If you don't want to read the entire article it basically says that Miami is trying to pass a bill that would ban people from feeding the homeless because sometimes they leave a mess behind. If you want to feed the homeless you will have to go through a formal training on giving them safe food ect.

My reaction is that this is bulls***. If I want to help a needy person out I don't need the government telling me I can't. As far as the mess left behind I think there are other options. Miami is starting to remind me of Cali a little.

Miami residents may have to think twice before giving up their leftovers to the homeless.

The Miami City Commission is set to consider a proposal next month that would prohibit unauthorized people and groups from feeding the homeless downtown, an ordinance proponents say will cut down on litter and ensure the safety of the food the homeless do eat.

The Miami Downtown Development Authority recently approved the measure, sending it up to the commission.

Though the change could draw objections, David Karsh, spokesman for Development Authority Chairman Marc Sarnoff, said the rule isn't a blanket ban. He said that anybody would be able to feed the homeless, but they would have to go through formal training first -- amateurs couldn't just give up part of their lunch to help someone they meet on the street.

"The ordinance is not by any means meant to discourage people from feeding homeless people," he told FoxNews.com, adding that homeless advocacy groups support the measure. "Anybody can do it."

The training would cover two main lessons: how to ensure the food is safe to eat, and how to clean up the mess afterward.

"The business owners and residents in the area are complaining that there's just an incredible mess in the area once the group leaves," Karsh said. "It really is an immense mess that's left behind."

If the ordinance passes, anybody who breaks it would first receive a warning and then fines up to $300 for subsequent offenses. [/quote]

Haha

I know people with homes who make messes too. Should we ban them from eating without training as well?

Good! They're like allegators. If you feed them they get used to people. Then they end up hurting people!

Even if it does pass I can't picture a cop giving a person a ticket for helping the homeless.

Eh.

The actual law probably has its reasons. Fox news is just doing what they do best, attempting to create controversy.

Whoever thought up giving a news network to a bunch of conspiracy theorists, needs to be darwinized.

STFU. If I post a link from the Clinton News Network (CNN) will you feel better? All the news organizations have their biases. On non-political matters Fox does just fine. Also keep in mind that they are the top rated news organization.

O dont get your panties all knottef up.

I think you mean MSNBC.

They are all a bunch of nut jobs.

Both of them drag politics into everything. They are both horribly biased (CNN's not much better), and you have to take every story with a grain of salt (and then some).

Top rated? That just means people are watching, not that they agree with, or even believe what is being said.

Heck, Ive watched it myself a few times, just to see what they will say next.

It originated at a local CBS affiliate.

I know what is it like first hand to see homeless littering. The homeless guy that hangs around outside the McDonald's i work at sometimes leave a mess right after i just cleaned up the parking lot. Do you know how aggravating that is?

I've got a better idea. How about ticketing the homeless for being homeless. I know everyone says going to a homeless shelter isn't as easy as people make it seem, but then i ask: "Why isn't it?" The fact is that most people who become homeless, get lazy and feel they're better off sponging off the trash companies, lol, and other hard-workers of society. But then again, the same can be said for people who remain of welfare for their entire lives. That's another discussion for another day however. The point is most homeless people become too complacent, and look down on homeless shelters because if they go to shelters they'll have to clean up their acts and go look for jobs. Give THEM the tickets i say.

of course that was a joke. that will only overcrowd jail cells. but, too many people are homeless by choice, and something needs to be done to make them get up off their lazy butts. one of my co-workers was homeless for two years and he despises the homeless, because he says if he can get up off his lazy butt, and get a job, then it'S not impossible for anyone to get out of homelessness. i don't despise the homeless, but i also feel the same way.

Several are lazy, and panhandling perpetuates it. But even more are mentally ill and couldn't maintain the routine necessary for employment.

How many of those mentally ill got it from drug and alcohol abuse? The ones I feel bad for are the true mentally ill like the ones from the military that suffer the anxiety or the ones born with the sickness.

But even a few of those chosen probably had opportunities to get help as well. In truth, it's all a craps shoot.

Good point. I didn't factor in the ones that are truly mentally ill (excluding the ones who brought it on themselves). Aside from them, the other sane ones and those faking mental illnesses really have no excuses.

this.

I mean, we can not feed them and let them starve to death....OR we can start the Running Man game show!

both have the same end result...you gotta ask yourself which is more humane?

Yea what I was getting at was this...

It's not my problem, it's yours Miami. Taking rights from me isn't the solution. Figure out another way. Leave me out of it.

The reason it is so hard to get into homeless shelters is because ...There are single mother's that have no place to go , There are fathers who might have lost there job and can't move into to low income housing with their gf and child..There are homeless people in their as well but they only have so much room and they cannot take in everyone at once..Good example watch the pursuit of happiness!!! True story and this s*** happens everyday. Although there are not many driven people who want to make there situation better! Making a law to not feed a couple of homeless people is still wrong in my book.

Feeding the homeless is like feeding pigeons. Feed one and they tell 10 friends. Soon everything is covered in bird crap. Pretty much the same way with homeless. I understand the frustrations, but there are better ways to address the problem than making another stupid law that cannot, or will not be enforced.

Agreed to an extent. I dont think homeless are like birds..They might litter !!! But I doubt the next time you sit in a park they are going to flock around you for your scraps...

Here in downtown Albuquerque near a pay-to-park lot, this guy showed up every Thursday morning and handed out free breakfast burritos to the homeless. After just a few weeks, the crowd began to swell and get out of hand. It was nearly impossible to get in or out of the parking lot. Some of the guys made lewd comments to the ladies walking past… pushing and shoving started… It was a mess. Cops had enough and shut it down.
