Wow.....Havnt posted on here in a good while but two big things
1. Im on coilovers!!
2. i finally got my car on the road!! been working on it for too damn long for a relatively stock build. I ended up going through 3 body harnesses and i bought a new long block cause there was head issues with the rebuilt one i had and i needed a daily asap... but now it runs.. and it runs hard as f***... a litle too hard though, cause the little f*** wants to go past 20psi every time i pass 4k hahaha
(cliff notes on bottom)
So people dont have to go back or ask, my setup for the engine is just a stock t25 (almost new, no shaft play), aftermarket divorced elbow, 3" DP, test pipe, 3" dual n1 catback, some metal intake pipe with ebay filter, FMIC with freddy rs bov, walboro 255lph fuel pump, z32 fuel filter, stock 370cc injectors, stock non adjustable FPR, no boost controller installed, but an adjustable wastegate. and an ebay XTD stage 2 clutch holding the power
I have a prosport boost gauge and an AEM wideband for now to keep an eye on things
I primed the hell out of the new motor before starting it to make sure the oil got everywhere it needed to go, and let it idle for a good while to get all the nasty gas out of the fuel lines before actually driving it. First time i drove the car, after about 10 minutes of calm driving and breaking in the clutch for a few miles and making sure everything was good, i decided to get on it a little bit to see how it feels. 2nd gear WOT, passing 3k the needle just flys up to 6k like nothing, car feels like it has 350hp lol. I definatley wasnt expecting that kind of pull
i wasnt really paying attention to the boost gauge but i saw it go pretty high. so im thinking holy s***, theres no way im on stock boost, i have to atleast be running 12 psi. I get on it again with my eye on the boost gauge, and passing 4k the needle starts making its way tward and past 20psi
The C clip that holds the wastegate arm onto the flap on the turbo keeps popping off, ive put 3 of them on there and they keep going bye bye, so for now i have no clip. But the only way the arm comes off the stub thing on the flap is if you pull it outward, which i dont see how it would happen naturally under boost, but i dont know for sure.
I loosened (made longer) the wastegate arm to limit the boost. I spun it a bunch of times and put it back on, went for a ride to see how much the boost changed. Still pulled hard as f***. Since its boosting higher than it should and im breaking in my new clutch, ive never taken the car past 6.5k yet
When it was on 20psi it would bog or hesitate a little bit at high rpm, and i would have to back off the gas when i passed 5k to avoid that, but on 18psi i could keep it pretty much floored (i back off when the boost gets close to 20psi) and shift at 6k without problems. The car runs rich (11 ish) on WOT in lower-mid rpm, and goes to like 12-13 as the rpms go past 6k. Goes lean after letting off the gas and then goes back to like 14-15 when im cruising. Do these numbers sound healthy? I know its good to be rich when your boosting, and its bad to be lean
The first two days i drove it, the only problem i had was the s*** home depot plumbing coupler i had from the elbow outlet to the hot pipe blew a hole and gave me a boost leak. The car didnt act retarded like it does when the hot pipe pops out of the intercooler, but the turbo spooled really slow and i would hear lous hiss. The turbo also wouldnt go past 10psi, which i guess was a good thing lol
Today i changed the home depot coupler with a 2 inch coupler i had found, which is a lot better material and will do a much better job for now. Sure enough the hiss went away, the turbo spools quicker, and the car was hitting 18psi again, and it runs BOOTIFULLY! I spun the wastegate looser a bunch of times to try to get it down to 14psi, but it ended up staying at 18psi, and after driving it for a while it somehow slowly started going back to 20 psi again... wierd.
Anyways other than this the car runs great and idles smoothley.
Im going to keep trying to adjust the wastegate to limit the boost to 14psi, but its a b**** to keep adjusting it and checking it cause you have to wait for the turbo to cool down every time you want to adjust it, and the only way you can check it is by driving it at WOT and hitting boost
if i cant lock the boost in to 14 or a safe number with the wastegate, i have an ebay manual boost controller i will put in, but id rather use the wastegate so i dont have boost spikes
in the mean time does anybody know why it would be boosting so much? The only thing i can think of is the wastegate vaccum line not being correct. the line goes from the wastegate to my intake pipe, its not T-d off to anything else.
Also whats the most any of you have run on your t25? I know 14psi is supposed to be the safe max, but honestly my car is running hard as hell and pretty well on 18-20psi untill i get up past 6k. Obviously this is not smart if you want longevity, but it feels like it would be safe on 15 or 16psi to go up to the 7k redline without any problems if i get an ajustable FPR.
looking forward to hearing everyones opinions/insight/advice
Sorry for the long post
Cliff Notes:
Car runs, car wants to go past 20psi on stock t25 with adjustable wastegate. Have a walboro fuel pump which is the only thing saving me, since car is not leaning out, but im wondering what to do as far as keeping boost down since adjusting the wastegate doesnt seem to be doing too much and C clips (E clips) on the wastegate keep popping off.
