So I am listening to the radio while coming home from Pennsylvania. Went out there to help Repoman buy a car. The new Metallica comes on the radio, St. Anger. I have to say that it was an honest attempt to get back to their old roots. After 10sec into the song, like a school bus full of children stuck on the train tracks, something goes horribly wrong. I start to think back to the good old days, when the latest Metallica RECORD was "Master of Puppets." Everything was right in the world. Yeah it stunk that Cliff Burton died and "Justice" was a pretty good comeback RECORD. After "Justice" this travesty we now call Metallica began. So my question is, you’re stuck on an island and you have only one Metallica cd/(record in my case) to listen to, what is it?

BTW, I am not some johny come lately Metallica fan. I remember the Megadeth vs. Metallica fueds. I remember when Metallica barely sold any ALBUMS. And I remember if you said, "have you seen the new Metallica video?" People would look at you like you had a SR20DET coming out of your ear.You only have one CD/Album on your deserted island, what is it?

Did you watch any of that Metallica Icon thing on MTV? I watched about 5 minutes and then had to turn it off.

I still remember buying "Garage Days Re-Revisited" in the RECORD store.

Back in the 80's I would put almost any of my favorite bands up against the crap they have now. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Van Halen, Queensryche, Ozzy, Anthrax, Danzig, Quiet Riot or Suicidal Tendencies. (This challange does not include: Rage Against the Machine [greatest band to ever exist], Rob Zombie, Linkin Park, Pantera or Super Joint Ritual)

I think Lars proved, what we all had been saying for years. Its not about the music, its about the money. Metallica did sell out. No one believed us when we said that after the video for "One" was released. It is, "Sad but True." BTW anyone know when Metallica will be on TRL next?

It all went down hill after Justice. I grew up on Metallica. They used to be such a good band, but now they suck big donkey ****!

Anyhoo, my vote is for Puppets!

I had to go with "Garage Inc" simply for the diversity. It's a collection of their covers and b-sides. A couple songs on there are from their first two albums, the "Garage Days" stuff and their latest covers.

"Master of Puppets" has to be my favorite Metallica album, hands down.

It's really too bad that they are now officially corporate poofter-boys. :rolleyes

Master of Puppets.

"Seek and Destroy" is probably one of my favorite songs ever written....:firedevil

I've only heard the new song once but was VERY disappointed... I agree, almost impossible to listen to. :(

I agree - VERY cool, but I would have preferred that album if they had done it in a studio, with better production - where you could hear the subtleties and nuances of the orchestral arrangements.

BTW, "Master" is my fave song on S&M... Great cello part.

Sorry man... I'm a HUGE metal fan and have been my entire 26 years on this planet.... but Metallica is mediocre at best. The Black album (Metallica) was their first and only great album. They started to show some musical maturity and complexity. It was their only commercially successful album for a reason... because it was their only GREAT album. Everything before that was good... and true to their metal roots... and everything after was okay... but lost the beauty of the metallica black album days.

BTW... the three tracks I heard off St. Anger were pretty good and I can't wait to hear the entire album.

You can love or hate Metallica, old or new, but one thing remains certain. There are very VERY few people on this earth who can do what Kirk Hammet does with a guitar.

Hammet is a darn good guitar player, but have you ever heard Dimebag from Pantera? He is freakin' insane.

Have any of you heard the Apocaliptica stuff? It's a bunch of cellos playing Metallica songs. Personally, I think they play the stuff better than Metallica does, but I'm kinda biased cuz I play the cello.

Yeah, Dimebag is awesome in his own right, I agree. The deciding factor for me is that I still cream my pants whenever I hear a Hammet guitar solo.

Nick :)

I think Dave Mustaine (sp?) might disagree!:D

I like Kirk.... but there are SOooooo many other guitarists that I prefer and that could make him look like Their biotch!

Ride the lightning is my personal favorite, pure artestry. I own all but the new one but the wife listens to that new stuff, they lost me with the black album. They were pivotal and had their time in music history but that is in the past. I think Linkin Park stands out as one of the few new bands that are worth a **** in todays lyrical limbo. Are they the greastest band in history? of course not but they are innovative and true to themselves, you will never say "yeah Park sounds like ----. In this era of carbon copy "american idols" and overnight "divas" that counts with about twelve people in the word, about half of them here the other half in a bomb shelter somewhere trying to cobble together parts to fix an old JVC record plaver so they can listen to their Led Zepplin records one last time before the MTV secret police find them, burn the records ala Farenheit 451(it's a book kids) and take them to the TRL reeducation camps to be bathed in Christina Agulera and Brittany Spears "songs" :rolleyes until their eyes glaze over and the tell tale drool forms at the corners of their mouths. Then they will be ready to rejoin society; soulless, lame, and ready to follow society blindly into musical oblivion.

For Salesoap box, high milage but sturdy. I am selling out so I will have no further use for it. $.02

Well, I see no other people in this thread who agree with my opinion, but you're all going to get it anyways.

I can't stand Metallica. Actually, I hate them with a passion. Their music bores me, and they are a bunch of crybabies.

I didn't like them before the whole Napster thing, but I downloaded some of their crap just to piss them off during the court proceedings. To bad I was never BAND from Napster for it.

Farenheit 451 is a darn good book too. That and 1984 are really good anti-censorship novels.

Metallica did hold my attention for a while, but i moved on to better stuff. Cliff Burton is undoubtably the best bassist ever. and as for the best bad, its gotta be Zepplin. SOOOOO DAMN GOOD!! and as for innovative, i'm going with KMFDM. One of the best bands ever.

Korn. Limp Bizkit. ok its a stretch. I can tolerate the half of linkin park that doesn't rap. That guy's lyrics are weak as hell IMO.

actually I've had it for like two months now. I had the rough unfinished version. I went out today and got the special edition with the poster and lyric book and all that. Good album. Still not as good as OK Computer tho.

Korn sounds nothing like Park. They are both great but have different sounds. I lump Korn in with rage, I liked the early stuff from both but they need to get new topics to sing about. Zach sees a government conspiracy when Mcdonalds takes to long to cook his quarter pounder with cheese, enough already! If I have to hear Johnathan Davis whine about how his mommy didn't love him one more time I'm going to wretch, I'll give him a hug if he'll get over it for crying out loud!
