I already installed my Blitz LM FMIC on my s14 zenki and cut off just enough of the front bumper support to fit the core. This means that the top half of the core is still covered by the bumper support and bumper. I need a new bumper soon and have been debating getting one that exposes more of the core. For example the popular Bomex one that is pretty wild and has the little ramped "dam corners" over the main intercooler opening seems like it would benefit from removal of more of the support in front of the core. Seeing some tuned Japanese turbo cars I have noticed that often they are lacking the bumper support altogether. I am not on my own computer now, otherwise I would provide pics. I want to know how you all have modified yours and to what degree, how it may or may not have affected intercooler performance.

On my s14 it seems to be important for holding the headlights and grille. That's one of the main reasons I kept it, but I also (at the time) thought I could still retain some protection. However even with a full bumper support, your FMIC is going to be destroyed in a collision anyway. I just don't like my nice big core all covered. I think I might have to go back and hack it some more, I'll post pics of how or if I was able to remove it and hold my headlights.

I removed mine and it doesn't affect the support of the head lights. The lights have their own mouting. I have a 1997 S14 so I don't think that there is a difference between our bumper supports.

Hmm. I suppose I will remove the whole thing as well. Too bad I hacked my intercooler pipe to "cant" the bottom of the core 30mm inward in order to clear the big seam on the support. D'oh! I will just have to weld 30mm back into the first coldpipe then.

well i just feel like a big dummy now! I wasted over an hour cutting that POS with a torch, then modified my intercooler piping, when I should have just removed the support and left the piping alone.

i know on my accord i used to have a front bumper, and it wouldn't fit with the bumper support, so i threw it away. Ends up the bumper support also makes the bumper fit better, had to make some brackets to get it to fit right, my cuzns accord bumper kept the brace and his fit perfect.... now im not sure about the 240's but if u get an aftermarket bumper it might not fit perfect, but don't hold me to it im not sure.

yeah well that's another thing. on s14's there are definitely some bolts that go into it, although there is this flimsy lil' shim type thing that some of them go through. I guess that and the fenders are supposed to keep it on? seems kind of sketchy.

My bumper doesn't move around much when I am driving, but it flexes if i push on it.

The problem is that my end tanks are right in the way of where the bumper support bolts to the frame. There is no way I could modify it to work with that intercooler.

hokiruu....too bad you had to waste that time but know you've learned from experience. Also everyone, in the instructions it says to remove the bumper support. As far as fitment of after market bumpers I'm not sure but I will find out soon when my VIS bumper is finished getting painted.

The "Extreme" fake Edge kit. Stuck into my fenderwells about 2" on each side. Even after shaving them down, it was still too wide to match up with my fenders properly. The mounting tabs were in the wrong places. It is thin and weak.

Hmmm....that sux. Well I have the R33 Skyline GTR replica front bumper. Hopefully mine will fit better. As far as the holes, VIS didn't drill them out on mine. VIS left that up to me. Also as far as strength it looks pretty sturdy but only way to find out is when driving the car with the bumper mounted.

VIS is the worst company IMO. Nothing but total ricer crap. If it were actually worth it there could be huge thread like this about them. Hope you manage to get your bumper to fit at all.

Yeah, when I get my new bumper (maybe whole new kit since not a single VIS piece fits properly) i am going to toss it altogether too. I recall that it didn't make a damn difference as far as I could tell when I wrecked my front. Except that it costs and weighs alot.

wouldn't a bumper support help you in a front end collision?

I can't believe greddy's kit doesn't let you keep your bumper support :(

I chunked mint too. Weighed it first though - 28lbs - that should help balance out the chasis a little bit.
