Just turned 56K on my 2003. Had the driver seat frame and fuel gauge replaced under the extended warranty. The dealer is tracking the oil consumption. Last Wednesday I was picked up at the airport by my wife. After a month of driving a rental, was stunned by the looks of my M45 as it pulled up to the curve. WOW!!! I am in love with my car...wife too!

Hello,Whenever I rent a car, I feel the exact same way. I had a loaded Audi A4 S Line for a month while visiting family and friends. Sadly, the only reasons I rented it was to keep miles off my car and to be able to smoke in it. At first, I thought it was not bad. After 100 miles, I was completely missing my car.

I see you have a XJR. That was the runner up to the M which I purchased. I really came close to buying a 2002. The transmission replacement cost (10-15 k) soured me. I believe it is the same transmission from older Mercedes AMG cars. Loved the way it looks and drives.Cheers,ML

2003 M45, 33,000 Mi, pearl white, chromes, AC seats. no Nav.

Replaced to date: CD Changer, trunk struts, rear brakes. ZERO oil consumption.

Only issue is the occasional engine cutting out issue I've posted about (not yet resolved), the squeaky drivers seat (WHAT is the cure for that?) and the "green" shift knob which I am going to replace with a Momo knob and avoid the new one turning green later on.

I was driving it back from the gym yesterday, after driving my wifes EX35 back from the detail shop, and mused on the fact that her car is a "one handed car" while the M is a "two handed" car, in other words, you need two hands on the wheel to drive this thing!

Having owned 5 V-8 GT Mustangs over the years (a 65, 68, 70, 88, and 2001) I think that I would compare driving the M to driving a 4-door Mustang GT as far as ride and steering, etc. -- except the M is faster and handles better - LOL.

2004 M45 42,000 miles, Premium no Nav. Oil: Amzoil & filter /7500 miles. Oil use insensible if you stay below 7,000 RPM. I Believe the VK to be one if not the most sophisticated engines ever to be put in a passenger car. Bar none. I have owned 4 cars in the last 40 yrs that I have driven at least 250,000 miles/car both foreign and domestic.Too much has been said on this forum about oil consumption of a small number of 03 M45's.I have yet to read on this forum of the dread "oil consumption " in an 04 M45. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I will suggest if there is any weak link in attempting to drive any new car for 200,000 miles is the "solid state" components. Life expectancy of this technology is related to how many times it experiences a voltage surge at start up or turning off and on. Also solid state electronics suffers from repeated extreme heat and cold cycles ie geography

With a few exceptions this drive train is BULLET PROOF and I suspect will become another favorite "Hot ROD engine long after the Y34 has been recycled. Relax gentlemen
