welp shes finally done and ready to be dropped in. just waiting to get my flywheel back from being lightened and balanced, and then i can mate the motor and transmission. everything was done by me and only me. the only help i got was from my pops to actually help me maneuver the motor and transmission out of the car once attatched to the hoist, and hell be doing the same when i put it back in. ive been working on it for about a week and a half straight. not full days though as its way too fuking hot down here. even in the garage its still hot as hell. i would do mostly all of the work starting at 6pm and work till i thought i had enough. i know the pics are ****ty, but i was in a hurry so this is what you get.

empty 240 bay. nothing weve seen before.

thanks edub for the very clean snail

nismo rail adapter along with an egr block off i whipped up earlier in like 10 mins. and that braided line is attatched to my oil psi sender just waiting to find a good spot in the bay.

damn im ashamed on how shltty these pics came out. the motor is really really clean. i put a nice coat of gloss black on the block which made a significant difference. this was my first motor build ever, and it was quite fun. id rather do everything myself that way i know its done right, and plus you save money. right now im just gonna break her in for 1k miles or so. put some synthetic in her and boost 1 bar tuned on the afc and itc. that should put me at the 300 wheel mark or higher. when i want more, which i know i will, im gonna upgrade to 740s and an enthalpy ecu.

uhmmm thats a question i dont want to add up. i did every single thing to this motor myself. i checked all the clearances, honed the cylinders, and lapped the valves. the good ol' ka is stout! forgot to add that i have a full felpro gasket set as well. so i replaced every seal in this bltch including valve stem seals. all the actual motor parts i got in one package from AMS which is one of our sponsors. that alone was 1500 or so. the jgs build up kit was 700 minus turbo and wastegate as i sourced those out elsewhere. thanks again edub for the turbo! and i stop here on adding shlt up.

Very good, maybe go over all the new hardware that was used on the installation and retorque them. The heat stretches the bolts so things that used to be really tight arent as much after a few heat cycles.

i hope the you will be able to break in the car with the safc settings i sent you, be careful and change that oil like mad.

thanks homie for those settings! i went by the FSM (the fuking BIBLE!) on the head studs. torqued them fully in sequence, and then totally loosen, then do the sequence again with a bit more ft. lbs. i think ill be good on that. thanks again on the safc lecturing you preacher!

Props on doing this all yourself! Can wait to see some vids of it running. Hint, hint, haha...

Kinda off topic: I've been under the impression that it takes a lot of expensive and specialized tools to assemble a motor. Is this true??

thanks. doesnt really take alot of tools to do a motor. but i did have to go out and by tools that i didnt have. i had to buy a valve spring compressor ($30), valve lapping tool w/compound ($5), cylinder honing device ($30), telescoping bore gauge ($30), plastigauge ($1), 12 pt deep 10mm for the oil squirters ($3), 12pt deep 12 mm for the arp head studs ($4), piston ring compressor ($10), and i think thats about. it was all def worth it though as i know every single nut and bolt on that motor now and how it was done.

thanks for the props fellas. i have a 4psi spring and a 14 psi spring. the 4psi spring is staying in there until i get the motor broke in. i wont be boosting while breaking her in, but the 4psi spring is just an extra precaution incase. once i hit the 1k mile mark, ill be filling her up with amsoil, changing out the 4psi spring to 14 psi, and then driving straight to titan motorsports to have it tuned on the afc and itc. the honing isnt hard at all. as long as you have a drill and some wd40, and good shoulder muscles its cake. just keep the drill at a nice steady lowest speed possible, while moving up and down the cylinder evenly without staying in one spot. the valve cover was also done by me. took a good 6 hours, but it was the first aluminum piece ive ever polished. and yes, when i get her in the car ill def do a nice shoot for all of yall in some sun light so you can actually see how nice it is.

and JGS, awesome work! lance, if youre reading this, i really appreciate the quick send out on the custom 4 bolt downpipe. i highly recommend jgs to anyone. their mani, oil kit, dp are all great! im very glad i went with the jgs kit as the only one single bit of welding i did was the return bung.

quick question, with having a 4psi spring how does that cause you not to boost? just curious on how some of these turbo parts work for future references

i could still boost to 4psi if i wanted, but im only leaving the 4psi spring in there just in case i did happen to boost while breaking her in i wouldnt go above that mark. the wastegate stays shut until it recieves the boost signal from a vacuum line anywhere that sees boost. once it hits that mark, the valve in the wg opens up and dumps out exhaust gas regulating the boost produced by the turbo. you can still drive your car without boosting at all. but theres some instances like getting on the freeway, going up a steep hill, or getting the urge that will lots of times cause boosting.

i went with the spec stage 3 6 puck sprung clutch. and damn is that pressure plate gonna clamp like a mofo! first time i actually had to put all the bolts in for the pressure plate to get it flush mounted with the flywheel. dont worry, i didnt fuk anything up, its the way its designed for max clamping force. this is the one enjuku recommended for 400 ft lbs. as for the flywheel, i had my stock one lightened to 14 lbs 8 oz. they took over 5lbs off and damn it looks really good. ill def be posting pics up after shes up and running. sometime next week.

WTF..?? I called enjuku and they told me they had NO clutch for the ka that would hold 400 ft lbs..!! And to make it worse, they asked me twice how much i was putting down and they didnt believe it was a ka...

Jeez... im so pissed now..!!

hmmm... i always deal with teddy up there and told him what i will be putting down. the one i have is actually rated to 385 ft lbs, but he said i would be good with this one. after looking at the pressure plate, im assured i wont have to change it out for a while. you can always get the one i have and step your flywheel like ivan was talking about. that would def without a doubt hold the power.

MAJOR progress from working on it all day today. got the complete hot pipe/bov side done. started the cold piping/maf side so that wont take long to do tomorrow. ive just been hung up on the second o2 bung in the test pipe. i have a megan racing straight 3'' SS test pipe. when i bought it, it already had a bung in it, so i thought it would be a 2 min job to install the o2. WRONG! my fuking luck, it looks like its for an egt probe WTF?? like thats how big the ID of the bung is, so i couldnt get my o2 in the bish. damn, so i started to drill the hole out bigger one night, which took me all night. then i said fuk it and went to home depot the next day (which was yesterday) to get a real good high dollar bit. i did that and found the perfect size. $10 for one bit. started doing that for 20 mins with no fuking success what so ever. man i was i pissed! so i figured id just get an o2 bung and weld one in up further on the test pipe, and put the plug back in the shlt bung for who knows what. well today i went up to mazworkz for some silicone couplings ($120 worth) and figured theyd most likely have an o2 bung there. when i got there i saw enjukus new coupe for the first time in person even though i go there quite often (to enjuku), and i also got to check out mazworkz 9.2 sec sr powered 240. what a beast! but anyways they had every coupling i needed and the o2 bung so that made me happy. first thing i did when i came home today was drill a hole for the bung (mind you im doing all of this under the car on jackstands cause i was too lazy to take the pipe off) and come to find out the bung i got was way too big. damn was i really pissed then. so then i said fuk it cause the ****ty bung already on the pipe was the size i needed so i cut that fuker off and welded it in the new hole i just drilled. came out perfect. then i started fiddling with the ****ty bung hole (lol no pun what so ever intended, the one on the pipe!) trying to tap it and plug it with a bolt. kept drilling on it with diff bits to get the tap started and nothing wanted to happen FUK. i then again said fuk it again and shouldve done this from the start, so i brought the welder back out again and welded that bish shut. took me 23 secs and everything went good from there. i was just so pissed from being stuck on that damn pipe for the past 2 days. got the driveshaft in, sone other small things and started on the piping. so if i put in a full day tomorrow she may get started. but im not gonna rush it, so most likely monday itll be game day. i still gotta custom mount 3 gauges and wire them up. thats the only big thing left though. shes looking clean!
