Private message... most online forums have private messages which is like emails but through the forums..

When they installed the vB software they saved some money by not installing this... And thats why it says PMs have been disabled, when really they do not exist... :)

Well, having 2 well functioning 'active' car-- the only maintenance they need/get is the stuff on standard cars. Nothing on the active since I recharged the accumulators. That's now 7 car years, 80K miles. Did get a short spell of left rear height sensor occasional fault on wife's car (92) , disconnected the arm, exercised it a dozen or so times--'fixed' the last 12 months. On that car, Do have a just failed rear subframe bushing on left front--right where the 'G' sensor is--temporarily patched with rubber flange inserts cut from spare MBZ subframe bushing.

Well crap--lousy part only lasted 15 years and 130K miles.

Seriously, B4 you destroy the car, lets talk about a program to repair it or swap it for a standard. You will not regret the additional time spent in evaluating your alternatives. Dealer prices are so sad--and they know it. Sevral Delaers will be happy to install my recharged accumulators for you.

Active Conversions done 4 now.. After the first you have it down to a long day. I've also helped people convert in IL, SC, CT. I've also converted two of my own. Recommed using stock coils if you want to keep the comfort unless you want the lowered look with larger rims. IMHO your crazy for not converting and keeping your Q. The cars last forever if taken car of..

If you need to save money, you probably don't have the right car. That said, I think most of us fall into the same catagory. Honestly,I'd love a 94-95Q A, but I just can't find the right one, coupled with the (2) 90-93's already in the garage. The A models just ride/handle so darn well when they are in good condition, I can't imagine why, other than cash, someone would convert.

If you need to save money, buy a g20. Seriously, when you buy a used Q (like most used cars) there's always a lot of deferred maintanence left to do!

Well said--my 94active had just been well serviced--belts hoses, plenum, fluids, tires, brakes, etc when I bought it--the accumulators were dead flat--and I got it for the right price. a simple swap for recharged accumulators (since I make them, cost was low), and now 45K miles later--still nothing significant changed idler bearings--one started to make noise. Flushed the transmission, that's it other than battery, tires, brake pads and turn front rotors, and I changed the fuel pump when it started getting noisy. (disassembled it, found noise was from rust on tip of rotor cage--nothing worn at all-just a slight rub of the rust on the roller race (see photos in member rides section)Occasionally the power door locks act crazy and will 'unlock, relock' when remote is pushed, and a couple of time locked itself while sitting. I've learned to always keep a key outside the car if I am not in it.

Texasoil.. my Q does the exact same thing, and unfortunately i dont have a spare key! We've had to call AAA 4 times, and EVERY time its locked itself wiht the keys in, its been at my house (3 times in the driveway, once in the garage).....

Just for comparison the LS400 quasi semi partially active AIR height suspension get converted frequently as the air strut prices are similar ~~ $980 each* x 4............. plus 2.25 hours labor to change each one......[shocks in general on LS take longer to remove/replace than Q].The air compressor assembly wears out but is easy to change [3-4 hours] another $1000.

Only costs $5700 to rehabilitate vs $1,880 to convert [using junkyard springs and seats plus new shocks.

The air ride is not very effective and reacts too slowly to help handling or braking........not nearly the downsides on this conversion compared to a Q.*The shock assembly has all the inlet outlet valving and control solenoids built on top.

I had that happen when I had my 944 Turbo. Lucky for me, I was in front of my house. Ever since that, I always leave the window open if I close the door with the car running.

I could see that being more reasonable.. On caddy forums, people hardly EVER convert their cadillac "CVRSS" which is a joke in my mind.. The car still handles worse than my Q with its well designed but psasive system.....

I too can see no reason, other than cash to convert a Q45a in good condition. Hell, if the actsus is working, I could see no reason to convert at ALL, and yes, unscheduled maintanance is part of used car ownership, but there are not many car maladies that get into the price range of fixing the active suspension. Also, dealer support is criminal.

That's priceless :)

I dream of the day I get to experience my active suspension. Or just the car in general. Hopefully the two won't be mutually exclusive
