I've driven both cars...sort of...and definitely, absolutely, without question prefer the G.
Granted, the Mustang I drove was a V6 auto, but it would take FAR more than more power and a manual transmission to bring the Mustang into the G35's realm.
The G is a much more refined car (and I don't just mean luxurious, I mean "not sloppy"). It feels tighter and communicates more to the driver. In contrast, the Mustang felt universally cheap. There was very little communication to the driver, and what the car did tell me was dulled through numb steering and pedal feel.Where the G was wonderfully obedient and went where I pointed it, driving the Mustang was like a tug-of-war. The car doesn't go where you point it...everything you do feels numb and delayed. The Mustang also understeers horribly (might be addressed in the GT...). The Mustang drives like it a much larger car than it is.
Aside from performance, there's the matter of build quality. The interior of the Mustang reminded me of one thing: Power Wheels toys. The interior of the G is MUCH nicer. While it's not on par with the rest of the Infiniti lineup as far as luxury, it IS attractive, well put-together, and well thought out. It is far more pleasant to look at than the Mustang's. Also, the Mustang has a lot of "for the sake of being nostalgic" crap that ends up being in the way...the way the dash flares back and up is irritating.
(I didn't realize you were referring to a member by name and not the car itself, but I'll leave this in here anyway)There is no SVT version of the '05+ Mustang. There IS the Cobra, though. But you won't be getting a Cobra for anywhere NEAR the price of a G (especially a used '05 G). The new Cobras (which are new '07 models, so you won't find any used '05s) are selling easily for $10k over their $40k MSRP. And from what I've read of them (never driven one) they're pretty disappointing...even ignoring the already ridiculous price point. The Cobra STILL handles like crap, and still has dull controls.
I'm a musclecar guy at heart, and I love big, rumbly V8s. But no amount of big, rumbly V8 will ever make the Mustang (at least in it's current iteration) as fun to drive as the G35.
One counterpoint I have to the above is that, at 6'4" I was VERY VERY thin on head room in the G35 (in the passenger seat my head actually touches the ceiling, fortunately the driver seat can be lowered a bit). In the Mustang I had plenty of head room.
