GRNMACHINE wrote:Update, with the Path out of commision until I replace calipers I figured it was a good time to try this mod. I already have the Jim Wolf intake. Removing the "resonator" is only 3 10mm bolts. I didnt have to jack up the vehicle or remove wheel although that would have made it easier to be sure. There is 1 bracket I had to loosen that helps "hold" the bumper. Had to loosen it to pull the tubing down. Havent had a chance to test out the improvement or reported gas mileage unimprovement. In theory, this looks as close to a "Ram Air" setup as possible. I am expecting at least .001 extra horses and a 1/4 mile time of at least 35-40 seconds. Only thing I am curious about is the intake temp sensor. What is it really for? I am going to zip tie/Innovazn "zap strap " it to something and hope for the best. The additional weight loss of about 19 oz of worthless plastic should net some additional gains as well. And thanks Nissan, for putting out a V6 with 171 horses! Mustangs, look out now ( I wont be as far and indistinct in the rear view mirror as previously.....)
my asian eyes deceive me... i was unable to figure out where this resonator was : / picture with red circle please?

Thanks for additional Pwnin!! Will see how close I can get the sensor to intake etc.

Inno, I am still living in the 90's, havent posted pics in the forum yet. I will try to take some pics. The resonator is already out, as stated it is located in the front drivers side wheel well area. You cant see it without removing the wheel well trim. You can see the tube located underneath the air filter housing. I will try to get some pics if possible. I am sure guys here have pics also.

Photobucket is my friend. I will try to get some pics up tonite. Inno, the inner fender liner closest to the front bumper is the one that needs to be removed. you will then have a clear view of the resonator. 3 10 mm bolts hold the resonator in place. I believe the inner fender liner has 3 screws at the bottom of the bumper, 1 in the wheel well, and 3 or so push pins. It really is easy once you see them all.

Was able to get some plastic gutter extension mounted, still need to figure out how to keep it connected to the small plastic grill next to the fog light. Also trying to figure out how to connect the IAT sensor inside the hose.

It's not of the utmost importance if you can't get the IAT sensor on the intake tube, as long as you can get it in the area of the filter then you will probably be fine. If your engine runs a little rough and/or you get a DTC for the IAT sensor then you know what the problem is. I think it's somewhat rare to get a DTC for the IAT sensor unless you keep it in the fender well or somewhere else really far away from the filter and intake tube.

just do what i did, its a hack job but it works till i get the tubes, put a zap strap through the fender up into the egine bay and loop it around the IAT sensor so it literally hangs next to the intake box. let it hang, nothings going to happen

not sure where that statement came from. alexrex, are ya drunk again??

hehe

its always better to do stuff y ourself... then you know its done right, whereas a mechanic just wants to get it done as fast as possible and get your car out of his shop. mechanics dont take their sweet time to do things like measure torque of bolts, or clean things up, or anything like that.

Thanks done, aside from putting the inner fender well trim in and fabbing up the black plastic piece next to the foglight. I ordered a spare and plan on cutting out the lines and putting in some kind of mesh.

The Path seems to be idling much lower and more "normal" than ever but seems to have lost some of its "power". It seems to kick into second too soon. I plan to disco the negative batt cable for an hour and see if it relearns itself.

Still workin on fastening the the "gutter tube" to the grille next to the foglight. Anyone running this kind of setup ever get water into the filter area? I havent driven the Path much at all, and not much in rain, when I pulled the tube down, water was in it. Not sure how big of a deal this is? Anyone have any ideas?

Finished I think. Used a dryer vent with an opening the same as the flex tube. I cut it down with a dremel so it would fit behind the grille next to the foglight. I connected the dryer "coupler" to the grille with stainless bolts. I screwed the dryer "coupler" to the flex tube with gutter screws. Didnt use any zip ties or "zap straps" for u Great White North dudes. It seems to be working decently on the ole butt dyno. Total cost under $40 and total time-way way too long. I like this engine alot but it is a real dog in acceleration. Sounds decent though with Jimbo Pop Charger and Magnaflow exhuast--absolutely non ricer sounding. If anyone wants some pics let me know. I took them at a really high resolution so they are rather large to post here. Thanks Fueler for the idea.

GRNMACHINE: If you still have those pics i'd love to see them!

If you dont wanna post 'em here you can e-mail them to [email protected]

Just let me know if/when you email them as I dont check that email often.

Also, are you still running that custom spectre parts intake?

Mr Burgundy,
Yes indeed, sent you an email. Let me know if you need more pics, they are too big to post here. Still running it and still digging it. Wouldnt doubt my my HP gains of stock 171 to at least 171.5. No dyno to prove it though... In all seriousness, feels quicker to me, especially when merging into traffic-doesnt seem to have that lag it used to have. Any gains I can get on this engine are very welcome. Spectre products have been great in my opinion and use.
Happy New Year

Very cool - thank you very much.

With the resonator removed theres a lot of room behind the inner fender; anyone ever though about moving the filter down here?

After all, the whole idea of a cold air intake is relocating the filter away from the hot engine bay right?

Thoughts? Suggestions?
