I've seen many 300zx and 1 convertible but when i purchased mines last week i realize it wasnt a convertible but a convertible, CONFUSED HUH!! What do you call this type of convertible, I was gonna replace the canvas but when i looked around they were all 1 piece fold back top. WHICH WONT WORK ON MINES CUZ MINES A 2 PIECE.

Otherwise that, my Z has all the available options and its a twin turbo. any info ,comments on this type lmk, im scratching my head still !

I LIVE IN WISCONSIN AND WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR THERE WAS SNOW ON TOP SO I DIDNT REALIZE IT WAS A 2 PIECE... I HAVE A FEW CARS SO THIS IS GARAGED TILL SPRING SUMMER !!!!!

" is my z rare? limited?, i cannot find any pictures of a convertible like mines.... i no for a fact its not custom because inside the car there is nissan stamp all over the convertible top brackets ! "

What's the VIN? Leave off the last set of numbers, as those are the identifying numbers, but I would like to look up the options by decoding the VIN.

I said in the other thread it looks like a one-off custom, but you say Nissan is stamped all over the bars, so I'm not entirely sure. I've been on here since 2008, and nothing like this has ever popped up. This is cool stuff for sure.

WOW, thats crazy, yeah i'm with Ace, I have never seen one like that and almost sure its a one off even if it is nissan produced. What year is it? give us some details. Also its a TT so that makes it even more WOW since TT Verts were never made AFAIK. I'm really keen to find out more about this, keep us updated. Oh and Welcome.

Also, part numbers for the components for the top, if you can find them. We could look those up, and figure out if it was a custom job done with parts from other Nissans.

This thing is cool, no doubt about that. I'm very intrigued.

That's why I said leave the last set of numbers out. That's what identifies the car. I'm just interested in the "JN1RZ......" portion, not the group of numbers at the end.

However, I really never understood the whole fear of showing license plates online or posting a VIN. Anyone, and I mean literally anyone, can get that information from your car in a parking lot. The VIN is on the dashboard, and the license plate is on the back.

You can't upload videos to this site. You have to use a third-party to host it first, then link to it.

Clever looking 'vert. I'm thinking the original owner had a custom convertible conversion done. It's possible some of those parts were made by Nissan and then modified. I remember Straman used to do convertible conversions years ago for Ferrari (plus other makes) and they had Ferrari logo's all over it.

The retractable rear section design reminds me of the ol' Lancia Beta Zagato but without the fixed pillar.

Nice find. :dblthumb:

The cars from Illinois , I have carfax for it from day 1 , only 1 page and dealer kept .

When the trunk opens it doesn't open as a hatchback , nor is it small like the convertible . If it was custom made it would probably cost more then the car to be made cuz basically the whole rear end needed tobe cut off lol. Sorry for the delay in video , I'm new on here and have 2 jobs

There's no shortage of people willing to spend irrational amounts of money customizing their cars. I mean who hasn't cringed at seeing someone spending $10K+ customizing a $1,500 240sx or Civic. It looks like whoever did this job knew what they were doing, but I'd be surprised if it was done by Nissan.

Yea, this HAS to be custom, but if it's not, I think you just found a gold mine. That thing is AWESOME.

Although... I just had a memory pop in my head. A guy I went to high school with had a Dodge Dakota truck that had a weird convertible top on it and he SWORE it was a super rare factory option.

Ok sorry I'm so late to the party. :)

The "C" means it was a TT from factory,

The "4" means it was originally a 2+0 from the factory.

Also your car is a 1990 model, in 1990 Nissan didn't make the Z32 in a vert style, in 1993 Nissan had released a vert option.

So yes very cool indeed. It is a custom conversion, post some more pics up! Someone did a very very good job and it definitely wasn't cheap.

Not quite. No one is making two paychecks by lowballing the owner of the goods and getting paid by the History Channel for it.

Yet....

I had forgotten about those!
They were reasonably rare (something like 4000 built) but not a factory option. They were done by ASC (same company that did the M30 'vert if I'm not mistaken). Unfortunately, they were all V6 (and even back then the Dakota was midsize, so you really wanted the V8, especially considering how anemic the 3.9 "Magnum" V6 was).

You don't need to shout. (cap lock typing FTL) If you cannot determine who actually made the conversion kits (if it was Nissan, it was likely outsourced), and the fabric is on its last legs, you will simply need to have a replacement top fabricated. There are many firms that do that kind of work. It will obviously cost more than a standard replacement top, but if the frame work underneath is sound, then it should not be too difficult for a craftsman to replace the fabric. Unfortunately, that's sometimes the price you pay for buying something so unusual.
