my 240sx ford 302 engine changes (lots of pics)

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

i think engine came from a ford cougar 87 but maybe it was swaped too. water pump came with engine and its aluminum and custom too. timing cover came with the old style for mechanical fuel pump but i swaped to a newer one last december bacause i dont run mechanical fuel pump.

some engines 5.0 HO came with a small water pump and maybe u will not need any custom part.

i removed alot more stuff. theres alot of wiring that is not needed. i also removed the blower motor, heater core and all the crap from underneath the dash. removed my cruise control crap. going to try moving the fuse box off to the side so its away from the motor when its done. will get more pics later today. maik do you have a pic of your engine bay with your motor in it? like the whole engine bay? did you dent your trans tunnel or cut it out?

u can see alot of engine bay in de video in youtube... and for the trans tunnel it isnt dent o cut. its stock !!! if u want a fit , engine must be upper and tranny a little down but it is good to dent in the trans tunnel for better fitment.

so what year and vehicle did you look up for when you got that water pump? and what are those engine mounts from? also. is your oil pan the frontt and rear sump? ill take a pic of my pan. my pan has a little sump up front and a big one in back. thats why i asked. that may also be why my motor will sit so far back compared to yours. you should try to get a new pic of your engine mounts with the motor bolted in. i think that would help alot of people as well. i think more people would buy mounts instead of getting custom ones fabbed.

well the pics with the oil pan, i have the motor resting on the cross member. the engine block is up against the fire wall and the rear sump is up to the rack & pinion. i have to get an older ford oil pan like you have that is only front sump. my mounts will be done on monday. once my mounts are made, im going to start putting the heads and intake back together. i will than do my wiring and figure out where im going to run my harness through the firewall. after that i will bolt up my trans and get my trans mount made. after that i will measure for my drive shaft off to another friend so he can cut and weld it. than he is going to balance it. thans its all coming back out and im removing more crap from the engine bay and painting it. monday or tuesday i will have more updates.

Hello, just wondering....If you use the double sump oil pan from the mustang 5.0 and hammer in the firewall about an inch, would there be any clearance problems wth just setting the oil pan right over the crossmember?

im refering to the pic that nookie2692000 posted showing the double sump, i would probably make a new sway bar in the front.

Thanks, Andy

p.s. keep this thread going. need more info and pics

no.. my oil pan if from a truck. it was modded in the back to fit crossmember. i dont know how much right engine will fit with 2 sump oil pan.

i dont hammer firewall and engine sits very well.

another thing is im running a oem sway bar with a little of mod.

the black line show how i cut the sway bar... after cut in this 2 spots i take some measurements and resolder in the new position. my original problem with this was because sway bar was hitting the carter wall then driving... i remember the clearance was about .5 centimeters... i never can put my finger between sway bar and carter. the other problem is if u have clearance between swaybar and damper. i had to much clearance between this 2, so i made the cut and paste. if u dont have too much clearance this dont work to you.

and u will have this....

look at oilpan clearance !!!

By looking at the position of nookie2692000's engine in where it sits up against the firewall, and looking at the pics of the oil pan, hes using the mustang oil pan from the looks of it, or at least the same pan. it appears that there is abou an 1" or so gap from the front of the pan sum to the crossmember, so this is why i was thinking that if the firewall was punched in about an inch, the whole system would slide back, this would allow you to use the stock oil pan with no mods, and just smash in the firewall and trans tunnel.

What ya think?

hopefully he will chime in and give some advice. i found some nice universal mounts for the 302 on a side called Progressive Automotive, the mounts are $225.00 for the pair, but all you need is to cut and weld, similar to just making the whole thing youself. but a little lest involved with a better result hopefully.

In the end i would like to have a kit explaining what i did, and you could buy parts from me to make it, that would be the optimal choice, but if i start modifying the firewall and trans tunnel, most people will be scared off just by that. but if i can build one and have it run and drive for a while, hopefully it will inspire me to build a kit easier to install. But thanks for your replys, its nice to get feedback on stuff
