I ran a Magnefine backwards for a short period of time due to my own stupid mistake. See a Magnefine I unscrewed after 13k miles of use on my Pathfinder here. I'd highly recommend a Magnefine for any conventional automatic transmission (not a CVT) and hydraulic power steering system.

As usual the quality isn't the best. The hardest part about this is figuring out which line is the inlet/outlet.

Outlet from trans is the hard line that has no tee built in it. The band on the hose (where it bolts to the fan shroud bracket) is red.
The hose with the yellow band is the trans cooler line return.
The tees in the system were simply to allow the dual rad coolers in 94-96.
I installed a derale spin on trans filter, I verified the outlet line by starting engine with both hoses disconnected at the hard lines under ps pump.
I also installed external cooler for trans and bypassed both factory coolers.
I will monitor trans Temps once I get a temp gauge for the trans....might end up reusing ONE of the factory coolers again but will need a new radiator, as my original factory coolers are very corroded.
If I do that I will plumb in the driver side cooler in series with the external cooler.
My filter plumbing will be unchanged.
My setup has outlet from trans going to inlet of filter then outlet from filter to inlet of external cooler, outlet of external cooler to return hard line to trans.
The extra tee I simply capped off with a bolt in the hose and double clamps.

Once I get a new radiator the routing will be as follows:
Outlet of trans to inlet of filter,
Filter outlet to rad cooler inlet on driver side
Rad cooler outlet to external cooler inlet
External cooler outlet to trans return.
