I'm saying it would be more convincing to hear it from someone who wasnt associated with RP.

Someone not associated with RP......hmm, they dont pay me, and ive seen dyno gains as high as 5.5hp with just motor oil change( 1999 mustang cobra), and as high as 9whp with transmission fluid and diff fluid being changed at the same time as the motor oil.

They back countless race teams, sell their high end product to select distributors(not walmart), 6.00+ a quart, and I gained almost 2.4 mpg in my old 196,000 mile original motor ka-e when I had it from switching from gtx to their 10w-30 synthetic. (23.7mpg average to 26.0mpg)

This is when it was 2.50 a gallon for regular, 2.4 extra mpg x 13 gallon=31.2 extra miles every fill up. So 13 gallonsx26 mpg = 338miles per tank. 338 times 15 full fillups equals 5070 miles.

31.2 x 15=468 free miles for using royal purple, thats 1.5 tanks of gas free!2.50pg x 19.5 gallons of gas = 48.75 dollars saved.

I have also seen countless dyno runs of before and after oil changes(we used a mustang dynamometer, and ALWAYS saw an increase in power. this includes Power strokes to e36 m3's to Supercharged Pontiac GXp's to mustangs and camaros. I however never did a before and after, because frankly my car had 196000 niles on it, and i was more concerned about keeping it alive and getting good mpg then how much horsepower it made.

p.s. I hope it doesnt sound like Im arguing, Im not, just lending Facts.

1)Royal Purple uses group 4 stock, man, since when did royal purple ever think of using group 2 or three stock. Royal Purple is definitely a higher end product than Mobil One, as current prices are around 6.40 per quart.

2)Redline charges something crazy like 7.50+ right? Dont get me wrong, i dont penny pinch on oil, but most people cant afford to spend that kinda dough every 3k miles. I can though!

3)Sport did a article on oils and (world renowned) cosworth said, the additive package is more important these days than most people realize. A group 2 oil with the right additives can be better than a group 4 stock, with not the right mix of additives.

4)I am loving this thread, and feel free to prove me wrong, you can even check out http://www.royalpurple.com/techi/whyrpi.html for more info.

5)Unlike most companies, RP only makes synthethic. Also, I believe Redline uses group four/five also.

6)I remember something about offsetting the amount of esther, estherglycerin somehing blah blah blah (some big word and dont have the mag near me) from group 5 PAO oils, by incorporating group 4.

1) not True. For one, all companies that use expensive base stocks make a bid deal about it on their websites, whereas on RP's website, you hear nothing concrete at all and every sentence is evasive on this subject.

In addition, the MSDS clearly shows, "synthetic additives with isoparifinic diluent" more double talk"Iso parrifinic is Group 3 (n some argue you call group 2+ this also), so what do we have here?

http://www.doc.state.nc.us/epr...l.pdfSo its at best a Blend, and possibly ( and this sounds more likely this this is what they actually state) a sub grou 3 plus an addtive thats "synthetic"

2) Yes RL charges around $8 . Its a group 5 oil with a polyol base stock which costs money to make.Oxidation resitance is extreme tho.For some this would make it not worth it but nonetheless its a legitimate advantage over even Mobil1/AMSOIL and some will pay premium for it ( Think Summer autoX with a Turbo Engine)

3) This is true for many ( not all) applications)

4) more Evasiness talk, in this link

5)RP as established in 1) does not make all synthetics and if you read their literature carefully, you will find that they avoid claiming it as well.RL is a group 5

6) Group 5 and 4 addtives won't mix.

You will never find an oil formulation that attempts to dissolve dilute or even mix group 4 with 5. Even the additives you need for each group are different and a group 4 additive pack, would never be used with a group 5 oil or vice versa

350 is going great, (well except for one thing)

Drives better than ever. except needs new bumber because uhm, me and my Moderator Ryan were practicing for autoX, on an empty lot and uhm I was following him real close and uhm, now I need a new bumper and he a new rear bumper..

But other than that ..

Went back to 7 psi pulley.just got a Nismo Clutch and Nismo Flywheel.

Can feel the difference too from the flywheel.

Car just turned 58,000 miles in 18 months of ownership...

Hows the S14?

Give me a hug you son of a *****! But make it a black guy type of hug where only our hands pat each other's backs, not the weird white people hugs where its all mushy and gay.

Its a better chocie than 5w-30 but the 10w-40 Durrablend or for summer the 20w-50 will be a better choice for a Turbo in SUmmer especially an aftermarket one.

I am not a huge fan of Mobil1 in their 30 weights either, especially for Turbo applications..(0w-30,5w-30,10w-30) as they come out pretty much of the thin side of their specs .

KA-T as a minimum run Durablend 10w-40.Some examples of Great choices fvor that appluication are Mobil1 15w-50 or Redline 10w-40.

Can we get an update on the current situation of oils? Or at least a few suggestions. To be more specific, I am trying to decide what oil to use in my 91 stock 240 with 160k miles. I live in new jersey so the summers can get hot and the winters have been relatively mild. So far, I have tried a few different weights of Mobil1 and changing it every 3k. While you're at it, what about transmition oil?

EDIT: I checked my oil today. It's at 3k miles of this cycle and it's Mobil1 15w50. It's right bellow the low mark and pretty dark.

Hard to formulate a conclusion here

Leaning towards MB1 0w 40 for the SR

then again the valvoline sounds good as well>

we'll see

Alright question. I am going to need to do an oil change soon and i want to try royal purple. In Arizona it gets 50-70 at night and 85-100 during the day.

Winter will come soon and it will sometimes be 20-60 at night and 70-90 during the day.

With such extremities, what grade and weight would you recommend?

Royal purple has SAE 30 - 50 and 5w20 - 20W50. This is going to be for my 05' impreza RS

http://www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/rpmoa.html

I kept reading through the posts, and saw you recommended 0w-40 for a stock 89 240sx.

link for info.
