...do u wear protective jackets that has those klingon spine plates running on your back?

but, i've found out that there's a foam insert version like this guy...

http://www.motorcyclecruiser.c...hjax/

I've seen quite a few riders in the area riding in shorts/tanktops, but I know from experience not to do that anymore... too many crazy occupied drivers in SUVs/ Hummers/Big turbo diesel trucks talking on their cell phones <eventhough, NJ passed a law against this>

Hmmmmm....Ive never seen that before. People ride around in shorts and t-shirts all the time where I live, but the car/truck drivers are also more courteous. I dont see how they ride like that in places like the Bronx or on the highway though.

What part of NY do you live in?

Any rider with half a brain wears a jacket with spine protection. A Ballistic jacket with spin protection is a must, preferablly in leather, but the synthetic fibers are nearly as good and not as hot. My Joe Rocket was pretty good. I wish I'd been wearing it, the four times I crashed. Don't make my mistakes. Buy and wear a good quality jacket.

Here is a web site for you to check over. (If you havent already heard of them.) It is a local company that sales it's products all over the world. They have a lot of neat protective clothing.

How fast were you going when you fell? And did you cause a lot of damage to the bike when you fell?

jdm, used to live in kingsbridge bronx... but that pic is of cherry hill nj now... rarely go up to nyc anymore since i moved...

but it's like 50% of the riders are using these... which seems there's more sane riders in sjersey than in north/nyc...

for example: here's the other 1/2 of the riders i've seen flyin' down route 70

da wuss b smokin a cigarrette, yo while checkin out why he dippin hard on braking to a stop...

side note: i thought those high bars that go over your head are illegal in nj; saw another rider w/ his arms like this "Y" geezus

Yea those riders in the bronx are wild. I dont see how they could ride the way they do. Every time I see them bobbing and weaving in and out of traffic, I can always picture them either getting hit or crashing. They are so reckless.

I was doing about 45 when I flipped my first bike backwards doing a wheelie. Totalled bike. Busted the engine casing. And it was old anyway. Lost some skin on left forearm. That takes a while to grow back. A little Road rash on both knees. Pavement ate a few holes in my blue jeans.

Second wreck, high sided doing around 35. It hurt a little. screwed up my hand and foot. Totalled my SV650.

Third wreck, in the same month as the last wreck, on the same bike. Bought the SV back from the insurance company. Low sided at about 45. broke my new shifter peddle, bent handle bars, and scratched my new clutch lever. Again, there went the skin on my left forearm again. Riding is starting to suck for me, so I quit.

March of last year, I think, I buy my final motorcycle. 97 Suzuki TL1000S. anyone that has rode one of these knows they are a kick butt bike. I loved that bike. Good power, and torque that had the front wheel pointing skyward more than it was on the ground.

Anyway, June 6th, an old lady in a cadilac decided to turn left in front of me. T boneing a Cadi at 50 to 55 hurts petty good. It leaves you dazed for a few minutes. Anyway, dislocated my left arm, fractured my shoulder, and busted my privates pretty good. They seem to be functioning alright. Busted the front fairing, head light, destroyed the radiator, killed the front wheel, broke one of my forks, and cracked the frame. Not to mention it scratched the heck out of my D&D exhaust.

Anyway, even thou I had a 250 dollar jacket, I never had it on at the important times. Moral of the stories, buy one, and wear it every single time you go out. You just never know when you are going to have a really bad day. Well, I did know I was gonna wreck that last time. My limited ESP told me not to ride, that I was gonna wreck. Listen to your instincts!!!!!!!

P.S. The idiot on the chopper with the pot helmet reminded me. Buy a good, full face helmet. My Shoei saved my life, and my pretty face. Skidding on your face across the pavement sucks with a helmet on, but I dont want to think what it would have been like with out it. They may cost a little more, but they are worth it.

Damn. Well they say every one that buys a bike falls off or crashes at least once. So are you done for good with sport bikes? My cousin bought an 03 Ninja Im not too sure what model it is, but I know its a 1200 and I love the color(Dark burgandy that looks black in some light and at night). He had the factory gold rims not to long ago, but I think he just put some chrome ones on.That thing is damn fast.

The ZX-12R. Good bike. but insanely fast. Yeah, I am pretty much done with them. I still get the urge to get one, and my friends use peer pressure to get me to get one. They want one, but will only get one if someone else does first. That for some reason seems to have to be me.

But having to endure a few months of pysical therapy will take the fun out of pretty much anything. It is now my policy to not break any bones, or bleed un-nessarily. The highway has claimed too much of my hide and blood.

One other thing I always throw out there when discussing motorcycles is my recommendation for a firt bike, if you dont have one. The Suzuki SV650. Horse power around 65. Good handeling and lite weight. The vtwin gives it a nice bit of torque. And they are priced very good.

My cousin is a big guy(about 325+ lb.) so he needs a bike that size. His brother is plannin on getting a Hyabusa, which I believe is a 1300. Both the Ninja and the busa are definately insanely fast. Do you have any pics of the SV650? What year are you talking about, about how much, and hows insurance for someone whos 18 or 19?

This is my friend's SV. It's an amazing bike. Both he and his wife love it and can ride it comfortably. Good Vtwin power...which is more than enough, for any rider... and super comfortable.

This idea that you outgrow a certain cc bike has always been nonsense.

You don't outgrow a bike, your ego does though. Don't be stupid, kids.

Yeah, see that horse tar. At the angle I landed on the pavement last time, on my face. With out my helmet I most likely would have broke my neck. Check out the higher priced helmets, like Arai and shoei. They are designed to account for alot of the neck travel.

And I landed at an angle on my face and left shoulder. It waqs a nose dive type deal. I actually got my right hand up, and my left was still by my side when I landed. Kind of hard to explain, but the helmet saved my life. Or at least kept me from competeing int he special olympics. (sorry if I offended anyone with that last comment).

I was in Queens for the 4th staying at my Grandmas house. My cousin comes over (lives 5 blocks away) to get his bike outta my grandmas garage. Its his first bike, a 03 ZX-7 (big bike, heavier than Zx-11/12 he says). He bought it new last summer when he turned 25. Then he throws on his leather jacket and pulls out this 'cool' half helmet thing. Now I remember how we used to ride bikes (pedal powered) as kids, and suggest he gets a real helmet.Anyway we start talking about bikes and learning to ride safely, and to make a long story short, I cant decide if I still want this S14 or a nice ZX-6 instead (that Sv650 looks real good too). Arrrggghh!!

There are perforated leather jackets and suits that allow for cool air flow without sacrificing abrasion protection! Proper gear is state of the art and price reflects this! A bike is still a big investment, once you add up the gear that you must buy to protect yourself.
