I never understood why people in the US build cars with tons and tons of great performance parts, but just let the car sit on a carpet in a convention center.

Seems like over in Japan, they build a car that looks great at the show and also beats the **** out of the competition at the track.

No doubt, there is nothing cooler than walking into a car show and seeing a fast car with someone else's paint on the quarter panels, and burnt rubber sticking the the rear valances.

I dont care how many expensive parts you put on a car, its not fast unless it can prove itself on track.

Haha, reading this I couldn't help but to chuckle. I expect better out of the both of yas. Either way, there are only a hand full of good looking rattle can flat jobs out there. That WRX is wearing satin BASF paint which costs just as much as a show quality gloss job.

I think for the most part, people lost sight of why we go flat. It's defiantly not a fashion statement. It's a function over form deal. Why spend thousands of dollars on a paint job, when the car is going to be at the track, or just getting beat on in general. Sure, I want to have a "Nice" looking 240, but that one will be babied, and what's the point of having it if I'm just going to "Cruise" in it. "Hey look everybody, I own a 240! Yay me!" haha. If Hyundai or Kia made an economical RWD hatch similar to the 240 as far as layout, I would be all over it.

I liked my flat black at first. I didn't see the point in painting it real nice cause I planned on beating the crap out of it at the track. Now that I've gotten better i think it's time for a paint job.

In 2003 I painted my Audi flat black. The body was wrecked, so I fixed it for cheap. I did it for one other reason, because back then it hadnt "been done", and it wasn't the cool thing to do yet. It was a bug that bit me, and my S14 is my third flat black car.
