). The car was on 10psi and once we got around 4,200-4,500 the car would cut out and then come back. Do the RB's have a boost cut? I'm guessing the ecu is seeing to high of mafs voltage @ X rpm and cuts fuel? Just want to make sure this is correct before he orders nistune

might do this too before the season starts

My 20 had a weird cut in 4th/5th. My wiring at the 4th gear and 5th gear sensors broke, so the ecu though it was in neutral all the time.

After a period of time, the ecu would cut fuel because it thought it was under too much load in neutral. Reconnected the sensors and no problem.

Try the fix in the thread, sounds like that's closer to your problem though.

I'll look into that. This will hit the "fuel cut" in any gear though. Not sure if this makes a difference or not but, after running the ecu code we found this engine (or at least ecu) is from a 4dr r33 auto. We'll probably cut the wastegate spring in an attempt to get the boost down to around 7psi and see if the cut goes away. It did this when we picked the car up on the way home with the stock turbo on 12psi.

Nistune is installed and woking....maxed out the stock mafs @ 10psi on the t3/t4. Egay intake manifold ordered and next ordering a mafs. IDC is @ 74% so those will be next to be replaced or modded then switch to e85 and lots of boost
