Just in case you're still thinking you're some sort of "expert":
Oatmealman wrote:I've wheeled a few off road package frontiers and no they can barely do anything because they sit so low.
Really? "So low"? How low is that, exactly?

Over 10" of clearance is plenty unless you're doing rock crawling, which is (to me) boring.
Oatmealman wrote: Sure you raised the pan a few inches but you lost sidewall
Umm, we did? And you know this how?

Actually, smart guy, we didn't raise anything. The overall diameter of these tires is identical to the OEM tires.

So, as usual, you don't know WTF you're talking about.
Oatmealman wrote:which you flexes and gives a better ride
I know how tires work, stupid. I've owned a few 4x4's in my day, including a Suburban that was heavily modded for off-roading.

Using sidewall as a substitute for good suspension is a hillbilly way of thinking.
Oatmealman wrote: so instead of giving a quality ride
Actually, it rides beautiful. Handles better than before too.

Big swamper tires are retarded and handle like crap. Those trucks are a menace on the road...
Oatmealman wrote: when you hit a big pot hole
This is AZ. Not East Bumhump or wherever it is you're from. We don't have potholes. But thanks for worrying about us.
Oatmealman wrote:and a horrible offroad performance.
If you honestly think we'd take this offroading with those wheels, you're more retarded than you were with your previous screen name.

Some could argue why the hell are you messing around with a truck if that's what you want to do, you're trying to make it something its not... just build a baja buggy.
The truck in my sig pic would like a word with you.

The Fronty at the top is a nice street truck. 95% of 4x4 owners never see dirt anyways. There's only a few of us that stretch the capabilities of a stock rig in the dirt, and its not long before the signfiicant mods come.

That said, if it wasn't red, I'd take that little CC in a heartbeat as a daily driver if I didn't already have my Camaro and my bike for that purpose

Oatmeal does have a point on tire sidewall flex in the rocks. It's necessary, and low aspect ratio tires are not ideal offroad due to the ability to easily damage the rims, and the lack of ability to absorb bumps (yes, you need more than suspension to do this). An aired down tire with significant sidewall has greatly increases the footprint in any offroad surface, be it sand, rocks, mud, or snow, increasing traction.

In my years of running the club here in Arizona, and the 9 huge 4x4 events I've put on through Nissan4wheelers, I've picked up on a few things.

Rock crawling "boring"???? c'mon Greg! You've got to be kidding me on that one.

Well if your truck is purpose built for off roading (and driving yourself there), then whatever... but like you said- 95% of trucks never go off road... so why would everyone jack their s*** up sky high? It would be more difficult to get in and out of, as well as put things in the back of it, and would decrease your fuel economy...

Greg said the main purpose of the truck is for towing and hauling s***... that doesn't necessitate a lift... or tires with 14 inches of sidewall...

Nope, I agree. That's a street truck and is being used as such.

Actually sky high isn't that practical for a dedicated off roader either unless all you do is hit the mud pits. A lower center of gravity is much better when you're leaning the truck at 25-30 degrees over obstacles. Believe me, I know exactly how far they can go....and I've been a little farther than that, hence the reason I'm running the exo cage now.

Also, if you're serious about offroading, the IFS is a serious limitation as well. The 2005+ front axles are garbage compared to earlier years. The all aluminum R180 cracks open like an egg under low range torque. There have been dozens of failures on those from guys who actually see trails with their trucks. It befuddles me how Nissan adds 85HP to their trucks between '04 and '05 and runs considerably smaller diffs front and rear than the older trucks.

Which is exactly what I said to hilljack-boy earlier. Uber-lifted trucks are useless off-road. So are 44" tires.

Spent quite a bit of time at the dunes, and drove a lot of purpose-built trucks... Best two I ever drove? A near-stock Samurai with some gear reduction mod (sorry, dunno what it was) and a gutted '84 Toyota.

Both of them outperformed every "monster" truck out there... The Samurai would climb damn near anything idling in low gear, with the driver standing on the seat...

My old Suburban was pretty capable (Rancho RS9000's, Rancho springs, and a mild lift with 35's). I actually have video of me getting it airborne at 40+mph.

Suspension travel is so much more important than ground clearance.

Yes i dredging this thread back up for the purpose of responding to this since i got banned for a good while.44's and good clearance do serve a purpose off road.44's are big yes but they also can run through much more without having too rely so much on flex, and lockers.
The mods to your Sammy were probably a 4:1 t-case gear kit.I don't have 10inches of lift on my jeep. The roof line is 74"s and I'm running 4 inches of suspension lift and i'm getting ready to step up to 42's.The bottom of my frame is 23" and the bottom of my t-case skid plate is 22 from the ground.I wouldn't say that a burbuan with some lift springs and some rancho shocks is heavily modified. heavily modified is rockwells, backhalf, dove nose, dove tail, comp cuts, high line fenders, motor swaps, exo cages.Things that don't just bolt on a vehicle.

As to the frontier.I'm sorry i was a jackass earlier in the thread and douching up becky's birthday thread. The truck looks nice

You can make all the hick jokes you want but i live in an very affluent suburban neighborhood 20 minutes from denver, The reason i build 4 wheelers? because i like to get out and go camping and since i live 25 minutes from the nearest trail i take full advantage of that.Just because i build a 4 wheeler doesn't mean i'm a banjo playing, chew spitin, sister/mom f***, joe dirt, redneck.

You should stop generalizing 4 wheelers into one group, and thinking that because we like to go off road and have fun there that makes us a hick. Look at xrra racing, or king of the hammer racers, or baja racers? Call them hicks? f*** no they are the some of the best drivers in the world and get paid TONS to do it. I could make generalizations about 4 banger, fart cannon, eco box, underpowered cars, and their drivers. But ya know what? I don't. Sure i laugh at the typical honda with 5 inch tip and the different color wing and body kit, who doesn't?

wow, all this over some addons that make truck look nice to the owner. they look sharp btw.

chrome doesn't get you home is true but it looks very nice, any accessory added to a vehicle is preference of the owner be it practical or impractical to someone else. who really gives a f*** if the other person doesn't like it.

DR I'm with you, use the 4WD to the full extent, test the limits, and modify from there. sadly I still have the R180 but working on the D44 :D haven't broke this one... yet. did grenade the one I had in my 720 though.

aside from that, some people on here need to lighten up and take words with a grain of salt. getting POed over something one said against you to get your goat: priceless!

I agree, lets just let this one go. Lets agree to not comment on this any more. This one was done in October of last year and it got brought back up again. Rev, you said it best, old and silly.

The panties. Unbunch them.

I'm from Alabama, dude. Far be it from me to clown on hicks. Settle down. No one said a damn thing about you boinking your sister, and no one generalized 4-wheelers.

I seriously heard banjo music. Could have been a ukelele, though. :gotme

Side note: The wheels in the pics didn't work out, so I'm in the market for some new chrome rollers for Bex's Frontier.

Toothless Mountain, omg I'm cryin'... :rotflmao

...maybe because there's one not too far from my house.

I'm not a fan of the chrome (and I'm usually not) but it's not my car. The owner likes it and it doesn't take anything away from the truck. Whatcha doing with the old wheels Bex? My Xterra could use a spare set of shoes.
