Music Box Playback Operation - Search Albums/Artists only in Park?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

With only 2 days of ownership under my belt, I am still trying to figure out all the nuances of the EX35. My wife downloaded all her albums into the MusicBox and they play back fine. We tried to search through the albums and artists while driving but the the "search albums" and "search artists" choices were greyed out. Only when the the car is in park can you search through the albums and artists. Is this the way it works? Sort of like the Nav and not being able to add or scan destinations using the scroll/screen buttons unless the car is parked.

Anyone else have this experience?

I'm still trying to figure out all the nuances of the music box, so hopefully someone can jump in on this one!

Tell me about it. BTW: Did you leave the car in Accessory while burning all the CD's?

Funny how the music box works. When you are playing the CD it is buring, it takes about 3-5 songs to play and then the CD is finished recording. Why can't we burn a CD without playing the songs first. Also, it take like 15 minutes to burn one CD. I have like 300 to do. I guess, I won't be doing all of them. With XM who needs all those CD's anyway.

How are you dealing with this music box?

Welcome to the club Yellowbear, Nice name.

I just read the music box manual. There is nothing in there that states it can only be searchable while in park. Am I missing it? If, so this sucks. I will have to check this out. I am currently burning all my CD's now.

I'll try it again but some of the search features I believe are not available when driving. We downloaded 10-12 CDs. The manual isn't too clear in this area. I haven't found a way to search for albums or artists using the steering wheel controls either. You can scroll through an album's songs but not through albums. It would be nice to down load 100 or so albums and be able to scroll through them using the steering wheel controls.

I wonder if the voice activation system can be used.......

You don't have to listen to the songs - select any audio source while it's ripping. Here are some past related threads: zerothread?id=362305http://forums.nicoc ... ?id=340800

Actually, you just can't access search while you're moving. If you're stopped at a light (even while in gear), these options will un-grey.

This is part of Infiniti's "big brother" design, aimed at a) protecting you against yourself and b) protecting themselves against lawsuits launched by idiots who insist on blaming others for their own mistakes whenever possible.

It's the same behaviour inherent in other functions through the touchscreen related to Navigation, Telephone or alteration of vehicle settings. This modification will help:zer...rride

We just bought an 08 Pathfinder LE with Nav and the music box, it really sucks that you can't search while moving. Like others have mentioned the box sounds good in print but is ridiculous in its implementation. Same way with the Nav restrictions, I have an 06 M45 with Nav so I'm used to the BS I haven't messed with it yet but I've read through alot of threads about it, too bad there's not an easy fix without having to gut the console to get to the wiring. But I did find this thread, maybe it's the same for the Pathfinders.zerothread/301458
