Well since 5/15 working on it, I did it. Pretty much myself. I started it tonight and it runs. Idles around 1050 rpm according to the RSM. Just need to hook up the boost solenoid valve.

Pretty tired. Good night.

Congrats! How hard was the wiring? And which motor mounts did you use?

Thanks!

Wiring was easy since I studied the diagrams a bunch and had everything labeled. Still need to wire my autometer guages and a few more. I am trying to keep my KA dash temp gauge and check engine light. Still not sure if those will work.

I am using McKinney mounts. Having issues with the down pipe. I am using a custom one and I have it notched by a wel shop. It still hits though. Also my sway bars are hitting the oil pan. I will try to place some washers and see if that will help.

I took out everything such as AC, PS, and now the windshield reservoir since it will interfere with my IC piping.

I cut the throttle cable on purpose to extend it but I cut it wrong. Went to every shops trying to get one but couldn't get/order one. Was about to go to the junk yards and pick one up but went to a bike shop and got the brake cables and housing. Works great.

I'm sure I will have more issues. I barely took some videos since I was pretty much the only one working on the car. I will take more pics before I place the bumper and hood.

Which diagrams specifically did you study the most? I'm really interested in doing the swap myself as well in a month or so.

Hey, xjon...get ahold of me and I will help you out with the CEL and the temp gauge!

You will need to swap sensors if you plan on using the KA gauges, the RB25 sensor is a different signal and it will LOOK like its overheating all the time.

Rb25det wiring diagram is what I studied the most.

Steering with no PS is not so bad. I just didn't want to have anymore hassles with the engine. I just needed to get it running so I could get to work. I threw all the PS and AC stuff out. I know sometime next year I will be looking at the junk yards to gather the pieces for these luxury items.

Tell you what, I haven't driven it hard but it runs great. Feels good on the freeway. No regrets so far. Then again we are not in the middle of a heat wave in So Cal.

Hey is it much easier to do the swap in a 91+ 240sx or is it the same with a 89-90?

btw, i just noticed you're in mission viejo which is way cool. Do you make it out to the albert taco meets on the weekends? Sometimes they got some cool people showing up. I used to drop by there but no one wants to go anymore.

No never been to albert tacos. Always been loyal to the original "Alberto's" but maybe I will try it since there is no Alberto's around.

Don't know about the 89-90 swaps. My 93 is the very first one I've ever done.

albert taco's is actually quite cool, 24hrs. You can sit inside or outside at 3am or 4am, it dont matter. The food was great, especially the carne asada fries or chicken fries. *droool* Lot of fast cars used to gather at albert taco's. I don't know about now.

can anyone else chime in here and compare rb25det swap difficulties for a 89-90 s13 vs 91+ s13?

Just an update. Everything is going smooth. Engine running strong. Finally got some more wiring up and running. The fuel gauge and the temp gauge.

I heard for the temp gauge (using the KA cluster) to swap the temp sensor of the RB to the one that came with the KA since it will show that it is overheating. Well I am running that set-up (KA cluster and RB temp sensor) and it seems to be working okay (not "over heating"). I drove maybe 2 miles to get to the freeway and it didn't move. Got on the freeway and it started creeping up very slowly. Half way to work and it was showing a bit higher than half on the gauge. Got off the freeway and it went down to less a bit less than half. Seems to be the opposite with me, don't you think?

Still cant get the speedo working. Running with RSM tach only. Now my KA tach works but shows 3k when my RSM showing around 900-1k. I already opened up the gauge cluster, found the dial and turned it counter clockwise all the way. Maybe I will try going clockwise all the way.

BTW, my computer at home died so any suggestions/questions I can't answer till Wednesday.

Quick update: 19 mpg and that is running it hard. Got it up to 131mph (not maxed out). That is measured with a gps.

Sorry no pics or vids. Computer at home is dead.

Did you ever get the wiring figured out for the speedo? I tried to call you back but I got your machine, I think....

It's awesome that you got it running, I am really glad to hear of another on the road.

How much fun is that motor???

Figured out the speedo wires. I was searching for the wires under the dash but it was right next to it at the engine bay. Next to the fuse box. I got it hooked up and checked it with the GPS. Problem is the RSM is way off. Even adjusting the tire size on the rsm it is still way off. The speedo however is close to the GPS. Only catch is that it needs to be in KM/H. When it is on MPH then it is way off. But KMh then it is off by 10 around 30-70.

Thanks Jon

Motor- keeps me grinning. I can't find anybody to race me yet.

Good luck guys. Wiring was actually easy for me. I would have some sort of write-up to help with the eight step but I can't post it since my home computer is down. And I don't have enough time at work to re-type it.

Took me 5 days of hard work (alone) to get it going. It was all fun though. When it was getting to me I would take a break. Get this, I actually hurt my neck. Woke up wrong a few days before the swap and had a pain in my neck. I should have rested it but instead wrenched on my car. Well it just aggravated my neck. Had to take a few more days from work to rest it.

Anyways, good luck and just have fun with it. For the first day, I had the guys at work come by to help. Well they knew nothing about cars so instead they just bar-b-qued some carne asada's and drank beer. It was fun. Of course, I was working on my car the whole time.

yeah s14 wiring is a little harder but after studying it all and talking to Jon Powell a lot it shouldn't be hard at all... it just seems very daunting at first...

I got mine from megala or skylinesdownunder. I found one and loaded it into my computer. Problem is that you will drive yourself nuts going left, right , up and down. So then you send it to imagestation.com or ofoto.com like you would a picture. Then order it like you would an enlarged picture. I ordered the largest which is like poster size. Around $20. It came out great, legible, etc. Made life easier for me.

Got my *** spanked by a 5.0 Saleen Mustang. From 90- 130 mph. He pulled hard up to about 4-5 car lengths and then I just kept up with him but never gained on him. We were still gaining speed until we caught up to traffic. Max speed was 133 mph.

Also I spanked a late model Prelude. We were also up to 130's but I left him like the mustang left me.

Oh yeah we were at an Oval track somewhere over there.
