My coupe bit the bullet

been a long time since i've posted in here but have a little story about the death of my altima coupe.

Last night was a horrible night. A buddy called me around 1am this morning because he had a few too many and needed a lift home. I say no problem and head to padre island to pick him up. On the way back from the island i was driving the speed limit (65mph) when out of no where theres a metal light pole in the middle of the road that i couldn't see until i was about 15 feet from it and it was laying accross the freeway which left me no option except to brake and hit it around 45mph. All i can say is thank god we weren't injured because if you look at my car you would have thought somebody died. I'll get some pictures when i go to grab all my personal stuff tomorrow, but i'm 99.9 percent sure it's totaled. my front fascia blew up in a million pieces, my intercooler was crushed, my motor came of it's mounts, both front wheels are sitting around 45 degrees, and i have a tasty air bag burn on my arms. The ironic thing is that i was picking up a drunk friend that knew he had too many to drive and the accident was caused by a heavily drunk lady that crashed into the pole about 30 seconds before i came upon it. Sometime sh*t happens and last night was one of those sometimes. I'll post some pics tomorrow or tuesday to show you guys the damage.

i live in a decent size city and there is no public transportation, and one cab company. Somebody has to drink and drive. Nobody wants to be a DD.

there's a left curve right before i got to where the pole was and with the light being down there was no light on the road. i did see the pole, but had no where to go because it was completely across the road.

damn! i loved your coupe! but the important thing is that you are ok. like others have said, a car can be replaced but a life can not....

if the car is totaled, will you be parting it out? if so, let me know about the side skirts and possibly end caps if you had any.

Sorry to hear about the car, I loved your car. I'm glad you and your friend are okay though, and I hope that lady was dealt with accordingly.

What happened to the car when you hit the pole (if you can remember), did it just hit and stop or did it spin you or something.

Have you thought / decided on the next automobile, and yes please let us know if you're able to part your car out at all (I would love tail lights if that's possible)

I hope you're just playing up to your title there "Sloppy drunk" because people who think like you are why we have accidents.. "Just a couple beers man!" Why drink to begin with? But that's a whole another story.

Nothing irks me like a story about a drunk driver...Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr They should take the drunk's car and throw it in the compactor in case it came out repairable and shred their license. F*king idiots.

had a chance to go check her out today. i hit the pole and went right over the top of it. the damage to the bottom of my car is pretty bad. the front crash bar busted off and frame damage is visible up front. All four tires blew and all four rims are bent. side skirts are history as well as front bumper. amazingly my turbo looks to be in good shape, but i doubt i'll ever see it again. meeting with the adjuster tomorrow to see what is what. the guy at the lot told me i couldn't take pics until i was with the adjuster tomorrow because of a possible criminal investigation with the drunk lady but..... i snuck a shot with my blackberry. Robert, i tried to let the guy let me yank some stuff, but he said i'd have to wait for the adjuster for that too. I'll letcha know manana.can't see most of the damage is this one, but i'll have more tomorrow.

Forget the wheels and skirts, how do the frame rails look as well and cross-members?

Probably totaled in suspension items, but proably very fixable on a buy back.

met with the adjuster today and he wanted to have it taken to the collision center to have it inspected further because he couldn't see under the car enough (as you can see the front under carriage is on the ground). i'll have a final decision on what will happen tomorrow, but the adjuster said my coverage covers all aftermarket modifications which means if they total the car or fix the car - which i doubt they will - i'll be compensated for my upgrades. i've already been looking into the 2010 nismo z's, but the wing would be the 1st thing to go.

Here's a couple shots of the passenger side wheels. They're going to total my car and i'm going to buy it back for something like 1000.00 and slowly put it back together. I'm actually going to make out like a fat cat because they're covering the 8k in turbo build, 1k in custom exhaust, 350 for springs, 1k in bodykit, 1k in paint and install, 3200 for wheel and tire package. endlinks, sway bar, illuminated kick plates, etc. Thank god for great insurance coverage!
