According to a Road & Track test, it’s 155mph. I hope you reserve that speed to the track only.

Lucky you, open it up,had mine up to 120mph and you can't feel it.

I would love to get the car on the track and just open it up for the fun of it and to be safe.

From what I understand there is something in the computer that limits it to 155. Read this thread about Computer tuning that I believe removes the limitation. zerothread/318559

Like I suggested before, other than track use in this country, it would be quite irrational to want to go that fast. BTW, the G37 and G37 Journey come with V tires that are rated up to 149mph. So at 155 a blow out may reduce your speed to a one-time 6 feet under.

The Sport model has W tires rated up to 168mph, so wear a helmet and take a chance.

I just saw a special on the Autobahn. The guy took a film crew on a 213 mph trip down the road in a RUF Porsche. This was at night because apparently, during the day, it suffers from congestion and has speed limits.

I think speed rated tires are rated for sustained speeds (50 minutes or more) of 149 or whatever the rating is.

Well keep in mind that its 155 here in the states, but are you talking about an American Version of the G37 or the Japanese version of it, I think you were from Australia right if I am not mistaken, might be different over there..

I'll Second the vote to by pass that. With 330HP the car should be good for 165 or 170MPH depending on conditions. RE: the high speed blowout! concern Car and Driver or Motor trend ran an article about a blowout they had at 200+ in a Lingenhelter vette on the autobahn. Summary: Centripital acceleration keeps the tire expanded initially the big problems occur when decelerating because the tread surface collapses more when hitting irregularities in the road surface> Result the tire begins deteriorating at about 100MPH Basically the tire destroyed the front quarter panel, but there was no loss of control in the straight line.

165-170? IMHO unless you’re a professional race car driver on a suitable track, you’ve got to be nuts to drive your G37 that fast.

I agree with Magellan, unless you have been trained at high speed driving, that is plain crazy. However it is legal, in Nevada...on a certain highway, on a certain day, under the auspices of, and under control of, a governing body.

Here is your chance to see what your G will really do. A couple guys in the G35 forum have reported that they have buried their 160 speedo, (at a track I hope). No doubt the 37 will do so too.

If you've got some time, and a few dollars, why not run the Silver State. There are classes with "do not exceed" speeds, (100, 115, etc. etc.) and an unlimited class. I think the record speed for the 90 mile course was something over 200MPH by a 19 year old guy named Gottleib in a modified Camaro. (May have been broken by now).

Click the above link and enjoy.

I heard of a guy who was "comfortable” playing Russian roulette. After he blew his brains out it was no longer so.

I did not mean to endorse those speeds for street driving.

You would probably need an oval or a really long straight away track. ALMS GT1 and GT2 cars have to really push to hit 160 or 170 on the straight at Laguna Seca and they are running more horsepower.

I have spent more than a few days on the track.

Alot depends on how stable the car feels at speed. Rode in a Carrera GT as a Passenger at 155. It felt like 70 aside from the acceleration and braking.

Well, OK then. Now you will be wearing a helmet and other protective gear at the track, right?

Well I had my '01 Eclipse GT up to 155 on the 8 between San Diego and Phoenix, I don't know how many of you have been on that highway but as you come out of the mountains you have some very long, flat, straight stretches. It was quite the rush let me tell you. I can't wait to take my G37 out there when I get back from Iraq and pick it up from the dealer.

I had mine up to approximately 158mph. I assume there is a cutoff. Have you heard anything about removing the restriction that the car must not be moving to enter an address into the NAV?

I had the nav/video hack done by a company here is South Florida but they didn't tell me what they did. I know it involves two separate things for the video. The sensor on the handbrake has to be removed and the sensor that lets the car know it is moving has to be bypassed. They do it on a toggle so you can switch it off, input the navigation and then switch it on so the nav can take you to the destination.

Be careful next time. the CHP is more tricky now. They time the time it takes you between two prominent landmarks from a mile or two behind you. Then they take that time and compare it to the time driving the speed limit. Then they move in for the kill. They don't bother trying to get in your blindspot anymore. Watch your 6 very carefully. Tickets of 100+ get you a free stay in the can.

Thanks for serving (USMC I assume).

I think you wasted your money. Voice recognition is good enough on the G37 that you can input destinations faster than pushing all those buttons while trying to drive and it’s safer too. Of course you lose the music box album search and second pages on the traffic alert detail screen, but I’d rather keep my eyes on the road.

Can you picture anyone going at speeds mentioned in this thread (140+) while fiddling with buttons on the nav screen? The last thing you’ll ever remember is that the driver’s air bag works!

Wow, thats very ingenious of them. To hold up at all they would have to have an actual number on a gun though wouldn't they? I would think any traffic lawyer worth his salt would be able to talk someone out of that.

yep, USMC, its my 2nd tour over here. That re-enlistment bonus is helping pay for the new G

Is that a new revision to the law? I would love to see the specific California vehical code for that. Last I knew it was an automatic dismissal of a speeding citation in California if you could prove that law enforcement used a "timing device"... ie a standard clock, stopwatch etc. In other words, they either have to use a calibrated speed measuring device such as radar, or trail you a given distance and determine your speed based on their speed calibrated speedometer. At least that's the way the law read a few years ago. I'll be the first to conceed it could have changed though.

In any event, 150something out on that desolate stretch of land for any sustained period of time is asking for it... if not the ticket, bigger trouble, like the kind that comes with a blow-out and loss of control. You're coming home from Iraq safe, no use in dying here for a quick thrill.
Believe me, I understand the dangers associated with the action It not something I do on a regular basis by any means I can assure you. While I do like to press the envelope while driving that was the first time I had driven at that speed, although I have spent quite a bit of time above the 100mph mark in my now 11 year driving career. That said, you only live once and speed is definitely one of my passions
