Only way I would do it is if I could get stationed at Misawa ;) I have a buddy in the Navy there and he loves it. Espcially since he bought an R32 GTR :(

this isnt really a last resort. i've been thinking about the military since 16. I work as a computer and printer tech and get paid pretty well. But I don't know, I still keep thinking about the military. So I'm going to go for it.

I am in the air force I live on base don't do Combat Camera cause your butt will be in a Iraq like every 4 to 5 months for 3 months at a time.JAPAN IS SOOOO SWEETTTT!!In japan you would have to buy a car there but you could prolly get a cheap GT-R off of someone leaving Japan. (GT-R is no big deally in Japan). You can asked to be stationed somewhere but if you get picked or not is another story.

I hope this helps.

I have been in 8 years live on base like i said before and Drive a 350Z 2003 and a V6 Altima 2003.

He also gets combat and active duty pay increases. Apparently, he is SERIOUSLY banking it over there. His GTR cost him $12000, and with his resigning bonus he was able to buy the car and get it to about 450hp. Lucky bastard:(

I say, go reserves to fill that military lust o' yours... that way, u get to keep your decent job & play warrior on the weekends.<shrugs> plus i think the age limit to enter that is 35, so u have more time to think about it/ get into shape (which I'm planning to do as well). I don't mind learning how to survive & to kill as well...

I will be leaving for the AF soon, signed the paper a few months ago, dont know what I want to do though. My recruiter tells me pararescue is a kickass job, saving lives, I would love to do it, skydiving gets me alittle nervous though, HALO jumps at night(:help). Twlv, combat camera, is that the same as combat controller? I leave in Oct, I wish it was sooner, but thats what I was stuck with.

AF is a great decision, any military branch is a good decision.

I went into the AF straight outta HS and now have a great job working for Boeing Satellite Systems. I did electronic and mechanical repair/upgrades for the Minute Man 3 ICBM's. I was stationed in Great falls MT after training (for almost half my enlistment) in TX and CA. If you get a GARAUNTEED JOB, not a garaunteed job field, then it will most likely be a great experience and set you off on the right foot for life afterwards. the Retirement program is not at all worth it compared to the good-ole' days but not too bad either. I suggest getting in and getting training and experience in the field you like, and then getting out and working in the private sector IF you have the intelligence/drive to do so.

My lil sis just got out after 6 years. She was a weather forecaaster (SSGT E5 paygrade) and now she works for Wal Mart 'cuz she is too complacent to leave the town where she lives t otry elsewhere.

Bottom line, the AF treats you better, with -on the average- better jobs and living conditions. I had my own room straight out of training and had time for a second job. If you get a job with "flight status" then you'll travel more than without. Only about 3% of the AF is on flight status though so most stay put a good % of the time unless you request a move. GREAT MOVE!!

pararescue very badass. think Navy Seals with EMT licenses.

it's the longest and hardest of any SOCOM group training apparently.

the SEALs get put in more places, but the Air Force are the guys that go in and get downed pilots and stuff like that. They were crucial in getting the prisoners in Iraq that Jessica Lynch was with outta there.

hardcore.

Well what if you suck at everything like me? What jobs are there for those types of people? And if I join the AFROTC at my university, how long will it take for me to finish AFROTC? I don't really get the whole ROTC thing except when you get out you get to be an officer of some sort.

I'm interested b/c of that stupid draft thing they're gonna put into Congress.

you get to take a test upon entering basic or something along those lines to see just what you don't suck at.

80% of people who do combat controller fail it is a very tough job it is like navy seal type deal. Combat Camera is just a CAMERA guy in the air force.

Right, so random tidbit:

My dad was ROTC in college (electrical engineering) for the Air Force. He wanted to fly F16s, but ended up with F15s (better, IMO). Anyways, he was already married, so he didn't get that benefit. However, he ended up living in Amersfoort, Netherlands (near Amsterdam), and in New Mexico, Oklahoma for a while, couple other places for brief stints.

They had my older brother in Amersfoort (I can't remember the name of the base at the moment), and me in New Mexico. In Alamogordo, on white sands (yep, I was born on white sands, woo woo!).

He had a lot of fun in the AF. He ended up with Delta and we've done great til the past couple years. Times have gotten a little rough, as well all know, for large carriers. All the same, it's a great living. Flight privileges are the shiat.

So, AF is a great experience and a great way to a wonderful job thereafter. No matter what profession, they'll see AF and you'll automatically get major points.

Go for it, those of you who are looking into it. If you really want to it's a great way to go!

Local recruiter (check the phone book) but he will make it sound soooo good to you just to get you in better off asking me or someone who doesn't benifit from you joining.

In ROTC (any branch) they teach you the nasics of drill (marching), the command structure of the military branch thye are affiliated with (AF, ARMY etc) meaning, what rank is higher than the next.. and who is the leade rof that bracnh (under the prez) and various tidbits you'll need to know. It helps you get a leg-up on things and makes the transition into military life easier. It is HIGHLY recommended that if yo u are interested in the military that you join th ROTC if you're in college and teh JROTC if in HS. I was in AFJROTC in HS and got many good perks from it. I started out 2 pay grades higher than those who did not do JROTC, I already knew most of the stuff they teach you in basic so it was not hard at all.
