I'm getting the transformation done on May 1st!

My buddy owns a mod shop here in BC and he's willing to undertake this massive project.

Quoted me for $8500.00.. but that's far from final.

I'll post pics.

Call me crazy but I like the Altima better.

Not that theres anything wrong with the G37. Besides, I want a unique car and a RWD Altima Coupe will be just that.

actually if he has the money to waste, then its all goodone and only A/C rear wheel...

ive seen someone do a job like this to an integra, such a clean job-put a type R (or gsr) engine in the TRUNK!! also converted to rearwheel drive

gotta be the best integra out there, rear engine/ rearwheel drive

if anyone wants to see this ask me and il find it

I thought that at first also, but then I saw his response...you gotta appreciate the mod aspect ...

nothing is a waste of money if it's what you want to do... I'm about to put a $4500 stereo system in my car, and if anyone tells me its a waste of money, they can get BOTH middle fingers because IJDGAF!

If you've got money to burn, then burn it how you want to my man, props for being original!!! Usually, the folks that hate the most have the most stock cars!!!

I mean honestly why are people buying brand new cars to do this to? Also your figuring in an engine transformation to right? Not going to make the transversely mounted a/c engine a RWD in its stock position. So your project just jumped up another 3k. Hopefully you have thought this through well and somehow came up with a list where reward outweighs risk, because I can't think of 3 good things that can come from this

This is awesome!!!

I have been talking about wanting to do this as well. I really like the altima coupes but I like rear wheel drive.

This is what I have come up with so far...

3.5 liter 350Z engine and trans, aluminum or carbon fiber driveshaft, 350Z rear differential, racing fuel cell (not sure where the O.E. is located but I'd be surprised if it wasn't in the way.) I would think that most of the rear suspension components could be re-used however the rear hubs would have to be machined for axles obviously. I haven't looked into this but I'm thinking that most of the components on the rear of a Z will bolt up.

My suggestion, find a wrecked Z at a local junk yard and see what you can re-use.

No matter what though good luck with your project!!!

see if u can get sponsers...im sure companies would like a peice of the only known a/c rear wheel.....i mean look at the ones with turbos and they are sponsered up the ying yang..shelll have to wear stickers but heck...once again another car that would deserve to wear stickers! slap a turbo on it and make guys at the track scratch their heads wondering how they got anihilated by a freakin' altima!

What about the transmission and driveshaft tunnel - that are usually non - existant on a FWD vehicle? I believe the AC has a small tunnel now for the exhaust. Also the stock air intake is positioned directly over the FWD transmission. So if you turned the engine long ways (with the transmission towards the rear) - the air intake would be toward the back of the engine.

Wow - so your transformation will begin May 1st. What is the turn-around time? Make sure you factor in some ample time for the un-expected.

Now that I think about it - I seem to recall somenone mentioning that this had been done to an older gen Altima - you might want to try a search.

Let it be clear this is not customization, this is re-engineering and a lot of fabrication.

This is years of research on top of months of installation and unincorporated costs. This is going to be an incredible undertaking. I really see the road ahead with many "blind curves" and "rock slides" in it

would this be eaiser>...rip the exterior shell off a coupe and sit on a 350z frame or better yet a "g" ---it the same thing! instead of rebuilding and moding the frame. engine mounts, suspension, exhaust, engine bay ( the alti is a sdeways mount and the z and g for that matter a front to back i think) suspension, steering as well as everything thats mechanical...but again...ANYTHING can be done....they hacked the iphone 10mins after it was out for christs sake....by a 15 yo none the less....i think a body -frame swap is your best bet...

hahahaha

No, a "body swap" would not be easier. That would take the fabrication hes doing plus the fabrication of a new body on the g35 frame. Which are different lengths btw.

Wow 8500K for that sorry but if I spent 40K Can for my altima coupe for 48500K I am sure I could of walked out of the dealership for a G37 or even better the G37 sport manual, for that price. I would of gotten a 3.7 Litre 330HP beast. If it weren't for warranty issues I would of gone to the states and bought a G37. If you have a 3.5L altima coupe this is just dumb, like it was pointed out for the same price you could get a G37.

The obvious things I would like to point out is first the engine bay is crammed as it is, our engine is actually twisted (its rotated by 90 degrees), look in a G35 or 350Z you will see what I am saying, so to go rear wheel drive you engine will need to be rotated, secondly you are adding more weight by moving adding the drive shaft. Sure you will have a RWD Altima but its not without its minus's.

Can I ask why you want RWD?? I am sure I am gonna get flamed for this, but I have driven a 03 G35 coupe, an 03 350Z coupe, besides the feeling of being pushed and pulled, and drifting (which I don't and sure 99% of us don't) can you honestly tell me that RWD offers more or makes a car more sporty, its not like our cars have torque steer......... Seems like a waste of money.

so u think rebuliding the alti frame, suspension and exhaust lines would be easier?...and what about mounting a drive shaft to a tranverse engine? building the rear frame to support a differential?...the g frame is kind close to the alti frame spacially and layout (the bodies are very similar)...in fact some of the body panels are close...they came from the same place!...

yes I know the differences, the question is to the OP...... is he going to notice the difference?? I mean its his money he can do what ever he likes but I have a feeling this is going to be 8500 not well spent.
