Just wanted to share my new 350Z SEMA car with a 2JZ Swap.

These are a few pictures of the build of the car showing from the beginning of the build to the completed car.

First we stripped out everything from the engine bay.

Including the the bumper/radiator support. Here is some pictures showing the room the JZ has in the new chassis.Exhaust side.Intake side.Ceramic coated exhaust manifold.

Ceramic coated intake manifold/lower runners and throttle body.

Plenty of room for the turbo.

Intercooler installedNew look, powder coated valve covers, dry carbon spark plug cover and timing gear cover.

Project Mu brakes with Cusco coil overs and upper control arm.The interior was stripped for full audio install and other goodies .

well done

stupid questin #1: why swap in the 2JZ? I mean for the expense and effort involved the VQ could have made the same power for likely less $$ and less effort

stupid question #2: why the Z33? I mean if you have a some special afection for the 2JZ a complete supra could have been bought for less $$

Looks awesome but I'm curious as well, why the swap? What kind of HP are getting?

Swapping to 2jz

I personally would've stayed with the VQ or at least stayed with a Nissan engine.

Overall it turned out pretty nice I think.

SEMA is a whos who of car people so inorder for people to look at your pretty booth and check out your sponcers you need to stand out. So he stood out. It is really simple.

Sick swap it probably ran you 25k in parts alone

Yea I agree compleately but again, it is SEMA

Aftermarket RC injectors will indicate it is making more then stock power...Turbo is a nice size...No Standalone ECU (in the pictures)

I would guess any where from 450hp - 650hp But you never know

I understand the car was built for sema, that doesn't answer the questions, you could weld a yugo front clip to the car to make it dofferent that doesn't explain the logic for why one would choose to put a yugo front end on a z

Ok let me answer some of your question!

OK for starters Tech2motorsorts/2jzswap.com, the people who specialize in swapping 2jz's into 240sx and FD RX7's now offer this swap so I jumped on it.

You have to get the taillights from Japan

I had to install the amp in the rear like that, all the audio was sponsored and was placed as they wanted it.

Well the 2JZ was a cheaper solution for my power needs, here's what I was looking at for the VQ:

Greddy twin turbo kit 8455 (Turbo-Kits.com)650cc injectors, Walbro, Emanage Ultimate 1995Built short block 8.6comp 4495Stage 1 heads 1095 EA.HKS Carbon Ti 1695ACT Extreme clutch HD 770ACT light flywheel 494Custom drive shaft 395Koyo Rad, FLEX-A-LITES 800

Total in parts 22,938.89 after tax No installation labor added.

Now for the reason why I chose the 2JZ...

Full Motor set with auto 2200Head port 650HKS 264 cams 550 EA.HKS Head gasket 380ARP studs 110

Turbonetics T64 1600T4 Manifold 495

Custom 3" DP Y-pipe HKS exhaust 1695

RC 650cc HKS VPC Bchip GCC rev.2 1600

Custom Rad 650 Flexs 280

Custom Intercooler kit 650

Wiring Service 550

Swap kit 2200

Grand total 14557.25 after tax No labor added.

Dyno'd on pump gas 512whp 18psi on race gas 21psi 639whp

For so much less than building a VQ to handle this much power daily would cost so much more. Parts for the 2JZ are so much cheaper and the motor stock can handle 700hp before building the bottom end!

Obviously I did my research and to achieve this power level with the VQ you have to drop some serious coin. Or just break your ****.

I really appreciate all the compliments! And all the input!

I chose to do this with my Z because a TT Supra still runs over 20k or more for this power level... and I just love my Z

Hmm putting a Hugo clip on a Z33 would be really ugly but an engine isn't astethics so you can get away with any swap really.

I have seen an SR20 Z33...I know it is a dumb swap but I still went to the booth because of curiosity. But I think my logic was an acceptable answer but you know how it goes "to each his own" and "IMO" blah blahWhat other swap could of been done?

LS would of been nice?SR, RB, Nissan V8? Been there done that so I feel the 2J was a breath of fresh air

So is the price:Total in parts 22,938.89 after tax No installation labor added + Grand total 14557.25 after tax No labor added?

PS I hope your next project is a VQ35 Toyota Supra

twojayzee ftw

amazing motors. id love to have a LSx or 2JZGTE 350Z!!!! thats so sick. i loved my 350Z but the VQ isnt the best motor if you want to make 450+whp and not spend 30 grand doing it.

no the 23k for the VQ build to handle 650hp

15k was for the 2JZ build. Just a comparison to show the cost effectiveness.

LOL Now only if I had a donor Supra... maybe just maybe... wait nah I would still stick with a 2JZ!

Thanks for the comments!!!!!!!!

was that just parts or labor and machine work included?

so if unless you got a 100% sponsorship on labor pulling the motor and all the machine work everything would have been like 30k-ish

I see your logic but that whp could be reached for far less with the VQ than your total, even with the same parts, for instance Z1 sells that greddy kit for 2 grand less than your list, and the greddy like many high end kits includes injectors and managmanet in the kit, a large single turbo kit with a large single turbo, pistons, rods, headgaskets and headstuds, injecotrs and managment, all could have been handled for far less than the 2JZ swap

and I don't think the Z can get enough traction to warrant a sustom driveshaft for the VQ the stocker should hold up just fine

and of course in a real world scenario the labor cost on the 2JZ would be higher but then you'd also be able to sell of your VQ to offset the cost

The cheap greddy kit is only good for 100hp over stock, so 400hp, on pump its 500hp with the 2jz. Even going cheap on everything for the VQ it would still be more than the 2JZ... for a completely stock 2JZ swap its <10k

Really no matter how you cut it getting the VQ to the same power level of a 2JZ will cost you more than swapping it in..... besides high HP VQs have cooling issues, you just don't see that with the 2JZ.

The stock drive shaft is made of carbon fiber, its meant to twist with the torque of the motor, problem is I cant take to much abuse over 500whp. So I just eliminated the problem.

Labor cost on putting in a twin turbo or single turbo kit on a VQ is a night mare.... The manifolds are a PITA to get to with the engine in the car... taking it out it just easier but more timely.

The 2JZ swap is straight bolt in and was out with the VQ and in with the 2JZ in a weekend! So realistically the labor is not more than doing a turbo setup on a Z, especially if you build the motor to handle more than 500HP.

I'm not saying its the best engine out there either guys, I just love my Z and I love the 2JZ so I brought them together!
