1. Viable and sustainable social programs for the elderly.
2. Access to medical services for all Americans.
3. World class education system, K-12.
4. Affordable college for those who excel at educational endeavors.
5. A defensive military.
6. A balanced budget.
7. Those making a little income, pay little tax. Those making more income, pay more tax. Those making much income, pay much tax, including corporations.
8. Red state males lose their hetero cards.
9. Honesty in government.
Thank you for asking.
1. Is this for all elderly, or only those who need it? And where are their kids to take care of them? Why is it the governments, AKA OUR, responsibility?
2. Does this constitute a right? If so does that mean everyone has a right to healthcare, or do you mean a right to "affordable" healthcare? If the latter, how do you make it "affordable"? Again is that the governments, AKA OUR, responsibility?
3. Who makes the choice on education? The government or the parent? Who determines the curriculum? Is there choice in the equation?
4. For those who excel? That seems a bit apart from libby mentality that I'm familiar with. Does that indicate that not EVERYONE should bother with college? You throw in the word affordable. Again how do you make it affordable, and is that the responsibility of the government, AKA US?
5. In some cases, can a good offense be considered a successful defense? I of course dont mean in every endeavor or occasion. Should we only extend to our borders and no further? Wait we dont defend our borders from invasion now anyway, should we start?
6. With you all the way on balanced budget. Some seem to think it a pipedream, I dont. It means we wont always afford everything we want, and I dare say this point poses some serious contention with some of your other points. In other words it dont jive.
7. Thats the beauty of a solitary % on one black line of a one page tax code. The less you make, the less you pay. Im with you there, although I do think there should be some means of exempting taxes on necessities, be a "standard exemption" or a prebate in the case of a consumption tax. A secondary question here. Are you trying to reveal that you believe that corporations actually every PAY tax? Surely you jest.
8. Not sure I follow you here. Is that a stab at saying "gay rights"? Does the government really even have any business saying either way? If so, where does the bar fall? Do we allow anything that does not intersect with the rights of another consenting adult? Seems thats the only LOGICAL line to draw, this would then include polygamy, and maybe other areas that I'm too pure of heart to know about.
9. HAHA good one, you threw a joke in at the end. Honesty is incompatible with humanity. In much the same way, socialism and socialist policies really make alot of sense on paper in a college book, but the whole notion is incompatible with human nature. When its time for the ruling class to step aside and let "auto pilot" take over, the absolute power required in the previous steps tends to corrupt absolutely.
Now that I've laid that out, let me clarify. I did not intend to pick apart and criticize your points, but more so to give you a chance to expound. And to possibly bring to light the fact that both sides of this coin are equally valid. Where you see government intervention as the answer, I see unbridled market solutions as the answer. A mix of both just wont work, so it comes down to which of the two, and as I believe in freedom and liberty on the individual level first and foremost, I dont see the social solution as being morally right, as it puts aside the individual for the sake of society.
