I think every graduating class is full of morons. Mine sure was full of idiots but I dont think anyone should let that get them down. It does not matter how good your school is "supposed" to be! Not everyone is meant to be a doctor or lawyer anyway.

I used to think alot like that and it got me nowhere but picked on, ridiculed and depressed. In college I realized it's ok to have fun, act foolishly, and be popular. So I lifted some weights changed my image and philosophy a bit and bought a sweet 240sx. PRESTO I had some friends and a life.

Life seemed a lot more optimistic to me after that.

However, If i was 18 again I would probably think the speech is sweet. I doubt they will let you recite it though....

As of now I think....... poor poor soul.... :(

you have much to learn grasshopper!

I think you'll find that the real world offers a host of possibilities and perspectives that you have failed to consider.

This speech isn't for me. I know I'm destined for great things. But you guys... seriously, go take a look at a highschool for this graduating year. It's sickening to think that these people will be replacing you. They thought that last year was bad, 60 people did not graduate from last year's class. 60 out of 400. That's 15% of the class.

The statistical prediction for my class is about 80-90 students not graduating. Problem with that is, we only have 307 in our class. that's bewteen 26-30% of our class not graduating. So in all, we scored a C- as a whole. In fact, we don't know if we're going to even have enough people to spell out "2004" while sitting in the stands.

(The follwoing is not a diatribe at you, please understand, but at the current "all must graduate mentality" fostered by Dr feelgood politicians))

So whats wrong with that?I dont get how so many public figures babble about getting everyone graduated it cheapens the degree.

The higher the atrition rate in high school the more the value of the degree.

On this note I also disagree with the libreals positon of "everyone must be able to =go to college"Huh? A Universoity degree is something thats supposed to be open to intellectuals only.

NOw we have invented all these new majors , given them a easy curiculum that any average person who is willing to do the work can handle.

A true University degree must include concepts that are simply beyond the grasp of the average person.

Nearly all the non hard sciences have been affected by this.

Sorry for the rant folks.

no I totally agree with you. People are needing to just feel good for things they haven't done anything for and that is just retarded. Give yourself a pat on the back for nothing! Good job! Now go and become a rocket scientist! Wait, you can't grasp thermal dynamics? Hmm... Here's a book on it that waters down all the concepts, eight months from now you can have a PHD and call yourself a doctor! Yay!

I don't think that's what they mean. In Canada, everyone who has the marks can go to University because tutition is made affordable. But you must have the grades to get in and the degree programs are effing hard. I believe that is the liberal position.

To get a university education here means in many cases that those without financial means are excluded. There are scholarships, grants and busaries, of course but for the above average student who is not poor but perhaps lower middle class, a university education is almost unaffordable. Money shouldn't keep people qualified people from a higher education at a good school.

I think education should be available to anyone who desires it. I don't think it's an absolute necessity to have one. But it has become a standard for society to judge one's competence and abilities by in the workforce. The problem is so many go to college, learn almost nothing, come out with loads of debt and gets a job that could be obtained without a degree. Colleges are supposed to promote and teach people how to think. But I see so many that come out knowing nothing but useless facts.
