WELL.....

YESTERDAY I ROLL MY CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE TO GET IT READY FOR TODAY TO TAKE TO EMISSIONS. I'M TESTING EVERYTHING MAKING SURE ITS OK. EVERYTHING WAS WORKING AND RUNNING PERFECT STILL GETTING KINDA TOO HOT FOR MY TASTES BUT IT NEVER GOT OVER 210.

WELL FAST FORWARD TO 4 AM THIS MORNING. I START IT UP TO GO TO WORK AND TEST THE EXHAUST TO SEE IF I'LL EVEN PASS AND I HEAR A LOUD CLINK AND RATTLING..... THE BUSHING ON MY EXHUAST BROKE AND THE BOLT SNAPPED IN HALF SO NOW I HAVE TO GET EXHAUST BUSHINGS AND BOLTS.

THEN I GO TO TURN ON MY HEADLIGHTS (WHICH WERE WORKING LAST NIGHT) THEY DON'T TURN ON..... FRUSTRATED I JUST SHUT THE CAR DOWN BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE CAN GO WRONG AND LOCK IT UP AND DRIVE INTO WORK WITH MY DAD.

ITS JUST ONE BAD OMEN AND ITS LIKE I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO DRIVE THIS THING. EVERYTIME I GO TO GET IT EMISSIONED SOMETHING GOES WRONG/BREAKS. I GUESS I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT OVER NOTHING BUT ITS JUST GETTING TO ME.

Fix the bushing/bolts and headlights... take'er in for emissions... not like your car is 15yrs old or anything. The age factor was one of the reasons I sold my 89 for a 92. No worries...

ITS NOT THAT.... I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT FIXING THESE PROBLEMS BUT ITS JUST EVERYTIME I TURN AROUND ANOTHER PROBLEM ARISES.... I'M JUST GETTING DISCOURAGED. I'VE HAD MY SWAP FOR A YEAR NOW AND ITS FINALLY TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN DRIVE IT ON THE STREET AND EVERYTHING NEEDS TO GO WRONG.

I got a better one for you.

I bought a 87 RX-7 TII, freshly rebuilt motor for $4000!!Drove it to work day 1. Razor blade pushed into the tire dull side first??

New tires, nope don't have that kind, new tires and wheels $1000 (I negotiated)

two weeks goes buy (I was braking in the motor for 500 miles)

minivan runs a light and totals the car on Friday afternoon. I towed it home to realize that I had just cleared the 500 mile mark :)

I got screwed and got 0 money for the damages

3 months later I got a new shell and had the motor/transmission swapped and some upgrades. $1800 Labor, $1000 for the shellboost controller, suspension, injectors, etc.. $4000

two weeks ago I drive it over to the place where I first got the razorblade and locked my keys in the car. The car set running for 3 hours while I got a ride home to get my spare key.

I realized when I got home that the key to my house was hanging on my keychain in my car :(

I punched a whole through my backdoor and got my key.

Moral of this story, I love my car and it is still has had less problems and been more rewarding than 90% of my ex-girlfriends :)

WAIT LET ME TELL YOU THE WHOLE STORY OF THIS CAR:

I FIRST GET THE MOTOR FROM VENUS..... SPUN BEARINGGET SECOND MOTOR.....STRIPPED BARESTART THE INSTALL AND REALIZE THE ORIGINAL MOTOR DIDN'T EVEN HAVE GASKETS ON IT IT WAS ALL SILICONE AND LEAKING LIKE CRAZY.TEAR APART THE INTAKE SIDE AGAIN AND FIX THE LEAK.NOW ITS LEAKING INTO THE RUNNERSGETTING EXTREMELY HOTA BLACK WIDOW NEST IS SOMEWHERE IN THE CARTHE SHIFTER IS ALL MESSED UPMY FRIEND DENTED THE FMIC BEFORE I EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO DRIVE ITI KEEP BLOWING VACUUM HOSESTHE EXHAUST BUSHINGS ARE BROKENTHE HEADLIGHT DON'T WORKTHE SUSPENSION IS OLD AND CLANKINGMY DIFF IS MAKING ALOT OF NOISETHERE IS A INTERIOR RATTLENOW MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW CONTROLS WONT ROLL UP THE PASSENGER SIDE

But just think of how much you have learned by fixing all these problems.

I always think of it this way, as long as 30 minutes of driving is worth 30 hours of labor, then it is worth it. If not, sale that car and get something that is.

The 15 minute drive to work in my TII at 10 PSI and 130mph this morning, makes me forget about all the work it took to get it to this point. That is why I keep the car, and the fact that my wife won't let me sell it, because I have spend so much money on it. :)

ohh and my car is overheating..... It boiled over today at the emissions center, grrrrrr!

so that means I have to go back when I get the problem fixed.

When you get it tested, let us know what the readings are. I'm curious to see.

Sorry about your **** luck.. I've been through that stuff with too many Hondas. Hopefully my RB swap goes well but I figure there should be atleast a few problems to sort out.

man.. ive had mad problems with mine 2...i bought my 240 for 500 buks in compton..the 2nd day i drive the ka motor blew.. i tow it 2 the shop.. over there i expect a sr20det retop swap..my motor never came.. then they tell me they can get me an RB20det clip for 2g.. i wuz like woah lets do that.. they said they would do the swap.. it comes in.. looks pretty ****ty.. but on top of that they cant do the swap any more (oh ya this is all last year around january-march) so now i had a car that wouldnt move and a clip sittin in there shop.. n they were buggin me 2 move it sumwhere else..so then i called all these place 2 move the clip that wuz sitting on a pallet.. no place could do it.. then i getta hold of this guy karim..hes really cool he helps me get it out of there and i decide that i would have sleepers do the swap..they quote me over the phone it would b around 19-2100 so i then have the clip sent out there..and the shop said they would take the car and the clip from La habra to rialto (40mi i think) for 300 buks.. so i said sweet. they go 2 get it, and only get the car.. they couldnt get the clip but they still wanted 2 charge me 300 buks just for drivin out there.. then we go over how much it would cost 2 do the swap.. it ends up being like 3500 in labor alone...so we talk and get it down to 2200..which is afforadable..but then on top of that the owner wants that 300 for his guy 2 drive out there i said fawk that im not payin 300 for nuttin.. he then kicks me out.. but my car n clip is out there.. as im leaving the workers stop me.. n tell me they will do it.. so about a YEAR passess by and i just got my car about a month ago not complete but running.. the guys that did it split from the shop and my car was the last car 2 get done there.. i get it back running like shiet.. cuz i now found out the clip i got was bad.. but it seems like theres nuthing i can do about this.. now i hav no shop 2 complete the work and my motor doesnt even run right..my motor has overheated 5 times now..and since sleepers didnt put a catch tank coolant went allover the place..but not really coolant..they never flushed the original coolant soo its all RUST brown and orange rust..so then i payed 135 buks 2 get my koyo installed that never got installed by sleepers.. they never hooked up my electronics and never installed my lsd and other stuff..they took a year 2 do the work..im still hella pissed about it.i mean the guys r cool n all but they did a ****ty job..my car is runnin like crap n my parents want me 2 get rid of it.. being that its a 89 i have a lot of small problems.. i just replaced the winsheild b/c sum how when it wuz at the shop sum1 cracked it..but no ones knows who did ofcourse...also my wireing harness has been having all these problems..but McKinney said theyll fix it for me so thats cool..but ya.. the intireor looks like crap..my motors been havin so many problems everyday i find a new problem..my brakes are really bad..i need new pads n rotors in teh rear. bad parts: no knock sensor on the motor, low compression, needs new coildpacks,and thats all i know for now.. im workin on things tryin 2 get this baby goin...but its mad head aches

its not you dudeits arizona RB swaps

1) sean's. 10 days after he finished, timing belt tensioner bolt snapped off. valve pizza in the head.

2) kraytons - 1 month after he finished, chipped exhaust wheel on the turbo. car is still down

3) mine - transmission problem that nobody can explain or diagnose. been down for almost 4 weeks.

You boys need to come to Texas. $20 and a six pack will get you past emissions.

kamin I Have a rb20det transmission and ka24e transmission that needs to be assembled I am getting back from aaron.... you are more than wlecome to take it and have it rebuilt or I can have it rebuilt at my job and you just pay the labor from my co-worker......

If it helps a fellow swapper out I'm down for it. Just let me know.

sil820: let me know if I can help.... if it'll make it to az I may be able to help you. I'm sure some of us would help out and get a fellow swapper on their feet.

I took the day off of work so I can diagnose my problems, put in my mounts and hopefully get it running cool enough to test.

or just come a little north to oklahoma where they don't have emissions testing, and even just got rid of regular vehicle inspection a couple years ago.

I HAVE ANOTHER 240SX.... WHICH IS JUST AS BAD JUST KA STYLE!

I'M HAVING A FRIEND BUILD ME A SHROUD AND ADAPTER PLATES FOR A 4 CORE R32 RADIATOR. I'M ALSO GOING TO GET A HIGHER PRESSURE RADIATOR CAP, SWITCHING TO 80/20 DEX-COOL, RUNNING A HIGHER TEMP THERMOSTAT, AND RUNNING NEW DUCTS FOR THE HEATER CORE SO IT'LL ALWAYS BE ON.

AS FOR MY OTHER PROBLEMS I'LL DEAL WITH THOSE AFTER THESE THINGS ARE DONE.

ACTUALLY I'LL BE GOING WITH A KOYO S13 RADIATOR BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T WANT TO SPEND $800 ON A 4 CORE SKYLINE ONE.... THE KOYO SHOULD BE PLENTY EFFECIENT FOR MY SYSTEM IT'LL BE EVEN BETTER WITH A HIGHER THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR CAP.

There are koyo radiators on ebay I see regularly for $300 shipped that are for the KA and would work for the RB..

ITS NOT THE LOCK..... BECAUSE I CAN ROLL THE WINDOW UP FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE. THERE IS EITHER A SHORT OR A LOOSE WIRE. THE PASSENGER WINDOW GOES DOWN ON THE DRIVER SIDE JUST NOT UP.

I DON'T CARE I AM GOING TO GET MANUAL DOORS.

I'M TRYING TO GET MY WEIGHT DOWN TO 2400LBS. ITS ALMOST THERE..... IT USED TO WEIGHT 2680 WITH EVERYTHING IN IT, I'VE TAKEN OUT OVER 150LBS OF STUFF. I STILL HAVE YET TO TAKE OUT ALL THE INSULATION AND CARPET, POWER SEAT BELTS, SWITCH TO MANUAL DOORS, GOTO FIXED HEADLIGHTS, TAKE OUT THE ANTENNA, REMOVE THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER, REPLACE THE SUNROOF WITH FIBERGLASS SHELL, GOTO CF HOOD/HATCH, GET THE FG FENDERS AND BUMPER, AND SWITCH TO A PLATIC FOAM FILLED FUEL CELL. I'M SURE I'LL REACH MY GOAL WHEN ALL SAID AND DONE.

hmm might be interested in that rb20 transmission, ill let you know what happens this weekend. i can rebuild it as long as its not FULLY dissassembled. then i need a shop manual.

It is fully disassembled.... it was torn apart so that the front case could be swapped onto a ka transmission.

I'm getting my koyo from some website I have to find it I have it saved at work.
