Yeah...that seems a bit...
HOWEVERI really doubt rape and murder statistics went up for that one day (yeah, I know those statics don't exist to check...)You say your self they were paid overtime, Thats because instead of going home, 50 extra cops stayed on to do this bust. How many cops where at the bust? Most of those weren't cops that would have been stopping a rape...they were cops who would have been off duty at the bar.
Its a big chunk of tax payer money for sure, so legitimate criticisms there...But its bigger picture. As quite a few people have mentioned in this thread...These crack downs worked very well to cut down accidents and incidences of street racing in other areas.
So the money we spend now is significant...but the money we spend sending ambulances to street racing accidents, the money we spend repairing what ever the kid wrecked his car against, the money we spend launching 100 more smaller scale ineffective programs....Does this balance out?
This has been on every auto message board...people in the thread are talking about how its best not to mess around...Its all been pretty effective, has gotten the point across and the word around better then any ad campaign could, and possibly costs less?
Again it does suck for us legitimate and responsible enthusiasts...But how many went to that socal meet in oxnard? TONS of modified cars...No one gave as much as a second glance...It was a responsible meet in a reserved place....
Arrest every little ricer showing up to THOSE "meets" for all I care.
