Took a trip down to Dallas to see Mr. Joel Zimmerman AKA Deadmau5, of whom I'm a ridiculous fan, and happened to build a Mau5head before hand and snap a few pics. He put on a f*** awesomely earsplitting show and was cool enough to sign my mau5head after. If he's coming ANYWHERE near you I HIGHLY recommend you go see the show. If not for the music, for the girls.

Nice, I saw him in Cochella 2010 and he was awesome. Did he have the head that changes to various colors?

Yup. It did all kinds of crazy stuff. It matched up to the crazy cube thing he had on stage that did all kinds of crazy stuff. My favorite was when for Moar Ghosts 'n Stuff when the intro talks his mau5head talked right along. Way too sick.

Nice.

I was in Vegas a few weeks back and he did a surprise set at Marquee in the Cosmopolitan the day AFTER I left. My buddy is one of the head promoters there, I cant even imagine how epic it would have been.

In Vegas? Epicness of that level cannot be comprehended!

Good stuff Scott! Definitely check it out. I think his approach to the whole House, Electronic, yadda yadda Genre is new and fresh.

What did you use to make the mau5head?

It's actually really dark. DARK. It's a real-life account of a holocaust survivor using animals to represent different groups of people (mice represent Jews, cats Germans, etc.).

Yikes I guess I shouldn't joke about that. The mau5Head is made of a 14 inch acrylic light post globe. Spec'ing everything out was actually kinda challlenging. I used my calculator a lot surprisingly. A lot of the geometry can be derived just based on the dimensions of the globe. For the lighting I used EL Wire with a Triac for switching and an arduino:

Image

I set up a circuit that listens to music levels, calibrates an electret based of the loudness, then switches the Triac to flash the EL Wire to the highs of the music (IE the bass for my purposes) Deadmau5 loved the idea and seemed to be shocked that I spent so much time on it when you can buy things that do the same thing. To that I said but where's the fun in that? He high fived me.

Was it hot as a motha in there? I thought I was going to die in there. I was soaked in sweat by the end of the night (4:30AM  )

That's friggin' awesome. Every time I read about something someone's done with an Arduino, it makes me wish I could remember half of what I learned in my electronics classes.

Maybe I should buy one and use it as a means to remember.

Please do! It's a sensory overload. I wish I could do a better job of articulating the experience but it was way too visceral to put into words. Go!

That's exactly why I bought mine and it's done just that. I burned up one but that served as a reminder of Ohm's Law :chuckle: Good thing is they're easy to replace.

Really good series. At least that's what I thought when I finished reading it for the fifth or so time. My synagogue had like three copies of the entire series in the library.

It really was not bad at all considering it was outdoors and Halloween weekend. Did you get to catch EDC when it was in Texas? I missed it this year but refuse to next year.

I'll have to stop by the library and see if they have them!

Yup I was there acting a damn fool! It's soo much fun the state fairgrounds are PERFECT for that kinda thing. If you do decide to go, HIT ME UP I'm definitely down to kick it. I almost want to hit Las Vegas and potentially Ibiza. :ohno:

Nothing better although I can't listen to him and run haha. Messes up my pace badly. The show was ridiculously awesome. Everyone was mellow (probably from acid, I got asked for tabs like 30 times) and really diggin the mau5head before and was hyped all during the show, not just for the drops.

I have been pretty good man! Thanks for asking! I've been trying to hurry up and finish school so my coursework is prohibitive of a lot of post whoring like I used to but I've been trying to make a comeback. I miss the community here and I miss having an S chassis. I need to pick one up and get back in the swing of things! How about you?

Eh, I got out of the fast street car game after selling my S14. Decided to go big boy racing. Now I dump all my money/time into that. So lifes good. :chuckle:

One day there needs to be a old school post whore/learned'd crew reunion.
