I have been out of the nest for about a year and a half, I bought a house for about 2k. (first time home owner). As for furniture I got alot of hand me downs from friends and family.

Its hard at first but you will get use to it and its all worth it when its said and done.

Its alot harder to build a car, you see all your extra cash go into the cost of living

$80k for a house is still good in today's market .

Buying a house is much smarter then renting an apartment. When you rent an apartment, you are literally giving that money away. You don't ever own the apartment. Whereas a hous, you own that

Not weird. I like a regular grill myself. I just don't see the point of having a grill that basically fries your food. Why not just put it on the stove?

And if you like the Foreman grill for health reasons, that's just stupid. I like my fat with a side order of steak . Yummy, fat.

Um....I'm sorry I like to eat healthy. And the Foreman lets you cook food quickly and still allows it to be healthy. If you live in an apartment, you can exactly have a BBQ grill in your living room. And if your a busy person, you don't have time to be cooking for an hour or more. The Foreman is just awesome for a busy, health concious person.

And about sleeping on a roll of foam, god man, break down and spend the money on a bed. What girl is going to want to come over and sleep on a damn piece of foam, none I know. You need to spend the money on a good mattress, so you get a good nights sleep. I'd rather spend the money for quality that I will benefit from, then suffer because I'm a cheap arse.

Good luck with the new move! Hope everything goes smoothly for you. I've been outta the house for 4 years now. Here's some advice:

Don't skimp on a bed. I did and it broke last year and I went out and bought the bed I was originally looking at 3 years ago. So I basically wasted $150. A bed may not be important to some people, but don't skimp on the things important to you.

Also, if you like to eat healthy, I HIGHLY recommend buying Skillet Sensations. They take about 10 minutes to make and all you do is open the bag, dump it in a skillet and stir it twice. The meals taste great and you can find them on sale for about 2 bucks each. They're also big enough to last you 2 meals.

I'll have to look into those Skillet Sensations things.....sound like a good idea on nights when I don't feel like cooking.

I just moved from NJ to Florida about 3 months ago, cost me about $3 grand total...that includes fuel expense for driving 2 cars down, a new bed, airfare for flying back to get the S13, etc.

My room is so bare of any furniture, it could almost pass as a solitary confinement cell.

But being on your own rocks...never go back to the "womb" again.

I rent a house, wouldn't move back in with the rents for anything.

I wish I could find a house for $80k, lol. Around here "starter homes" are more like $350k, which is why everyone just gets condos (now it's even hard to find a sub-$200k 1-bedroom condo).

And it still isn't remotely bad compared to NYC apartments or houses in Cali.

Just get roommates. I've got 2, and we get along. The more roommates you have, the cheaper your living expenses are going to be.

Tell that to the designers/owners of those thraputic Memory foam Matress.

Also, I have a $600 pillow top matress. One side is kind of soft, the other side is a little stiffer. I prefer the stiff side, but No matter what, I would still sleep on the floor if I had to.

Oh, and if you don't like the Foam idea, try nice thick 1.5 inch carpeting, backed by a piece of 1inch carpet padding. Havn't you ever fallen asleep while laying on the floor/carpet? Or do you always sit on furniture? I actually prefer to sit on the floor if there is nice carpeting on it.

Do you rent to own? Around here, you can rent to own a 1500~2500 square foot house for about $1000~$1500 a month. It is about twice as much as an apartment, but you get alot of space, and you will actually have something to show for all the money you spent renting, when you pay off the house.

You must be on drugs. I'm sorry kid but I don't see Brett sleeping on a piece of foam or carpet. I'm sure he's getting a good laugh out of it though so it did have some value.
