wsupz everybody, a while back i was thinking about joining the military service and i made a thread and talked about it. http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....14753

These few days i been thinking about it and i really want to join the military service. I really admire(dont' know what should be the correct word for it but i'll use admire) people that is in the military force and i want to be part of the "crew". so i got a few question.

What kind of work does the marine do? i don't quite understand where marine stand. Like army is like foot soldier, on land. Navy is on the sea most of the time and what about marine? All i know is that they are a part of the navy i think. And how do i determine which one i should pick to join?

Marines are all over the place, In the air on the land and on the sea.

The first thing a Marine is rifle man! Every Marine can Fight on a battle field, After Boot camp where you learn basic field craft you go to you got to MCT (Marine combat training) or SOI school of infantry. MCT, This is where POGS(people other then grunts) shoot crew served weapons and spend about three weeks in the field going on humps and patrols. SOI is for the grunts, The learn most of the same things that are taught in MCT but its more intense. After MCT you would go to your MOS school learn something and then go to your unit, But you might get sent to a war on day and you might be a cook on patrol with a supply marine being lead by a SGT. from the motor pool.

Which should you join? What do you want to do? Want the money? I believe the Navy's Nuclear program is one of the most highest paying jobs (and bonuses). A guy at my school got his $40,000 (yeah, I was amazed) enlistment bonus from the Navy. I'm not sure exactly what he's going in for. Want almost fully paid college? All the branches are good for that.

I personally want to something more... Sure, a large bonus would be nice... So would less then 3 months of bootcamp. But I want to be a Marine, but that may not be. Turns out I have a little medical condition called Chrones Disease and that disqualifies you from joining the military. However, I'm going up to the recruiters office again next week because I found some information on waivers and other things. Just not getting much help from my recruiter.

And I was thinking of choosing Combat Engineer as my MOS.

YamaOni, I don't remember if you posted in my last thread, but what was your MOS?

As far as money in the Corps, you dont join for the money! The one MOS I know that has a good bonus is intel and you can pick up rank fast.

I was a small arms repair man, Fixing rifles was ok. I spent too much time under ground alone surrounded with rifles and such.

As far as being a combat engine, you might end up pumping gas on an air field. Or you might be a sapper, looking for land minds.

Ah, pumping gas.... nice...

But, a Marine pumping gas.

Yeah, I asked about Intel but I don't know if I wanted to do that. Don't have to worry about any of that right now, cause I've got to get able to be able to get in the Marine Corps, then join.... Yeah...

well in the very begining i was gonna join the military for college funds and all. Now, if i join it's not just because of a college funds. I want to do something in life that is honorable and can be proud of. There's also other things in life i can do to be honorable and be proud of but i i really do like the military so that's what i'm going for.

After bootcamp i guess you get send to a base and work or something right? Do people stay in the same base for 4 years?

It goes like this, after boot camp you will go to MCT or SOI, after SOI you go to you unit for a year or three, who knows where you will go, You might spend six months in japan UDP. After MCT you will go to your MOS school and then to your unit...(same as above)

Go in as a 7212 Stinger Missile Gunner/Avenger crewman. We get the best of both worlds. We don't have to go through SOI, just MCT, but we end up in grunt-like ground combat role (they call us the grunts of the air wing). When in the field, the grunts have to hump, but we pretty much have to have a vehicle to operate, so we ride everywhere. Plus, we blow stuff up all the time, since Stingers and a 1100rpm .50 are our standard armament. You'll definitely see the world...7212's are the most depoyed Marines in the Corps. However, duty stations are limited to Lejuene, Pendleton, and Okinawa. You spend a lot of time in the field, and most active duty units don't allow gunners to take college classes. You don't really get to "pick" your duty station, but you fill out a "dream sheet" when you finish MOS school, of where you want to go. I suggest Pendleton.

STOP IT, STOP IT, NO MORE! i spent four years in the desert, in 29 palms, in dead heat. average temp was about 110F, plus i had to fix hot freakin tanks and their hot diesel engines i have so many dang burns. at one point i had a number 5 imprinted on my forearm from being burnt by the head of a bolt. hey kids if u join the marines do not get the MOS 2146 tank mech. u cant go anywhere but 29 Palms or Camp Lejune. woopdeedoo TWO PLACES, HOW FUN! but no matter where u go in the corps u make the best of it by meeting some of the best men in the world.u will see who your true friends are. now that im out i realized all my best friends in high school are just little kids now. ive experienced in four years what they will never see. i know a little long!

i've been in the USAF for almost 5 years now and i've been to 17 different countries. i work a 7-4 day job fixing trucks. the AF has bases all over the worldand all sorts of jobs to choose from. one could learn a trade in the AF and get out and apply it on the outside, not too many jobs like that in the marines or army. better living conditions and and work enviroments in my opinion.

just my 2 cents

Try jumping out of a airplaine at 1000 feet with 190 lb of combat gear going 250mph.and you think sex is good. ben to all the hot spots in the world.(when i was younger.) got over 45 jumps in less than two years.jump from jets and helos.best three years of my life.and you get more money for benning airborne.

Yeah the Air Force has a boot camp, its about 6 1/2 weeks long compared to the Marines I think 12. Deciding which branch to join is going to be tough. I almost joined the navy but went with the AF instead. And just because it's the branch with the highest number of women had nothing to do with it..... ;) The AF has the highest requirements, such as testing and backround checks. Ive been in 6 years and all I can say is wherever you end up the AF always gets the best of everything (dorms, food, no 6am physical training) I like the AF and all branches, Its great to be a part of the best military in the world. Good luck on your quest of picking a branch to join.

Touching on cars, military personnel can register foreign cars easily that would otherwise be difficult to register as a civilian.
