I just had my 5/16 plenum spacer made by Motordyne installed into my 350z and here's what I have.

She's definately jumpier and there is a increase in pull from 2500rpms to 4000rpms. Along with my borla catback and injen CAI, the sound of my ride has definately changed and has a much beefier sound. Motordyne has claimed a 10-12hp gain, I'm gonna go with a conservative 7-8hp at 2500rpm to 4000rpm. Had the work done here in southern Cal at Super Autobacs in Garden Grove. Labor was 4 hrs, something I thought really shouldn't have taken that long but its done and installed. There also seems to be a little more HP @5th gear that seems to have been freed up a little. My only regret is I diddnt get the MREV2 lower collecter and the.mechanic stated that if I did that in the future id probly wanna replace the spacer with a new one.

Overall, I'm moderately satisfied with the product.

wow thats funny, i have almost the same setup, borla exhaust, injen cai. But i have the full kenetix upper plenum, and im runnning cat-less!

If you want to hear one of the nicest sounding z's out there, its a catless borla setup.

By cat-less, i mean i am running test pipes (no catalytic converters)

Also, The Borla exhaust is pretty much a true duel system with exeption to the H pipe. On my system i removed this pipe.

ya test pipes, i know what you mean but ive never really heard it in real life on a Z.im most likely gonna go withh a high flow cat when the time comes.

i plan on stayin N/A. im researching a compatable y-pipe for the borla (2.5' pipping)TDE system. and probly just go with borla headers.

4 hours is a bit much. We charge 1 hour-$80.

Any of you guys tried a DIY header install with basic garage tools, or does it really require and engine hoist and a bunch of other special tools? In, short is it really a PITA?

The headers are a BI$%H! It makes life easier with a hoist. Better yet, a lift would be the best thing to have if you own a 350Z, just drop the motor completely out to work on it lol

Ugh, tight spaces.

no i have the cat system. i wanna hook that into a proper y-pipe, then high flow cats, then into some borla headers, at least thats the plan. im still new to this but thats my plan. i wanna keep it as carb legal as i can.

header are kinda a *****, and me i dont have a real place to work on my Z so its just easier to pay someone to do it right.

as far as the labor for the plenum spacer, it has been yeilded a difference, but it was autobacs so i kinda did expect them to exploit the labor, but its in and it DOES sound nice with the gain

to install the spacer dont u just remove like 6 screws(or however many) on top of the plenum and drop the spacer in. for that amount of time i hope they threw in a reach around.

Richie,

Please quit the commentary. This thread in it's entirety doesn't pertain to you. So read QUIETLY!

1) Not trying to be mean, but you got royally ripped of on install.

Remove 4 engine cover bolts.Remove a couple of vacuum hoses.Remove 10-15 plenum bolts.Lift upper plenum, insert spacer (clean plenum if they're nice).Replace with new bolts.

DONE!

2) Again, not trying to be mean, but you're going to estimate RWHP?

Motordyne doesn't say it will give you a 15hp gain at peak. They're talking about in the mid-range. The Driver link that you posted shows 10+ hp in the midrange (not everywhere, but in a decent chunk of the midrange).

I know, if you read the thread I linked, it links to a thread with the motordyne guy, discussing exactly that, it's misleading advertising, when you tell people your part will add 10 hp they tend to assume that meand to the peak, unfortunatley their product doesn't do much at peak

Sorry, but consumers are foolish if they think they can use ricer math to estimate gains. A Pop-charger will get you 5-6 rwhp at peak and very little where you use it most. I'd much rather have a broad, smooth torque curve with a couple ponies up top than loose torque in the low/mid range and gain "20+ hp for 3 easy payments of $19.95"

Just because it doesn't give you a significant gain at PEAK doesn't mean the gain isn't worth it though.

The problem with most intake systems is that the air temps are HIGHER. Find a way to reduce these and you will notice bigger gains. With an open hood on a dyno and a fan blowing air you are going to see the gains accordingly...

I just did the headers (swapped OEM with DC Sports) and it was a *****! It took 4 - 6 hours of HARD labour! such tight spaces! Had to get the alternator out and more... I was cursing half way through it, wishing I had got the whole engine out.

I finally managed to get it going.

Tomorrow I'm finishing up with the megan racing cats and the HKS true dual exhaust. Pictures up soon.

P.S. I put the MREV2 and 5/16 spacer it took 30 - 45 minutes. Easy as pie.

As far as the plenum kit....there is no need to remove the coolant hoses...just get a bunge cord and hook onto one of the bolt holes of the upper plenum & then hang the upper plenum under the hood. Saves time!

You only need to remove the strut bar and intake tube. Then its a straight forward installation

Spacers are a good first mod for about 10hp, once you mod beyond that the gains arent that noticiable.

This video shows the spacer install step by step done in about 7 min. Says typical install is about 1.5 hrs. Looks like torquing the screws down is time consuming.

I only see the spacer install done in 7 min with power tools on all the bolts...

and then if you do the copper iso thermal upgrade you can add another 15 min.

I would say 45 min is average for time on this install, 15 more for the copper isothermal install.
