I just picked this guy up on the cheap, $800. FL car recently brought up to NY. Guy I bought if from said it overheated, I havent had a chance to fiddle with it yet but snapped some shots when I got it home. Pretty cool and rare set up for the s13s (few Datsun guys have done it, they love their Webers!)

This set up was intended for autocross use, so that's where I'm headed. The carbs, just like the ITB conversion, allows for a much greater throttle response, you get more power and torque down low, basically spin tire as you hit the throttle. Little or no gains up top, so its not a fast car, just a quick one.

Once it warms up here in NY I'm going to have the car painted, chassis is 100% (you NEVER see that up here) Going to swap my dash from my DD, another 91 240 thats uncracked. Just picked up a digital cluster for $50 bucks. Put my current tranny in this guy, the one in it feel loose. Who knows. Puck style clutch is on its way and I should be good to go. I may have time to try and fire this guy up tonight, been so busy lately.

Your radiator seems like it was patched up badly, that's probably why it's overheating. You should check it out.

You're more than welcomed to bud. I'm about a mile from the beach off Lake ave. Hit me up on AIM, schema84, whenever you're in town.

I went out there briefly today to pull the radiator, the clutch fan, the, coolant overflow tank (do they all become brittle like that in the south?) and cleaned up the bay.

Put a battery in it and the engine might be seized. Not sure just yet. I'll take a breaker bar to the crank this weekend. =)

my tanks have the same wear patterns and im in cali, 20 yr old plastic in a hot engine bay is bound to break down sooner or later. just get a gatorade bottle and wrist sweatband and call it a day.

....that was a joke. do replace them properly... any pics of the rest of the car?

damn I know nothing about carbs. I'm wondering if the intake/ carbs are interchangable with the fuel injected ka's all of the sensors are the same on the front. would there be any power gains if it is possible?

i imagine you have to disconnect some of the ECU pins cause your EFI is out the window.... i think the OP mentioned some HP/tq gains... seems cool to me and carbd engines just sound rad to me, coming from my uncle always racing small porsche that were always carb'd... im a fan.

ill be coming back to this thread for updates, so lets get some more pics.... plz?

Eh, the guy didnt take too many pics. didnt get it started, BUT the engine isnt seized, it is getting spark, but doesnt seem to be getting enough gas. I'm gonna find an oldschooler to look at the carbs

this is really interesting for us ka guys...this might be a cheeper way of staying N/A and going the ITB route...can ya find partnumbers for all the hardware and carbs?..i would love to reaserch this and see what it takes to run a close set up to this...and is it possible for you to scower the car to see if its running a standalone or factory ecu?..thanks in advance..

I'll definitely go through the car and what the setup entails, including part numbers of all the components. Untill the weather breaks I can only play with the car here and there. The only time I got out there this weekend I had to pack it up within 15 min, it started pouring :-/ Today it snowed. Good ol NY.

I keep forgetting to check the ECU, which was what I was very interested in before I got the car. I'll try and take a peek tomorrow. I'm still looking for locals that are familiar with the Weber side drafts.I've gotten light "pops" but havent got a full rev on it yet.

I'll keep updating, and once I get this guy running and better understand the system, I'll in turn explain what's going on and hopefully get a few of you aboard

Try setting the idle mixture first. it should be 1 screw for each butterfly(right next to it) on the top of the carb. There might be probs from not having a distributor with any kind of timing curve although i have seen em run with the efi dist. Carbs have been on my s13 for about 8yrs but i hardly drive it, and its a sohc.

Current status: Speculation of low or no compression. Had to pick up a compression tester when i left work today but couldnt use it, had to run to the Black label/Sevendust concert, which was

So when you turn an engine over, before its running on its own, the motor shakes. This is due to compression in the cylinders. This one is damn near still. By myself I couldnt tell if the motor was even turning, but belts/crank pully are spinning away. Also, when I have a ratchet to the crank bolt, its very easy to spin, little to no resistance. It should be easy/hard/easy/hard every time it goes through a compression cycle.

We'll see. I'm scoping out another block now regardless. In time my friends

Shot some oil down the cylinders,

Cyl1- 0psiCyl2- 0psiCyl3- 0psiCyl4- 30psi woo hoo!

Pulled the timing chain cover, everything looks A-ok. Whoever had this car before me did a number on it for sure. So, new block, here I come

Well I posted the results from the compression test yesterday, and now its snowing here in upstate NY.

Once it get nice out (this means 45 for us lol) I'm gonna pull the head to see if there's bent valves.(Edit, this Thursday will be 50 will pull then) If there is, then gonna pick up a new head. If not, then I'm sure I'm in for a surprise to see why I get 0 compression on 3 of the cylinders. Check back Thursday night for sure!
