1)Royal Purple uses group 4 stock, man, since when did royal purple ever think of using group 2 or three stock. Royal Purple is definitely a higher end product than Mobil One, as current prices are around 6.40 per quart.
2)Redline charges something crazy like 7.50+ right? Dont get me wrong, i dont penny pinch on oil, but most people cant afford to spend that kinda dough every 3k miles. I can though!
3)Sport did a article on oils and (world renowned) cosworth said, the additive package is more important these days than most people realize. A group 2 oil with the right additives can be better than a group 4 stock, with not the right mix of additives.
4)I am loving this thread, and feel free to prove me wrong, you can even check out
http://www.royalpurple.com/techi/whyrpi.html for more info.
5)Unlike most companies, RP only makes synthethic. Also, I believe Redline uses group four/five also.
6)I remember something about offsetting the amount of esther, estherglycerin somehing blah blah blah (some big word and dont have the mag near me) from group 5 PAO oils, by incorporating group 4.

1) not True. For one, all companies that use expensive base stocks make a bid deal about it on their websites, whereas on RP's website, you hear nothing concrete at all and every sentence is evasive on this subject.
In addition, the MSDS clearly shows, "synthetic additives with isoparifinic diluent" more double talk"Iso parrifinic is Group 3 (n some argue you call group 2+ this also), so what do we have here?
http://www.doc.state.nc.us/epr...l.pdfSo its at best a Blend, and possibly ( and this sounds more likely this this is what they actually state) a sub grou 3 plus an addtive thats "synthetic"
2) Yes RL charges around $8 . Its a group 5 oil with a polyol base stock which costs money to make.Oxidation resitance is extreme tho.For some this would make it not worth it but nonetheless its a legitimate advantage over even Mobil1/AMSOIL and some will pay premium for it ( Think Summer autoX with a Turbo Engine)
3) This is true for many ( not all) applications)
4) more Evasiness talk, in this link
5)RP as established in 1) does not make all synthetics and if you read their literature carefully, you will find that they avoid claiming it as well.RL is a group 5
6) Group 5 and 4 addtives won't mix.
You will never find an oil formulation that attempts to dissolve dilute or even mix group 4 with 5. Even the additives you need for each group are different and a group 4 additive pack, would never be used with a group 5 oil or vice versa
