The sticker averages say 19 city and 26 highway for a 3.5 CVT.

It really depends on how you drive your car - do you leadfoot a lot, do you do a lot of stop and go, etc...Just because you get 20 average MPG doesn't mean anything is wrong. I get about 24 with my 3.5, but I try to drive it conservatively to save on gas.

let be honest here,

what would you regret more,

spending a few extra bucks at the gas pump?

or buying a 2.5?

also, say you now buy a 4 cylinder and you want to modify it, you will have to spend a ton o' money to get the 2.5 up to the performance of the 3.5, now instead buy the V6 , you wont have to modify it because it already has the power, so you will save a ton o' money which can be used to buy yourself a number of tanks of gas and a nice exhaust, also the fuel mileage numbers between the two arent that different, so in short buy the V6

I don't drive like a maniac usually but when i feel like pushing i push. I dunno it seems like my fellow 3.5ers may be fudging the numbers a lil

No fudging here !

But what might account for the wide array mpg variance is how oftenyou hit the reset on the mileage/mpg indicator.

Once it's reset, the averages will be a little skewed since it's calculating on a smaller driving distance.

So after some extensive reasearch, i have found the solution to all of our gas problems - convert your car to run on water!

http://www.runyourcarwithwater.com/

Sorry, this was too good to pass up. If this was the solution to getting better gas mileage, I think every auto company in the world would have done this already.

On real gas mileage talk, I used to drive similar to the way you did Sarcanglk and would get the same thing - around 20 to 21 mpg. Pushing it a few times a day can lead to that decrease...but i can't say for sure as everyone has different driving styles.

Probably best to actually calculate based off of gallons put in and miles driven. I've been recording my actual mileage since I bought the car. I've got a 3.5 with a 6MT. My worst tank was 19.3 and my best 25.6. It's mostly highway driving (but there's always traffic on my evening commute). I noticed my mileage went up after I got a speeding ticket (because I slowed from 80+ to about 75). Every single one of my tanks has had some spirited acceleration (it's impossible to not run the 6 speed through its paces) and I definitely don't drive slow. In fact, the cop almost nailed me for reckless driving...

hmmm seems like the trip counter on our cars are not accurate? Maybe I am driving too fast on the highway... Anyway I miss the days when gas was 85 cents a gallon in Jersey ($17 fill ups)

Yea you can take pics but there is no way to prove what you were driving(city vs. highway). Plus you can make your dash say 60mpg if you wanted...(reset trip computer when driving down hill on highway). Bottom line sometimes I miss the one good thing about my civic which got me around 35 mpg on average...

I average 23-24 MPG (combination city/highway) with my 3.5 CVT. That's without really putting my foot into it. I recently took a 475 mile road-trip from Virginia to Massachusetts and believe it or not, I got over 29 MPG. That was with no traffic and the cruise control set at 65, a bit boring but I was experimenting to see how many miles I could get out of it. I actually made it all the way on a full tank! On the way back I did 70-75 most of the way and got 27MPG. I was really impressed with the 29 MPG I got on the way up, especially since the car is rated at 26 MPG Highway. It had about 3,000 miles on it at the time.

Yeah...but didn't you say you keep it mostly in manaul? That wouldreally change things.

The CVT in auto gets better milage than a CVT in manual, or a MT.

2.5s. The trip computer is saying im averaging 32mpg at 45mph. This is 40% city and 60% highway.

When i drive on straight highway at 65 cruise control (no hills) the car says i get 38mpg. Not sure if i believe it so i am doing the trip a + gas bill test to figure out if its true. Gonna wait 1,000 miles and do the math to see what the real average is.

I will tell you the same thing i told my brother, if you gonna get the v6 altima coupe i will pay you the minimal difference if you get the 350z, your gas bill gonna be the same. I cant pay you the difference lol but you will probably thank me anyways hehe.

Mine has <2000 miles so I may gain a mpg or two over the next couple of thousand miles.

I'm a little jealous if other 3.5ers are getting >20 in the city.

What will skew my results now is the application of RE30s. I just put them on and they weight about 5.5lbs less per wheel/tire than factory. Tires are off by -1.3% (hardly a difference), but I'm hoping that will better mpg for me.

I live in a city of about 100k population. No on ramps for a temporary boost to mpg or anything. Just stoplight after stoplight. Maybe that's why I hover at 18-19mpg city.

Mang I applaud your patience whenever I try to "max out" my MPG by driving with cruise I always get bored and abort my attempt.

I've been keeping careful track of it on my 2.5 CVT. The trip computer says 31.0 average over the life of the car (5K miles). Using gallons and mileage at each fill up I'm actually averaging 30.29 mpg. I have about 70% highway, 30% city.

OK I am convinced there was no fudging of numbers. This weekend I was driving to Jersey and decided to not go past 70 and I averaged 26MPG. Sorry for witch hunt accusations

See these sound like much more real numbers to me. I keep reading these "24-28 mpg city" and laugh. Maybe their "city" is really super-suberbia where they have 1 stop light in the town, but I live in Brooklyn and commute all over NYC, and this is real "City" driving. Stop lights that constantly stop you every block cuz they're timed, etc...

I get 17-19 City depending on my lead foot which is usually heavy because I can't stand these people who roll all the way through the intersection after a green light and then once they're through finally start to accelerate.
